My vintage clothing store-Second Hand Rose and Adolph?s featuring men's and women's apparel presented a fashion show, ?A Touch of Hollywood-Fashion Designs and Finds of Daphne Maxwell Reid"" at the Country Club of Petersburg. Daphne Maxwell Reid is best known for her role as Aunt Viv on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Reid?s fashions are now being sold exclusively in my store, Second Hand Rose, located at No. 8 Bank St., Petersburg, VA. This was a very high profile event. It was important to me to have the best possible look with regard to makeup and hair designs for my models. Scissors far exceeded my expectations in that regard. It was an amazing beauty transformation experience for all of the models involved in the show. Scissors' set-up (a full salon) on the site of the fashion show was much like being on the set of a major movie production--makeup and hair artists right at your fingertips. Simone, the owner of Scissors gathered information about each of the eight model?s physical appearance including photos prior to the event which enabled her and her staff to give each model the makeup and hair designs that created the look of Hollywood in record time. The service was very professional and was performed with great confidence. Simone bonded extremely well with each model. She had on some great looking boots that she felt would enhance the look of one of the models outfits and she allowed her to wear them in the show. Awesome! Simone has created a quality and innovative service that is personal, friendly, and professional. She wants her clients to get the best possible look from her service. That's what she did for the models and the models felt special and glamourous. Thanks Scissors for helping to make this fashion show a great success. Simone did a wonderful job with my hair. I showed her a photo and she cut/styled it similarly, but in a way that flattered me. She even got my hair straight without using a straightening iron which was greatly appreciated because irons cause a lot of damage to hair. I also appreciated that she cut my hair conservatively in the front to make sure she didn't cut it too short. Then when it was dry she let me decide if I wanted it shorter. Hair is really elastic when it's wet and it is easy to overcut. She also made sure she didn't cut a lot off the entire length. I will definitely use Simone as my regular stylist. She didn't take very long, but she did an excellent job. I was also very comfortable in the salon, so it was an overall positive experience. After searching all over town for a decent haircut, I found Simone. At 44 yrs old, I needed to get my hair out of the 80's. After a short consultation I gave Simone ""free reign"" and she took 15 yrs off my age. Simone is a genius in her craft. I left feeling a confidence I thought was gone and I will never go anywhere else again. I will also take my 3 daughters there as well. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone looking for a place to get a haircut. I just moved to the area and always have a hard time trying to find a new salon to go. I found Scissors on city search, read the reviews, and decided to try it out. It was a great decision. The people are so friendly and they really do a great job. I haven't had my haircut in months and I love the job Simone did. I will only go there until I move out of the area. If you are looking for a place that does a great job and really cares about what you want, then I recommend going there. more

I made an appointment with Simone today in tears begging for help. After yesterday having a chop job done at the local Hair Cuttery. My hair was chopped in every which way and I was charged for a highlight and dye job that i never recieved. Simone ever so carefully helped me in deciding that wow factor that i had been looking for, and after giving me a beautiful new deep red look she then helped me step back into the new year with a stunning look, one that adjusted the chunks of hair that could not be replaced by the other place. She took me from feeling like i had no options bnut to cut all of the length off my hair to feeling as if i had every option in the world and nothing had been done that could not be fixed.The best thing for me was stepping into her salon, and guatenteed I will never go anywhere else ever again. Despite her insistance that it was ok that I see other stylist. Her whole friendly attitude was positive and professional in the highest since. Both her and her assistant Tim were ever so kind and understanding. Not to mention you almost feel at home in her shop.The shops setting is so relaxing and comfortable. I even took my partner with me and he was very relaxed and had plenty to read and do. Simone kindly offers all in her shop a fresh cup of coffee and a since of automatic friendship. I can not reccommend the Scissors salon enough. Simone is great with both hair cut and color. I recently went on a trip to Europe and wanted to update my hair but needed something that required very little care. Simone did a great job on my color--I went darker rather than lighter--I really love it and would have never have done that without her perspective. And the cut is great--wash and wear. I was not able to use a hair dryer on my trip--electrical current problems. So, I washed my hair in the morning and let it go. No problem. Simone payed attention to me, even though I did not know exactly what I wanted to do, and was able to do something that was right for me. Thank you. I highly recommend Scissors. more

