Sidney Street Cafe is delicious! 9/17/2009

Delicious food, just loved their Wasabi Steak...yum yum yum. Great service, wonderful warm atmosphere. And their wine offering was always great. Highly recommend! more

Skip the bar; straight to dinner 2/20/2009

My husband and I read this was to be one of the most romantic restaraunts in St. Louis, I did not find it romantic. However, the excellent service made up for it! We decided to have a cocktail at the bar before dinner and were treated like we didn't belong by the bartender. She talked down to us with the few words she did share. Fortunately, our server Suzanne (city search isn't letting me use her shortened name) made up for the horrible first impression. She had outstanding knowledge of the menu and treated us like we were regulars. She made an excellent reccommendation for the lobster turnovers! The Tuscan Sea Bass was outstanding as well! I would reccommend this restaraunt, but not if you're looking for an after dinner drink at the bar and the lack of personality behind it. Pros: Interesting menu options! Great service Cons: Bad first impression more

Good Food and Wine 11/18/2008

When I saw the menu, the wine list and the professional and attentive staff. The food was VERY good. I had all appetizers for dinner -- soup and southern rolls and veal ravioli. They were imaginative and tasty. The wine was scrumptious. It was a well-thought-out Oregon Pinor Noir that really complemented the food nicely. more

NOT romantic 6/9/2008

Excellent food. First class service. Friendly service. NOT romantic. I went to this restaurant ONLY because it was billed as romantic. Not so. Not in any manner. No way. I have no idea who thinks that a table with a candle that was so smoky it had to be blown out immediatly, harsh lighting and no private tables could be considered romantic but I'm not one of them. If you are looking for exceptional food and great service and don't mind pricey, this is your place. If you are looking for romantic, keep on looking. Pros: Food Cons: NOT romantic more

3RD times a charm! 5/26/2008

Being a newbie to st.louis and not food lol. I needed a great place to entertain. a girlfriend mentioned this site so i checked it out and sidney street looked like the best place to entertain my client before closing.with all the great reviews how could they be wrong. WELL LET ME TELL YOU ! seabass overcooked, steak overcooked and what langostino was there may or may not have been you know !?server was great and can not be held resposible.and although mistakes happen its sad it had to be me at the time. after talking to my friend she convinced me to give it another shot and it was amazing!! she was right my bass, moist and delicious the reviews were right after all. My client and I returned only to be dissapointed yet again sorry sidney street but I won't be wasting my time or money on such inconsistant nonsense. Pros: service Cons: inconsistant more

Beignets to melt in your mouth!! 5/24/2008

This is the place to go if you want great service and excellent cuisine. We were surprised by the small size of the restaurant, and would definitely recommend reservations - especially on the weekend or for a group. The menu is imaginative and mouthwatering, the wait staff pleasant and engaging...as well as knowledgeable on pairing food with wines, etc. The hot from the oven beignets were an absolute dream, a MUST for any traveler or seasoned St Louisan alike. You will crave the food again and again...we talked about it all the way home!! Pros: GREAT Ambience, melt in your mouth beignets, imcredible shrimp, impecable wait staff! Cons: Ordering from the mini-chalkboard and perhaps forgetting the waiter's descriptions more

Our new favorite! 4/9/2008

My husband took me here for my birthday last night. The service was excellent, as well as the food. I had the sea bass. You must try it. It's the best I've ever had! My husbad had a filet stuffed with langastino's. It was wonderful. From appetizer to dessert, you won't be dissapointed! Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Wonderful Appitizers 5/15/2007

My sister-in-law introduced me to the wonderful food found at Sidney Street Cafe. Even though I live in California I try to make one visit there every time I am in St. Louis. When folks ask me what my favorite restaurant is I tell them it is located in another state. Then I show them the website and my mouth starts to water. Never dissapointed. Cons: For me, its because they don't have on in California more

Quite simply, the best restaurant in STL 11/2/2006

I really do mean that. You may find restaurants with better entrees on a given night, a more extensive menu, a wonderful patio for a summer evening, etc. But, you won't find a more consistently excellent restaurant in St. Louis. Other restaurants vary visit to visit, but Sidney Street never disappoints. It's elegant, unpretentious, romantic, cozy, and both the food and the service are second-to none. Better still, it doesn't carry the pricetag of a Tony's or An American Place. Pros: Everything Cons: Parking, perhaps? more

