Shangri-La

I don't know what you expect for a weekday lunch, but we've been eating there regularly since Shangri La opened in the early 90's, and the dinner is usually spectacular! It may not be the run-of-the-mill food you're used to. This chef was one of the first to bring this kind of food to the Cherry Hill area, and it's still about the best in South Jersey. The fried dumplings are maybe the best I've ever had. Whether we take a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beer with us, we always love the place. more

NOTE: The address should read Cherry Hill, NJ 08003 The other day I tried Shangri-La for the first time. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken lunch special, which cost $5. The chicken was edible, but it was not anything special. It had much more batter than most other Chinese restaurants put, and also tasted greasier. The roast pork fried rice it came with was far too oily (and had a strange brown color). Last of all, the hot and sour soup included in my lunch was almost flavorless. Compared to other Chinese lunches, this one was not that great. However, it was a real value, especially considering the fact that this restaurant is in a nice part of town and is very well decorated inside. (It has a contemporary theme.) The staffer I dealt with was friendly, though the food took a while to come out. If you want to eat good Chinese food, I would avoid this restaurant. There are many other takeouts around here that do a much better job. more
