Delicious Experience 10/25/2010

One of our favorite dining spots. I you are looking for a culinary experience, this is an adorable hideaway in Saratoga. Hostess & Chef Husband & Wife are genuine and passionate about Sent Sovi. When I look to treat myself, I know each meal will be one-of-a-kind experience. They also host winemaker dinners, in and quaint little private room. It is a great way to share with friends or make new ones. I highly recommend this bistro for a delicious experience, and warm service. more

Great ambiance, world-class food! 5/23/2008

We went here on our first anniversary and it was very memorable. I called in advance about some dietary restrictions which Chef Josiah Slone was easily able to accommodate. Not only that, but he personally came out before our dessert course to confirm a certain ingredient was OK to use. Thats amazing service.\r \r We both had the vegetarian tasting menu and were very impressed. The parsnip soup was bold and flavorful, but not overpowering. There was a mushroom course (I think a Mushroom Ragout) that blew me away. Also, the cactus sorbet as a palette cleanser was a nice touch. Our waiter Javier is clearly a professional in classical dining, and led us through the evening gracefully.\r \r We'll definitely be coming back! Pros: Atmosphere, service, food, accomodation of staff Cons: Not the best parking, but its Saratoga so thats no surprise more

go to a real resturant not a gallery 3/31/2008

I will never go back, I was very clear to the chef/owner that this was my 5year anniversary and I wanted bottle of champagne opened at our table as soon as we arrived. But needless to say not only did he stick us in a corner that was very uncomfortable and odd but he did not even bother to provide the champagne or come out and meet us. The food was so poor and tasteless, our starter was the lobster salad which smelled like it was a few days old I almost gagged and the 48hr short rib that our waiter boasted about being fork tender was even difficult to cut with a knife and tasteless. Also there are lots of paintings on the wall for sale, I wasn?t sure if the owner thinks he or she is running a gallery because it?s sure he?s not running a restaurant. there are many better places to go in san jose.. now i know why the chefs leave so quickly and opent here own restaurnts. also if you like sitting on a hard chair for two ours feel free to make your reservation.. Pros: in a fantastic city Cons: owner and chef more

worst experience ever 2/16/2007

Came here for V-day 2007. It was the worst high end restaurant experience I ever had. The food was good but over priced. The waiter was excellent, BUT the management was terrible. Owner (short Asian lady) was probably too greedy and over booked. It felt like i was in ""In & Out Burger"" during busy lunch hour. We made reservation at 8 but was not seated till 9. There were at least 10-16 people standing around the entrance waiting to be seated. One couple that was already seated actually walked out since it was so loud and nosy. I would not return here again. Pros: food was good, waiter was good Cons: terrible management, be prepared to wait more than 45min with a reservation on busy days more

Highly highly overrated. 2/14/2007

Just came back from the restaurant. Had high expectation for Valentine day, but huge dissapointment. I have to say the food was below average of what I am use to. The price was way above what I am use to. Don't go there for valentine day, you may wait for an hour even if you have reservation and plus the food was poor.\r \r However if you are not into good food, it does have a nice atmosphere. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food!!! Don't go there if you want good food. Price!!! more

Awesome French-Californian Cuisine 11/21/2006

I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary dinner. I'd never been to Saratoga Village before--it was charming if not a little too quiet for a Sunday evening. Either way, there was a lot of street parking and the restaurant was fairly easy to find. We were given excellent directions. Once inside, we were surprised to see only one other couple eating dinner in their moderately-sized dining area. When we were there, I noticed the lovely paintings by Karen Honaker. I particularly liked the work entitled Pinnacle Picnic, which was framed above our table. Their tableware was unique and elegant. We had the house champagne, which was cold and crisp. We started off with a dabble of creamy goat cheese on a lettuce leaf with a touch of citrus and chives. It was tart, of course, and went well with the champagne. Then we each had a bowl of roasted parsnip soup with arbequina oil and roasted almonds. The soup was thick and rich, and was absolutely wonderful! My entree was the chef's special of Huachinango (a type of red snapper that's in season in the Gulf of Mexico at the moment) with Coke Farms braised greens and crispy garlic chips in a \r fennel celery broth. It was delectible! My girlfriend had the Port Salut Yukon hanger steak which she asked to be cooked medium as opposed to medium-rare as is custom; and it still turned out amazingly tender and flavorful. For dessert we split the warm flourless chocolate cake (which had more of a brownie taste and consistency) with vanilla creme Anglaise and super vanilla gelato, along with Happy Anniversary written in hardened chocolate syrup on our plate. Our server was attentive and friendly. I would highly suggest coming here for a special occasion but if you don't want to break the bank, skip out on the wine and you could easily get out of here for under $100 for two people. As it stands, we spent about $175 for two people with everything and were highly satisfied. I firmly believe that good food is always worth it. Pros: Fantastic food, ambiance, and service! Cons: Tiny bathroom more

