Fantastic Middle Eastern cuisine 2/27/2010

LOVE this place! The chicken shawerma is downright addictive. The flavor in these dishes (I've also tried the hummus and falafel) is intoxicating. Moreover, the prices can't be beat. This is authentic Middle Eastern cuisine at its best. The owner is very friendly and personable. The most important thing I noticed is how clean and sanitary he keeps his kitchen. Bravo, Shish Kabob Grill! Pros: What's not to rave about? Cons: Service can be hit or miss more

Absolutely the BEST gyros in Denver 8/9/2009

I LOVE this restaurant! I am a repeat customer on their delicious Gyros and Hummus. However, I am sure everything else there tastes wonderful too. The family who owns it is so sweet and kind, they remember me everytime I come in. Thats all I have to say! I go here a couple times every week and will continue to do so! Thank you shish kebob grill! Pros: Gyros! And the friendly family who owns it Cons: zip, zero, zilch! more

Great Food 5/31/2009

Although the food was out of this world the service really ruined my experience. I've had so many friends talk this place up that I was thoroughly excited. When I walked in i expected a ""warm welcome"" as I knew it was family owned. Instead, I was given a look like I was inconveniencing the young guy because he had to get up off his stool. He then proceeded to be curt and rude while taking my order until his friend came threw the door. At this point I pretty much no longer existed, and taking the remainder of my order clearly became second priority. With service i've come to expect from most family owned restaurants in the area, Shish Kabob has been downgraded, in my book, from 5 stars to 3. All 3 for the food alone. Pros: Great Gyro Cons: Rude help more

I've found the best Middle Eastern restaurant in Denver right here!! 2/27/2009

Having grown up on homemade Middle Eastern food, this is the best I have had in Denver... The business is family owned and they are warm, welcoming and take pride in offering the best... The hummus was the creamiest I have ever had was delightful all around. The falafel was excellent and the greek salad with chicken was enough for both lunch and dinner! They served this chicken with this garlic sauce/paste, that was out of this world! Bottom line, having been looking for the best Middle Eastern restaurant in Denver, I can now retire my efforts! Jackpot!! (As far any negative comments about service, I had great service and even if I hadn't , I'd have been willing to been inconvenienced for this food!!) Pros: flavor, price, service, value, selection, welcoming staff, proportions, on and on and one Cons: what? none here... more

My favorite Middle Eastern food in Denver 1/7/2009

I've been going to Shish Kabob Grill since it opened. There is nothing I don't love about the place...the family who owns it is friendly and warm and remembers a face. The lentil soup, hummus and tabouli especially stand out and all of the food is made to order with a very homemade taste. They are open late, are reasonably priced and have a genuine appreciation for their customers. Two big thumbs up! Pros: Tabouli, hummus, lentil soup Cons: A bit drafty more

Best Gyro in Denver....Hands Down! 12/1/2008

I have eaten gyros all over Denver, from Middle Eastern to Greek style, and this is easily the best! I have brought many of my friends to this restaurant and they all agree. They are a must order. Pros: Gyros! Cons: Service has been slow a couple of times more

Best hummous ever - and I've been to Turkey & Morocco! 4/29/2008

This is a small, very clean restaurant which appears family owned. The owner clearly takes pride in the place - it is very simple yet very tidy and 'homey'. The main chef is a woman who, I'm pretty sure, makes everything herself - from the creamy, rich, flavorful hummous to the divine pita to the flaky baklava. Boy, can she cook. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The food here has become the object of craving, the hummous particularly. It is sublime. Lots of people seem to rave about 'Istanbul' restaurant which has received lots of awards but that place has not got a PATCH on Shish Kabob Grill (in my humble opinion). I'm afraid to leave this review because I don't want this gem of a restaurant to become over-run, but the folks that run it deserve big kudos. Pros: Superbly flavorful food, quick service, relaxed casual atmosphere. Not fussy Cons: If they are very busy service can get a little slow more

best hummus in denver 4/24/2008

hummus was delicious!!!!!!! i freaking loved it all. i had the hummus bil-shawerma, basically chicken over a plate of hummus. couldn't ask for a better meal. Pros: the food Cons: kind of scary on the outside more

If Paradise has caterers, Shish Kabob Grill must be one of them 3/31/2008

The food at Shish Kabob Grill is heavenly ... I actually struggle to find words that convey that celestial experience of my palate, as words simply cannot do justice to Shish Kabob Grill. Go there, order something, and experience it yourself. On my next trip to Denver I will eat at Shish Kabob Grill again. Pros: Best mideastern food I ate on two continents Cons: It is too far away from where I live (New York State) more

Worst customer service, ever, anywhere... 2/2/2008

The food here is not bad, generally, but the owner is awful. I had delivery, it took an hour and a half to get here and then the delivery guy, who happens to be the owner, said that I live more than three miles away. I verified my address with the lady who took the order several times, so it sounds like their problem anyway. When I told the guy that he said that I knew that it was too far, right, he says this like he's looking for a fight (I'm a little 20 year old girl). I looked on Mapquest and it is only 2.67 miles, I'd call and complain, but the problem is the owner. What are you going to do? Pros: chicken is pretty good Cons: owner, the smell of the owner... more

Middle Eastern food that is home made, delicate flavors and owner run 1/6/2008

I was in heaven after the meal! The combination plate I ordered was one amazing taste after another. The saffron rice was the best rice I've ever had! My husband and I will go back to this restaurant every time we are in Denver. It's an easy walk up from the east end of the 16th Street Mall. The owner's wife does the cooking and the food has that kind of flavor. We were there on a Sunday night at the end of September, and wished we weren't moving on to the second leg of our trip so we could eat there again. Thank you Omar and thank your wife for us, again. more

What a treaure !! 9/10/2007

This place was a real find. We pulled into Dever and checked into the hotel late on a Labor Day Monday night - not expecting to find any good food open at 10:30pm in the downtown area. What a pleasant surprise! Shish Kabob Grill is maybe the best middle-eastern food I've ever eaten outside Beirut or my grandmother's kitchen. Home cooked by the owner's wife and authentic in every way, the menu is wide and deep. It features fantastiv gyros, kibbe, huummus, tabouli, grape leaves, leban (Yoghurt the really sour right way) among a multipage complete menu - just everything was the best. In talking with the owner he even offered to make kibbe neyah (raw kibbe - think lamb steak tartar) for me with 24 hrs notice. Since it is almost impossible to find kibbe neyah in a restaurant, I accepted his offer and picked it up the next day. It was the best I've ever had. Omar, the owner says he's always there - morning to night. Don't miss this place - it is a major bargain too. Best in class quality food at fast food prices. Pros: The food, the service, the location all top rate Cons: I don't live in Dever to enjoy this place every week. more

BEST value in Denver!!! 10/5/2006

YUM just doesn't cut it!!! I just enjoyed a most excellent and huge gyro for a measly $5 (included fries). The people I was with tried different plates and were equally as impressed with their meals. If I had to pick one thing to criticize--they could use a little less salt. Support a local small business. You will not be disappointed!!! Pros: Great customer service, quality ingredients, BIG plates Cons: could use less salt when preparing food more
