I have been going to this Salon for abut 3 years. I found it while I was walking down Madison Ave(where they use to be) and it said Specializes in Curly Hair. Of course I was very skeptical b/c I have been to many places in the city who say they can cut curly hair and all I have to say is there were a lot of tears and hat! So I walked in and met with Leslie! She was fantastic! We talked and I explained my hair situation, I have extremely tight, curly hair and she totally got it!!! I have only been back to her and I let Leslie have free range with my hair. Everytime I go, I walk out like a new person . Today I actually just went and she gave me a very cute, short,sleek cut and blew out my hair straight! I hugged her. Everyone who struggles with curly hair, you MUST go and meet with Leslie, you won't be disappointed!!!!! Pros: Very nice, attentive staff. more

I have to say this really knocked my socks off. I left here looking and feeling like a million dollars. So the decor goes like this: 12 generously spaced chairs to spread out and let the stylists do there thing to you, and many gorgeous Chandeliers giving the salon the perfect lighting. Mirrors are all around you in perfect places. There are heat lamps to have your hair dried with plenty of space so you do not feel jam packed as well as the most comfortable seats to have your hair washed in. There is also a station for manicures. The old beautiful brick walls are covered in fascinating art work that is for sale, and the front of the salon is a floor to ceiling style window so you can people watch on 5th avenue. \r Katya is simply amazing. Her smile lights up the room and her personality says everything for her. She wants perfection, and she?s willing to work as hard as she has to, to make sure you are happy. The color that she gave to my hair went from this dull reddish brown when I came in the salon to this rich chocolate brown with some hints of succulent cherry. Enough to make anyone?s mouth water. Once the color is set in..I moved over to have my hair washed by this man with magical fingers. His name is Jeffery and he took the stress out of my neck with this incredible massage that I got while he was also washing my hair. He took his time, and made sure that he massaged each part of my head. Leslie is great too?she is the woman who dried my hair and made it pin straight. She really knows how to work that hair dryer, my hair has never looked so good. Santa is the owner of this place. She is also a stylist who gives her all to everyone. I can see from the customers that are talking to her that she is loved and respected to the fullest extreme. I guarantee once you come here, you will never want to have your hair done anywhere else. I am hitting a milestone and wanted to refresh my look. I chose them based on a recommendation.\r \r Wow! I am impressed with Salon Santa Cruz. I went there after a messy ?divorce? from my previous hairdresser. Like any other relationship venturing to a new one takes a leap of faith? So I did it! I took the leap and Santa (means Saint in Spanish) was there to catch me! The Salon is on the second floor; a quaint little place. I found her to be knowledgeable about the trials and tribulations the curly haired crowd face daily. She is no-nonsense ? which I found refreshing. I never liked hearing what a stylist thought I wanted and then leaving dissatisfied. Interestingly enough, I can even do my hair myself. I am no professional but it looks good for a DIY do!\r \r For the record, I didn't get the full service but was treated cordially and noticed that others around me got the same. There is something to be said for consistency. I would be willing to try out their other services and recommend them.\r \r more

I recently had my hair cut and highlighted by Katya at the Santa Cruz salon after a friend recommended her to me. I have to say that I absolutely love my hair and have gotten a ton of compliments after getting my new look. The salon staff is extremely friendly and make you feel welcome and relaxed. I highly recommend this salon and Katya in particular as she is just amazing! (although it seems that everyone else here is super good also). Thanks SOOOO MUCH!!! Mentally and physically depleted from a very hectic holiday season, it was time for some major restoration.\r \r I had the good fortune of going to Salon Santa Cruz. I was very warmly greeted at the reception area by the the owner Santa. She immediately seated me, and thoroughly discussed what type of hair I had and what look I wanted. Santa then made an assessment and gave me her recommendations. \r \r Throughout the visit, I was treated royally by the staff, the space was beautiful and it was just what i needed to unwind from the flurry of activity. The salon was beautifully decorated for the holidays, thesalon is spacious so that I was not subjected to anyone elses conversations and i did not feel crammed, i was offered wine or any other refreashments by the many assistants. \r \r As for my hair, I had a major overhaul, starting by correcting my very brassy hair color to a more natural chocalate color with warm color highlights. These colors are more natural looking. My hard to cover gray was completely gone!! I always leave athe salons with a few gray hairs showing. This was not the case here. \r \r Santa gave me a classic but more updated haircut so that I no longer had the matronaly look. \r I look years younger, I love my hair color, the cut is so easy to manage. Tip #1, ask for Jeffery. He gives the best scalp massage in the city. Then you?re off to your stylist. Throughout your service you?re asked if you want a beverage or magazine. I have gotten my hair done by Santa Cruz because her work is flawless. My hair looks great curly or straight. You'll feel like a million bucks after your experience with her. The salon is on 5th Avenue and you certainly get what you pay for and some. If you want a luxurious experience and perfect hair results Salon Santa Cruz is the place to go. Tip #2, the junior stylists are well trained and do great hair for a discounted price. Every time I walk out of Salon Santa Cruz after one of Leslie's phenomenal cuts, I feel like a million bucks! I am an amazingly picky and particular kind of guy but Leslie has found a way to get it right every time. The new location is gorgeous, convenient, and spacious. Everyone working there is a pleasure to deal with. I have been a long time customer and intend to be one for a much longer time. Great job on the new place Santa! I just came home from my first experience at salon SantaCruz, and I love my haircut! I originally heard about the salon from Wendy Williams, but I decided to finally go after reading all the great reviews from other people with thick, curly hair like mine. It has been at least 6 months since my last haircut, and my hair was severely damaged. Leslie looked at my hair before the assistant shampooed it, and she knew exactly what to do. We had great conversation (we're both new moms), and I am really happy with my cut. My hair looks and feels healthy. I had a wash, deep condition, cut, roller set, blowdry, and flat iron. I was there from 10am to almost 2pm, and spent $200, but it was worth it. I am definitely going back. more