delicious french food 11/20/2006

The food is amazing. Every part of the meal was wonderful: the soup (roasted parsnip soup with arbequina oil and roasted almond chips), the appetizer (citrus goat cheese), the entree (marinated hanger steak); even dessert (chocolate cake) was wonderful too. It is a bit pricey, but it is well worth it; definately a place to go for a special occasion. The dining atmosphere is wonderful as well: very romantic. I went on a Sunday evening so my boyfriend and I basically had the restaurant to ourselves. The food came out fast and the service was wonderful. Highly recommended! Pros: wonderful service and atmosphere Cons: limited parking more

Great food and superb service. 4/14/2006

My husband and I went to Sent Sovi for a special occasion and were very impressed by the outstanding service and lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious and the staff was extremelly knowledgeable and helpful providing a unique dining experience. We've been to many french restaurants and very expensive ones before, but we've never felt so special as we did at Sent Sovi. We highly recommend it! Pros: service, food, atmosphere more

Very cozy, romantic atmosphere. Tasting menu was just the right amount of food. With the wine pairing be prepared to spend over 250 for two people, but worth the trip. The wine pairings were excellent and complimented the food very well. Nice to see a selection of local wines. Pros: cuisine, atmosphere, wine list more

Not Top Tier, but great Atmosphere 3/8/2006

2nd time there. Food was good (not mind blowing). Portions where mini-mouse size. 99% paying for atmosphere vs. food. Dinner for 2 ran $250. (ok $90 bottle of wine,,, but if you are going to a place like this thinking that a $20-30 bottle will taste good- then save your money and dont even go). Disappointed that #1 entree - the filet -they had run out of at 8 pm, & also 1 of their appetizers. - With only 5 entrees to choose from in total.. not very impressed. We had good service, but table next to us kept complaining how Slow theirs was. I agree. I would be willing to pay $200++ for two for that ""special dinner"" ,,but didnt walk away with that feeling. Just not what you expect from a Top tier restaurant experience. Pros: Atmosphere, Wine list, Location Cons: Portion size, Service Lagged, # of Entrees more

User review by crimsonmaroon 2/26/2006

There is an early menu that offers a very generous three courses for $35 and is well worth the visit. The general menu is a bit too pricey for what is offered, although it is about a good as one gets without going into San Francisco. Wine pairings were well done and worth the additional $15. The actual dining area is splendidly quaint, and perfect for a romantic dinner. Service, however, was clearly being held up by preparations for the normal dinner crowd, and the food while good, took about 40 minutes to get out of the kitchen after the soup was served. more

Great Food, Great Service 2/13/2006

Great deal if you go between 5-6pm. $35 for a delicious 3-course meal. The service was great. I informed them ahead of time that we were trying to catch a show at 8pm in SF and they made sure that we were out by 6:45pm without feeling rushed. Pros: Food, Price-between 5-6pm, Service Cons: Small more

Absolutely Postively Awesome 5/16/2005

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere.... What else can I say but Grreeaatt!!! I recommend the tasting menu and the wine pairing. The chef was very creative as the food had really good presentation and really good tastes. The wine pairing totally complemented the food, too. The wait staff had extensive knowledge of the wines that they served. This cozy little restaurant is definitely worth a try. I'm definitely coming back! Pros: food, atmosphere, service Cons: low occupancy more

Most Romantic restaurant in Bay Area! 3/23/2005

My firend recommended Sent Sovi to me after dining a few times there with works folks. I'm glad he did. I took my girlfirend there and we were both blown away. Everything about our experience was memorable. The restaurant is intimate, the service is impeccible, and our dishes were very good. I had the hanger steak (the potatoes served with were incredible) and my girl had the tiger prawns. She was reluctant to share. It's very pricey, but well worth it. Any future special occassion will be at Sent Sovi. more
