Editorial review from Citysearch 4/20/2013

We were told about this restaurant by a friend because I had told him how I like the Paris Bistro in Sugarhouse. Apparently Sea Salt is owned by the same person, the service is nowhere as good and the food is just okay. I ordered the orecchiette al sugo di mare, basically pasta with sea food. The dish was supposed to have crab, clams, mussels, and calamari in the pasta. When I got my food the waitress said,""mussels were out of season and the chef gave me more clams as a substitute"". I said, ""that was fine I don't really care for mussels all that much anyway."" The waitress left, and as I started eating my food I noticed there wasn't any calamari and only a small amount of crab in my pasta. By the time the waitress came back to check on us [because she was not all that attentive] I had finished. So I asked her if calamari was also out of season because there was not any in my pasta. She said, ""I don't know I'll check with the chef."" She returned and said, ""no there should have been calamari in your pasta, I'm sorry if there wasn't."" I did not ask to be comped nor did she offer. It just seems she did not believe me because I had already eaten my food, because I was hungry, and it was good even if it did not have mussels or calamari in it. Maybe they should rename the dish orecchiette al sugo di clams with a little bit of crab. I won't be going back because I did not care for the service, and my impression is that they only want to cater to the upscale bohemian clientele [or in other words they are snobs].\r more

VERY UNFRIENDLY 3/16/2012

We were very disappointed and will never go back. We walked into the restaurant at 5:15 PM tonight. There were only two tables taken in the entire place. The hostess was not very friendly and when I said ""two and a highchair"" she looked up and said ""do you have a reservation?"" in a rude tone. I said ""no"". She took a while to figure out which table to seat us and then said ""this way"". We walked to the table and then she said ""just so you know, we only have two highchairs and they are both being used at the moment"". So I didn't know what to do. Our 18 month old would not be able to sit and eat in a chair. She offered no solution. I said ""you really should have more than 2 highchairs in this place"" and she responded with something along the lines of ""the owner is not catering to kids"". I asked to speak with the manager and he was at least nice but did not offer a solution and also stated that it was not a ""kid friendly"" restaurant. They are not very smart to say, that as my husband and I frequent that place a lot on our own as do my friends and family. I will be sure to tell everyone I know about this experience and we will not be returning to Sea Salt. more