Katya has given me beautiful haircuts in the last 10 years!! I love her energy and ideas, first she listens to you and then figures out what you need, she is so cool and really upgrades herself each season with some new skills. I have curly, frizzy hair and struggled with it all my life. No matter how much i styled it, it always looked wild, dry, and unkempt. That all changed when i went to get a haircut from Leslie at Salon Santa Cruz. I wanted shorter hair but wasn't sure what i could pull off. Leslie is amazing, she gave me a modern, chic haircut that is easy to maintain. I never thought my hair could look this way. I absolutely love it and have been getting compliments non-stop. Best of all Leslie took the time out to show me how to straighten and style it properly, but also how to wear it curly if i wanted to. The quality and attention offered by the Salon is amazing, I have never received the same service at another salon. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and cater to your needs. When I moved to the north Madison Square Park area after years of living farther downtown, I wondered if I would be able to find a nearby salon that could give me the appropriate edgy and sophisticated cut I have become accustomed to. I walked into Salon Santa Cruz with some hesitation. However, once I saw Katya and talked to her I knew that I would be fine. Her chic, cool, down-to-earth yet sophisticated style and personality is an indication of the way she cuts hair. I have naturally curly hair, and she has transformed the way I take care of it. \r \r Due to the nature of my career, I sometimes have to make public appearances and Katya has always given me a cut that makes me feel confident.\r \r I am a guy who hates to get my hair cut. I usually switch stylists/salons every few months. But Katya makes it easy. I have never felt that a particular salon was essential to the way I look. However, because of Katya and Salon Santa Cruz, I can't imagine going anywhere else. more

I highly recommend Andrew at Salon Santa Cruz. He gave me the best haircut I've ever had! I wanted my shoulder length relaxed hair cut into a bob with bangs, and Andrew did an excellent job. He was very nice, listened to what I wanted, and made suggestions on what he thought would look best on me. I was nervous about having my hair cut too short, but Andrew talked me through the whole process and explained everything he was doing. In the end, I was extremely satisfied with the cut. I TOTALLY love Salon Santa Cruz. Katya is my hair goddess! I found this Salon when I was looking for someone who could appropriately handle my curly hair -- I had so many hair stylist nightmares -- and Katya really handled my hair well. I made the mistake of letting someone else cut my hair once since I started going to Katya, and I will NEVER EVER do it again. Katya also helped me go red and has created a shade and technique for me that I regularly get compliments on. I never hesitate to respond, ""thanks, my hair stylist made it for me!"" I even started bringing my partner to Katya and we always feel very welcome and taken care of in this salon. Katya did wonders for her hair too - made her thinning hair feel and look much thicker...and Katya always has a new style to try on her (she brought back the 80s for this Joan Jett lover!). The staff are all wonderfully friendly. I have learned some great tips on taking care of my curly hair both from Katya and from information in the salon -- I tried out a silk pillowcase which has done wonders for my curls! Oh - and I can't forget to mention the shampooers, there is some serious shampooing skill in this salon!\r We always talk about what we will do about our hair if we ever leave NYC! The salon is conveniently located, and beatifull! The stylist Katya was so cool and trendy! She is very knowledgeable about hair, it was amazing to see the results .My hair was frizzy and undefined. After the haircut my curls fell better and looked defined, I loved the layers.After the color and cut the products she gave helped me maintain my hair even after the visit ,I'm hooked . I was very reluctant to try a new salon for my hair. I hated my natural curly hair and was a slave to my hair iron, hair dryer and a straightening products. However I decided that I would try to wear my hair natural for the summer since it would be easier to maintain. I googled in curly hair salons and a few came up. One of them was Santa Cruz Salon. I liked the blogs and reviews written and decided to take a leap, get on the LIRR to Manhattan and check it out. My appointment was with Antonio. He is very sweet and you can tell immediately that he is truly an artist the way he cuts, then inspects what he cut and how it falls on your head, and then continues to shape your entire head until it is a true work of art. I was very nervous and let Antonio know that I am a bit of a neurotic when it comes to change. He was gentle, caring and listened. My hair came out amazing. I will definitely become a regular at Santa Cruz Salon and I highly recommend it to others with curly hair. Pros: Great friendly atmosphere more