Best in St. Louis 6/3/2006

My family has been going to Sidney Street for the past 18 years and generally have had the same waiter (by request) during the entire time. All special occasions have been spent here. It is without a doubt the best of the best in the area. My daughters are now married and spend their anniversaries here. Warm, romantic atmosphere, with delicious food and ecellent service. Their escargot can't be beat!!! Great place to bring out of town company...a plade they will remember and return to on their next trip to STL. Pros: Great Food, Excellent Service, Ambience Cons: Parking limited more

Absolutely Wonderful 2/15/2006

I have now been to this restaurant two times - both of which were fully enjoyable. Everything I've tried (and the company I was with) has been delicious. The serving sizes are extremely delicious. The wait staff provides excellent recommendations and seems knowledgeable. Great wine selections. Option for an individual appetizer sampler (mostly seafood, but if you ask you can get a non-seafood option instead). Many choices for your meal - it's hard for me to decide because everything sounds so good. Great presentation of the food. I think this restaurant is worth the wait (will need to make reservations) and the price. I will continue to go back again and again. Only negative - it was extremely cold in the restaurant when I was there. Pros: selection, service, quality Cons: reservation wait more

Raves 6/6/2004

This is the place! Sure it's a bit pricey, but between the wonderful service and the best food I've experienced in St. Louis - still a bargain. The server was not only knowledgeable about the menu - but had a great sense of humor and really added to the experience. All the entrees tried were exquisite and the desserts were even better. Pros: great service, amazing food Cons: , decor is a bit sedate, crowd lacks diversity more

Best in St. Louis 5/5/2003

This is my favorite restaurant in St. Louis. The service is excellent, the food delicious, and the atmosphere romantic. I been going to Sidney Street for well over 12 years and have had a great experience every time. Pros: service, food, atmosphere Cons: reservations required more

Best in Town 4/18/2003

The menu selection, food quality, service and ambiance combine to make this the best dining experience in St. Louis. The consistency of quality is unbelievable. more

One of St. Louis' Best 2/11/2003

One of the best restaurants in St. Louis. Every time I have dined here the evening has been perfect. A great combination of food, service and atmosphere. more

very interesting. I saw notta 1/12/2003

The wife and my favorite place for special occasion. The atmosphere and ambience are incredible. You see all types of people from all walks of life. Folks in tuxedos to cutoffs (not necessarily recommended) as it's a nice place to eat. Pricey but by comparison not bad for what you get. Very interesting menu with everchanging items but they will bring back the favs if you ask. Pros: excellent chef, the bread, fun place Cons: prices, wine list more

st. louis ambiance 12/30/2002

a true st. louis experience. dark, wooded, excellent food. the restaurant is kind of hard to find and is deep in the city. Pros: ambiance, food, service Cons: location more

Romance in the Air 10/18/2002

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary, as we do every year, at Sidney Street Cafe. There is not a more romantic place to dine in this city. The setting and ambiance are beautiful and inviting--cozy tables, dark and candle-lit, with hardwood floors and brick walls. The food is more amazing, every time you visit. The chalkboard menu is intriguing and the waitstaff is as professional and accomodating as they come. What a wonderful, inviting, comfortable, sensual place to be romantic. We visit the cozy bar for an after dinner cocktail and some dessert--anticipating what will come later!! Absoultely, perfectly romantic! Pros: Food!!, Atmosphere/Ambiance, Service Cons: Reservations!!, Can't be spontaneous,, and just drop in more

  • Sidney Street Cafe is located in a century-old storefront building in St. Louis s historic Benton Park neighborhood. Run by Chef/Owner Kevin Nashan along with his wife Mina and his brother Chris, the restaurant is proud to be a neighborhood staple while also serving as a special destination for diners from all over the world. The New American cuisine is inspired by a melting pot of influences including Kevin s Spanish heritage, the New Mexican flavors of his childhood in Santa Fe, his love for Midwest and Southern ingredients, and his classic French training. The casually elegant dining room is highlighted by exposed brick walls, rich hardwood floors, and an antique bar where guests can enjoy cocktails, wine, and the restaurant s complete dining experience.
