Sandoval's Mexican Restaurant

When we first started going here we liked it a lot but the service has gone downhill over the years and the owner either doesn't seem like he cares or is too overwhelmed to correct it. They have had music playing in the past on the outside patio and that is a great feature! I wish the service would get better like it used to be (in the past they would apologize for bad service and otherwise would provide good service) but now they make no apologies and the service is often poor (on our last visit they waited on several people who were seated after us which was a bit annoying after a while). After hearing of the wonderful dining experiences my two friends had at Sandoval's, I thought it would be the perfect restaurant to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. But I sure was wrong - the wait for a table was a bit lengthy, and it was hard to attract our waitress's attention. But this was only the beginning - we, and every other patron in the restaurant waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food - no one in the resturant had their food, and the servers kept serving drinks and nachos to try and make up for this fact. When our food finally came, it was very dissapointing, and did not live up to my expectations of Mexican cuisine. We weren't even reimbursed in any way for our wait, and instead were given t-shirts and beads as tokens for the management's apologies. TERRIBLE RESTAURANT! I have visited all of the Sandoval's restaurants in Portland, they are outstanding. I am always greeted with a warm smile, prompt service, and the chips and salsa our excellent. I highly recommend Sandoval's restaurants if you are looking for the best mexican food in Portland, Oregon! My family and children always request Sandoval's! It's too bad about the experience above (frankly, I don't know of a single restaurant that would give a customer an entire FREE MEAL for an incorrect order, but that's just me). Anyway, I have been a regular customer of Sandoval's for probably close to seven years and I am never disappointed. From their fish tacos to their taco soup to their margaritas to the best guacamole I have ever had in my life, their menu is impressive and authentic, the atmosphere festive and their service is friendly. We were so disappointed with the lack of customer service from the owner that we will never go back to this restaurant. They made a mistake on our order, the waitress said there was no one in charge to help us and gave us the number to call the owner. We went ahead and paid for the meal, (which was wrong, and brought to us far too slowly and cold) When we called we thought he would, at the very least, invite us to enjoy a complimentary meal and apologize -- but he eluded that he had plenty of happy customers, and would do nothing.