I haven't had my hair colored in years, because let's face it, it's scary trying to find a new colorist after growing out your hair from bad past color services! Also because coloring seems to really dry out my hair. It's been 8 weeks since my first visit to Simone and her color and products are so moisturizing and nourishing - I swear not only will I never have my hair touched by anyone else but, I will recommend this salon to my friends that truly worship their hair and to those who deserve to look as fabulous as I do! I happened upon Scissors while walking around the Bottom. Since i'd been looking for a new place to go and it's close to where i work, I decided to give Scissors a call. \r My appointment with Simone was great! She was fun, energetic, and so happy to talk about my hair, possible cuts, etc. etc. I love the cut she gave me -- she really listened to what I wanted and made it look even better than I expected.\r I will definitely go back and have already recommended her to several friends. : ) more

Simone has it all. Her new (built 1840) salon has the charm of an era I thought was lost. It has been beautifully restored and decorated, and the authentic appointments of this store-front have been preserved. \r \r My first visit started with a relaxing interview while I was seated in a very comfortable massage chair. As I enjoyed this magical leather seat, Simone asked the questions I believe are absolutely necessary for understanding a client's expectations. She went further than the ""how do you like your hair cut?"" questions. She wanted to know what was important to me as a customer in general. You know that long lost art of customer service? Simone has not forgotten it. \r \r Simone shampoos your hair and gives you an excellent scissor cut-- no buzz saw Flowby trimmers to save time in the creation of her style. She throws in sincere conversation as she delivers her professional services. And the results? My wife has never complimented any haircut I've ever received. Tonight, she gave me several compliments. Scissors is a fun and eclectic salon. Simone began my appointment by discussing my hair and asking me what I was looking to achieve. She gave great advice and clearly knew her stuff. She was able to back up everything she said with a great cut which all of my friends and neighbors have admired. First of all, the second I walked into her ""trendy"" salon, I thought I would pass out from the smell of hair products. Get a fan. When it was time for my haircut, I tried to explain what I wanted. A trim with some face framing layers. Sounds easy right? Well not for Simone. I had to go into a debate on what was considered chin length and a trim is only this much and blah blah blah. I'm an easy going person, but this was too much. I don't need to argue with my stylist about what to call 2 inches. I walked out after wasting an hour of my time. I feel sorry for everyone who thinks she compares to any legit stylists. Coming from LA, I could find a better stylist at Fantastic Sams on La Brea. more

I would like to take a moment and let people know about a unique experience I had with Scissors Hair Studio. Simone came to my home and brought her Salon on wheels! Yes, you heard me, a salon on wheels! Simone pulled up with her bus and it was awsome! When you enter it looks just like a full scale salon! Equipped with everything she needed to give us a haircut! There was even a couch to sit on while we waited! I have never seen anything like it! It was really a unique experience and Simone gives great Haircuts! You have to see this to believe it. I would like to let everyone know how professional the salon on wheels looks and you won't regret getting Simone to cut your hair. All in all it was a very good experience. more

I love it when a stylist asks to have her way with my hair. I came in depressed, tired of the way I looked. I left looking 10 years younger. Simone is a genius with color, and I got the best haircut ever. I just got back from a party, and had lots of compliments. It's been a long time since that happened. I cant count the number of times that people (I dont even know) have asked me where I get my hair done. Simone is an excellent hair colorist/stylist! I will definitely go back to Scissors again! I love my hair cut and color! Also, the 'fake bake' self tanner that Simone recommended is amazing! The tanner is not orangy at all, it looks like a perfect tan! Tim is extremely curtious, professional, and helpful over the phone. Awesome!
