Beware vegetarians! sandoval's 12/15/2011

Beware vegetarians! sandoval's knowingly puts chicken stock in their ""vegetarian burritos""! On 3 occasions I was served a ""vegetarian burrito"" at the PDX location before I found out that they use chicken stock in their rice. When I approached the management about this they did not respond. When I told the Port of Portland, sandoval's sent someone to talk to me. I expressed to them that they were false advertising, and that it was morally wrong to trick someone into eating something that they did not want to eat. I further explained that if someone had an alergy- this could be a lawsuit. Finally, I asked them to either change the menu and remove the rice from the ""vegetarian burrito"" or change the stock they use to veggie stock. Simple, HUH? It's been two years since then... I stopped in the other day to ask if they still use chicken stock... no change... No new menu... thousands of potential vegetarians being cheated out of their choice... These people are low... real low... Kind of makes you wonder what else they're not telling you. more

Still searching for good Mexican restaurant in Portland 9/11/2011

Our search for good Mexican food in Portland area did not end at Sandoval's in Tigard. THE very worst Mexican food I ever had, bland and tasteless. I had shrimp on a taco salad, the shrimp was cold and boiled and had the consistency and taste of a pencil eraser. Run away from this place, you can get a good margarita anywhere. more

Mouth-Watering 11/10/2010

OMG could not have been more pleased. I have eaten there several time and the most recent was the best!\r \r Had the seafood burrito and I swear it melted in my mouth. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. The service was great! Can't wait until I am in Portland again so I can go back for some great food. more

""the place with bugs"" 4/28/2010

First time we went we discovered bugs in our chips halfway through the basket. This was at the end of our meal. We showed the waitress, she said ""eww"" and wouldn't touch the basket. She said she would tell our waiter. We weren't expecting a free meal or anything, but an apology was surely expected...nothing. besides the bugs the service at the west linn location is beyond horrible. If you ever go and there is a cute girl with an a line like bob in tight clothes, and a male working...RUN. They are horrible, lazy, untrained, idiots. If the heavier set mexican lady is there you are in good hands-she is one of the best servers I have had. We do like to food though. The tacos al carbon are awesome and we keep going back...refering to it as the place with bugs when we talk. I have only tried the west linn location. I am not kidding however when I say do not eat there when those two servers are there. They do not wash there hands, touch your food, will take forever making your basic margarita-usually remaking it several times because they screwed up, will blatantly ignore your table even if you are the only ones there, will let your food sit and wait even if they are not doing anything. The one think I have learned is that if the hiring person wants to bang you, you can keep a job there. Yay for progress. Pros: good food Cons: bugs in food, if you get a good looking waitress..RUN more

5 mehs 3/26/2009

We decided to go here after a friendly recommendation, but I did look at these reviews before we went - I guess I should have been tipped off by the average reviews, three stars being halfway between the ""oh my, SANDOVAL'S™ is simply WONDERFUL visit SANDOVAL'S™"" five-star reviews and the one-star ""urgh""s. Wen went along anyway, got a table immediately and I ordered the mole enchiladas. Anyway yeah, the food was not so good. Pretty bland, I think I aimed too high with the mole (another review said it was great - it wasn't), and the sour cream was like a thick zigzag of toothpaste, obviously from a squeezy bottle. The service was fine, but when the waitress came to refill our salsa bowl she did it from an old, beaten-up tupperware jug, salsa plopping out of the spout. Appetizing! Pros: We were seated straightaway, cheap specials Cons: Even the specials aren't bringing us back there more

Go ANYWHERE else 3/26/2009

""I don't usually write reviews, but this experience was so bad, I am trying to save your stomachs and your wallets."" I completely agree. I have been to countless Mexican restaurants and not only is this below average, it is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Service wasn't notably good or bad, but it's hard to believe the food could be this bland. Don't ruin your night out by coming here. Cons: Food is terrible more

Three words: spicy chicken tacos!!! 12/12/2008

My husband and I have become regulars since we moved to the neighborhood two years ago. We love the place! The staff are friendly and very attentive, we have never had to wait to get a seat, and the food is great. Our favorite is the spicy chicken taco plato! It is the best! In reading some of the reviews on here I really don't think some of these people were even at the same restaurant by there descriptions, this place truly is a gem. :) Pros: parking, service, food, patio Cons: nothing really :) more

great experience! 7/20/2008

Since moving to Beaverton 6 months ago we've been looking for a great Mexican restaurant. At 9 months pregnant I was really craving something spicy last weekend and we tried Sandovals since it is close to our home. The mole sauce was really good, and the chile relleno one of the best I've had. The complimentary salsa was also quite good, and obviously homemade. Everything else was pretty good, but not fantastic. Service was great - plenty of drink refills and attention. We'll definitely go again when the craving hits! more

