I took my mom who was visiting me to this restaurant based on some positive Dim Sum reviews on this website. I found out after driving 45min, they only serve dim sum during weekends!!! We were so hungry and disappointed at that point ordered food from their lunch menu. Food turned out simply awful. I swore myself never trust reviews completely because you never know its origin. the decor and presentation needs some work. the service was nice. i was hoping to hear more of my people's language, but i suppose if more than half your staff is non-cantonese/non-chinese that's not gonna happen. the food was below average. very greasy (more so than at other dim sum places) and things looked kinda funny which i think affected the taste. the cha sui bao (steamed white bread with chinese BBQ pork) filling was not the correct color... or taste. the sui mai was dry, flavorless, and hard. i remember enjoying the lo bak go (daikon root with chinese sausage and pork pan fried) b/c it tasted like my mom's. although the presentation again, not so great. messy look. it would be very exciting if this place cleaned up a little and became a premier dim sum jax hang out. but until then, you can find me at bamboo creek in tinseltown. let's go china! This place was an amazing find. I have lived in Hong Kong and San Francisco for several years, and have been searching for a Dim Sum place in Jacksonville ever since I moved here 4 months ago. This is the only place I have found that is worth mentioning. They have a 24-item+ Dim Sum menu and serve it by order all day. The food is great. The service was prompt and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. \r \r They are talking about bringing the Dim Sum around by cart, but probably can't do it until they have the demand. So please check this place out! The more people that show up - the more items they will be able to add, and the longer they will be able to serve by cart. If you appreciate authentic, quality, Hong Kong-style food - then you need to try this place out ASAP!!! \r \r I live about 30 minutes away on the other side of the river, but still intend to go there every weekend. I am a big fan of chinese food. Good CHinese Food that is. Coming from New England, where in my opinion you can find some of the BEST chinese food, I have to say that Silver Star is excellent! Since my hometown chinese restaurant in Georgia closed down, It has been real hard to find a decent NON MEGA CHINESE BUFFET style restaurant. I HATE them MEGA CHINESE BUFFETS. There is no qulaity put into the food. Not the case at Silver Star. Silver Star is a sit down order off the menu restaurant. There was a particular item I enjoy that wasn't on the menu and I made the comment to the waitress about it. It wasn't a big deal to me, and I ordered something else. She came back and told me that Jack, the owner would make it for me if I wanted it, even though it wasn't on the menu. Now thats what I call service. He didn't have to do that, but he did, to make his customer happy. I applaud him for that, and the dish was excellent too! The staff is very friendly, the drinks are cold, and the food always came out hot. I highly reccomend Jack's food at Silver Star Chinese Restaurant! Even though it is a 45 minute drive from my house, so far it is my Chinese Restaurant of choice. And pricing is very resonable with great portions, and PLENTY of parking!! Pros: EXCELLENT FOOD!
