What do you expect? 11/18/2005

The place was confusing (we had no idea we had to order at the counter), the restaurant was noisy and chaotic, and they forgot one of our dishes. But have you SEEN the PRICES? I didn't expect five star dining, just five star food. And it was. Absolutely the cheapest, most delicious Indian food I have had in a long while. And that's the point, isn't it? Good food? Pros: Food, Prices Cons: Service, Decor more

Overrated 9/25/2005

Good naan isn't enough to redeem Shalimar. The service was chaotic and confusing - even though we went in expecting a counter-service experience. No one explained where or how to get beverages, or whether we or a roving waiter were supposed to pick up our food when it was reader, or who we were supposed to pay. Add to that a noisy, jam-packed dinining room, and it's hard to understand what people like about the place. The prices are cheap, yes, but the food isn't anything to write home about. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Noisy, Chaotic, Average food more

Best Indian Food in the City 5/16/2005

Fabulous naan. The chicken tikka masala was spicy and delicious. We had a super filling meal for $20 total for 2 people, including drinks. The decor isn't much, but who cares? You're there for the cheap and tasty food. Pros: Food, Price Cons: Decor more

too oily, too spicy... too bad 5/9/2005

There was a pool of oil in every dish, and everything was so spicy that by the end it all just tasted the same. The naan was nice and fresh, but nothing spectacular. Either the quality here is dwindling or the competition is getting more fierce, either way count me out on shalimar. Pros: fresh naan Cons: very rude staff, too oily more

Best Cheap Indian I've found yet 5/8/2005

Menu has lots of options: I tried my old stand-by Chicken Tikka Masala. It's been the best I've had in the city, and I plan on going back to try more. Dining room was crowded, noisy since it is divided by the kitchen only by a metal counter. I waited for 5 min to order, and couldn't pay until after I was done (usual for counter service places). Food came out quick (2 min?) and was nice and hot. Not great for a romatic date, but go for the food (can also take-out). Pros: Excellent Indian, Good Prices Cons: Gets busy early, Unwelcoming Dining Ro more

best indian food in the tenderloin 1/27/2005

I highly recommend the aloo naan and chicken kofta. What's great is they don't use cream in their sauces, so the taste is unique from all the other Indian/Pakistani places in the Loin. Pros: inexpensive, excellent food, great staff more

Good Food but Beware ... 8/8/2004

The food is really very good, healthy, and also fresh. I've also tried all the deserts, all very good. The ambience is as bad as it gets but always packed with all kinds of people. Don't expect much. The reason I gave them a lower review was because twice now I was overcharged there. I read another reviewer that said the same here on citysearch and it really upset me how they keep the food costs down but add a little more in the end. Each time it was $2-4. BAD BUSINESS! Service is okay, they really don't care. For those with large groups that have a lot of food, beware and try to keep track cause your the easiest target of over charge. I think I will continue to go but (a) not as often and (b) will definately be double checking the bill and calling them on it. Pros: Fresh Tasty Food Cons: , Overcharge "mistake", Atmosphere more