Mediocre food. No complaints about the service. 6/7/2008

I have eaten at Sandoval's twice, and nothing about the place inspires me to return. The food is average in every way and flavor is lacking. I live right down the street from Sandoval's and have no desire to return and give it another shot at my taste buds or wallet. Unfortunately, living in Beaverton, it's hard to find decent Mexican food anywhere in this town. I'll usually stop at one of the taco trucks on Allen Blvd if I'm craving a taco or burrito, otherwise I avoid all the sit down restaurants in Beaverton (and believe me, I've tried quite a few). The service was good and I have no complaints. Pros: Service was just fine. Cons: Mediocre, uninspired food. more

Horrible service, food merely adequate 5/6/2008

I went with a few friends, and there were several parties waiting, and what appeared to be an honor system for who got the next available table. We had to go confront a couple that was attempting to take the table that was being cleaned for us, even though we had arrived a half hour before them. The service was SLOW and it was not that busy. After we finished eating, we waited ONE FULL HOUR for our check to come to the table, despite repeatedly trying to ""flag down"" a server. Then I had to get up twice to actually get someone's attention to pay. We were given tiny (4 oz.?) glasses for water, and they were never refilled. It was not too busy to expect decent service. A couple of servers were standing around the cash register, and another was sitting at a table folding napkins.\r As for the food, it was adequate. Nothing special, but certainly not awful. I will not go here again and do not recommend it. Pros: Plenty of parking Cons: service more

Amazing food, great dinning, and wonderful service 2/7/2008

This restaurant is one for the books. It is a must, you have to make it for the great food, large drinks and all around fun atmosphere. I think that the service was prompt and readily available anytime you need. The chips and salsa are ones that you start and cannot stop eating. Hope that you try this pleasure of a restaurant, you won't regret it! Pros: Great service, wonderful food and reasonable pricing more

gotta love it 2/7/2008

amazing mexican food! Nachos and quesadillas are my favorites however, people i have been with have had lots of the different menu items and loved all. no complaints from any of my co-sandoval-goers. more

Wonderful!! 2/7/2008

I've been here over 10 times and it has been amazing. The service is great and the food is even better. I highly recommend Sandoval's to anyone who is looking for a great meal. more

Best mexican food and drink you can find in the NW!!!! 2/7/2008

Everything here is wonderful. the service is great! the drinks are better and the food is to die for!! no better chili verde anywhere, and trust me, i frequently eat mexican cuisine in the portland area and have yet to find anything better. two words can describe Sandoval's ""WOW, great!"" Pros: everything Cons: only somebody who doesn't know/like mexican food would have cons about Sandoval's more

Horrible! 12/27/2007

We went to the new West Linn location - great chips and salsa. Besides that, AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!!!\r For our $9 apiece Margaritas, we got mostly tequila mix. Chez Jose and Juan Colorado's are infinitely better. For our food, the refried beans were some grayish mush. They call a serving of sour cream some drizzled tasteless white substance over the top of your serving. For our service, we got a waitress (Trelawne) who thought she was doing us a favor serving us rather than the other way around. While we were in there, the smell of onions was so bad, I thought it would get into our hair and clothing. Since when do you sit in a restaurant and have it filled with the odor of onions? What's wrong with their ventilation? Then to top it all off, later that night, I got sick. Fresh food my foot! Baja Fresh puts them to shame. I don't usually write reviews, but this experience was so bad, I am trying to save your stomachs and your wallets. If you want quality Mexican food, drinks and service - Chez Jose for food and drinks; Juan Colorado for drinks. Be forewarned. Pros: don't have to go into the city Cons: everything else more

Don't bother.....go to TacoBell 12/11/2007

Went to the new location in West Linn. \r People were friendly, some of the servers ok.. ....Food not good. \r In our opinion Sandoval's should stick to the food court in the airport where people are so tired and/or stressed that they don't care what they eat. \r My husband and I had the wet burritos, mine veggie his chicken, tasted like something they put together out of the leftovers of other returned plates. And no condiments that were mentioned, such as guacamole were on them and we couldn't find cheese (or veggies in my case) in them\r We were there at 5:45 on a Tues and they had run out of white wine of any sort to serve also. (so they had a pink to substitute that they charged $7.50 a glass for ...unbelievable but true)\r TacoBell gets my vote! more

We frequent this place 7/28/2007

Great Mexican food. The service is always good and prompt. The food only takes a few minutes to be served, even when they are busy. They always keep you supplied with chips & salsa. more

If this is 'authentic' mexican food ... then it is no wonder so many want to leave! 2/22/2007

Lousy food, worse service. Beans and salsa out of a 50 gallon drum. The margaritas come from a cheap mix. Come on, you can go to a Taco Bell at one quarter the price and get better food. more

Great big portions 11/14/2006

This place has great big portions for thier burrito's and enchilada's. I would highly reccomend splitting an entree. The margarita's are great here as well. Pros: Big portions Cons: Could be redecorated more
