I'm guessing that this salon for the most part performs it's services for females. But being a male in Duluth looking for a place to get a haircut and not having any other options, found myself walking in to this particular establishment to see if they could give me a simple short hair "guy" haircut. They were not busy (now I can see why) so they put me right in a chair. I thought it was strange the way the stylist was cutting my hair but thought that she was the professional and knew what she was doing. When it was all over the price was $8 higher than I was expecting and when I got home my wife noticed the stylist left several long hairs around my ears, the cut was not straight and it looked like she used garden shears to cut the top. After inspecting it myself, it is the worst haircut I have ever had. I believe my stylists name was Kirby. If your a male in Duluth do not go here, it is obvious they do not know how to cut your hair. It's better to wait or drive out of town to get it done somewhere else. Furthermore, I believe any professional stylist should be skilled enough to give a male a decent looking haircut. How hard can it be? more

I've come 4 times in the last year....and I live out of state..and not Wisconsin. They do great colors...and I've loved each cut I've gotten. Facials and pedicures are also nice add-ons if you have the time more

I have been to Aveda quite a few times now and each time I have gone it has been a great experience...except this last time. The hair cut was okay and when I got my hair colored she left the dye so it would stain my skin. I was still able to get it off with some acetone but it still a little frustrating to have to take care of it yourself when you are paying a decent amount to have someone else do it. I will continue to go to Aveda because of the past experiences I have had. more

What a pleasant surprise to get a free neck message with my hair color and cut today. That was the most pleasant appointment I've ever had. Wish they would make that a regular routine. It's a nice touch that would set them apart from other salons. I was new today so I hope they treat their return customers as well as they do new ones. Thanks everyone ! more

First, I want to start by saying, Diane always does an excellent job cutting and styling my hair. She is very personable and always suggests products that can help with my unruly hair. The disappointment is when there are never any products to purchases. This has happened to me several times now. All day I was looking forward to my appointment and purchasing product I needed and left with none of the products I wanted, and pretty upset. In addition, I feel the meet and greet when the costumer arrives is inconstant. I talked to a co-worker about my experience and she said her experience was excellent. She was greeted, offered something hot to drink, received a hot paraffin hand treatment, and at the end of her visit she purchased products. The 2 stars are management. more

I recently had a cut and partial foil. Overall, my experience was standard. My concern lies in my cut. I asked for a half of an inch to no more than an inch trimmed off the ends. I was left with over 3 inches cut off. Also, it is very uneven. I have long hair and this will be easy to hide but it will take awhile to grow back :( more

I got my hair done yesterday- an all over color. I am very pleased with how it turned out and my experience in the salon was fine. However, as I was walking out of the Fitger's complex I ran my fingers through my hair to find that the whole underneath or bottom half of my hair still had dye in it. Apparently the lady who styled me didn't wash it all out and then dried and straightened it with dye still in it. I was mortified and rescheduled my plans so I could go home to shower. I still gave three out five stars because I think that this reflects badly on the specific lady who did my hair- not on the salon as a whole. I have been in before and again was very pleased. more

I have always had a great experience at Shear Katz, but this last time I received poor service and will (most likely) not be returning. I think the employee's schedules were overbooked and did not allow for enough time between services. My manicure was rushed (the person who was to do my hair kept peaking around the corner). However, the facial and massage were both fantastic. I had also booked a blow out with the $99 special, which was very disappointing. I could have done a better, more comfortable job myself. The hairdryer kept tripping and my hair was ripped out by the flat iron (a Hot Tools wet to dry variety being used on dry hair). I asked for a better quality flat iron, which the cosmetologist had to borrow from Doug's stand. He only flat ironed the top part of my hair, leaving sides and underneath curly. I felt that he (the cosmetologist) rushed and this was confirmed when he went to get his next client out of the lobby and apologized for running (3 mins) late. I showed the receptionist my hair after the "blow out" and received 20% off the service... not enough in my opinion. Not the service I am used to at Shear Katz, I left very disappointed. However, with all this being said I think Doug does great work and knows good business. I have previously seen David & Doug and would recommend both. I would also recommend Sabrina & Juliana. more
