If you are interested in excellent hair care you must visit Salon Santa Cruz on Fifth Avenue between 28th and 29th Street. \r \r The salon is lovely and the customer service is excellent. I've had my hair done by a number of the stylist there and have consistently been please particularly since I have lots of hair that is very challenging to work with. They are trendy in their cuts and make the customer a priority. I highly recommend it. The owner, Santa Cruz, is a lovely lady works hard to ensure that her customers leave her salon satisfied. \r more

I was really looking forward to this visit for several weeks prior to my appointment. I was getting a Brazilian Blow Out and was expecting great service based on the positive reviews. Instead, I received very subpar service. The entire atmosphere at the salon is EXTREMELY unprofessional. They gave me to a trainee who somehow managed not to wash my hair the right away. Rather than being pleasant, as hair washing at a salon usually is, it was painful because I felt like he was tangling and ripping my hair. He left me several times with shampoo in my hair at the sink to go investigate something. The blow out itself was horrific as well. It was done in a very crude manner and I felt as though my hair was being torn out of my scalp by the trainee (who did this part as well). The ""hair stylist"" took over only toward the end of the service since he was with a different costumer. By that time, I was so frustrated that I just wanted to leave the salon as soon as possible. I was never told when I made the appointment that I would be part of a teaching session and I feel as though the salon should inform their costumers of this. I have gone to many different salons and NEVER had a trainee handle my hair without being asked first. I am all for teaching, but I feel as though customers who are paying hundreds of dollars have the right to be informed and to choose. As for my Brazilian Blow Out, maybe it didn't take to my hair or maybe the products used were subpar as well. There is very little difference in my hair. In any case, I will not be revisiting this salon. more

horrific experience, beware all !!! i got a promotion from the website for Keratin Blowout. once i left the salon my hair looked good only until next morning. i woke up and started crying as my hair was a real mop. Obviously they are not using what they advertize, my hair got killed with formaldehide, when i called next day and asked if this can be fixed they lie to me first giving me approintment and then calling and cancelling it stating that there is noting they can do for me further. Even worse, they refuse to credit my card when i ask for refund. And they send another lie letter to my credit card company. Be careful with these crooks, do not get yourself fooled by their cheap promotion, it is cheap because they use crap products. for me now it is not only money lost but my hair is more tangled than ever was, i noticed that i am loosing more hair after this so called treatment. better pay extra but go to reputable places who at least will stand by their quality and will have decency and loyalty to customer. This salon obviously is after one time deals, once they grabbed your money they do not care. \r more

Today was the day that I felt good not only on the outside but on the inside.\r Having a great cut makes you strut proudly..doesn't it?\r I was in serious need of a haircut but being out of work made this costly expense hard to manage except for today all thanks to a new and talented hairstylist named Jackie who is in training at the salon. With a bit of supervision from the owner herself I was very confident that my haircut would look like what I wanted and asked for. Thanks to an ad I found on craigslist, I received a free haircut that soon will cost more than I could afford.\r Jackie will soon be entitled to raise those prices because of his talent, it will be worth it.\r Thanks to Santa Cruz for bringing him in and making me feel pretty again!\r And I can't forget to mention the service of professionalism\r all around starting with a head massage during my hair washing and the cool atmosphere.\r See you soon.\r Barbara from Williamsburg.Bklyn. more

My first visit was for a cut almost two years ago and I was very happy with that service. I had been to the salon before for a touch-up and was happy w/ it. This time around, a new stylist, maybe his name was Carlos, attended to me and the experience was unpleasant. The assistant, Jeffrey was very nice and attentive. I'm pretty sure the relaxer that was available to me last time was not available this time around, but proceeded anyway. I was left w/ a relaxer burn, despite being prepped beforehand. Not cool. After the relaxer, the stylist (I use the term loosely) sprayed detangler in my hair and set me under the dryer so I didn't have to walk out with wet hair. This I expected, but since the last stylist that attended to me last year at least left some Moroccan Oil in my hair to protect it and not have it look so gross, I expected something similar. There was no care about how I'd look, let alone the health of my hair, leaving their salon. This seemed like shoddy service. I came in with dirty hair and left with dirty hair, which I will take the blame for as I should have spoken up. That evening I washed my hair again myself. In fact, when I went to my local salon two days later she still smelled the relaxer in my hair and used a neutralizing shampoo just in case. Hopefully my hair won't fall out. The affair on the whole, seemed unprofessional and not really fitting a salon that bills itself as high-end. I would have been better off going to the generic wash and set salons near my job where 50 bucks will buy you a touch-up and a blow-dry, which I've been trying to get away from in an effort to really maintain my hair to the best of my ability by going to ""nice salons"". But, if the service is worse, and more expensive, I think I'll go back to the generic shops. Apart from that I seem to have lost part of my hairline. A two-inch long strip of hair is now gone at the hairline, which will take years to grow back and render me almost unable to just put on a headband and go. In the grand scheme of things a little lost hair and a burn are not really a big deal, but this was totally unexpected and unpleasant. I did e-mail the salon, but never heard back. more

I wish i could give them TEN stars!!!! i have been going to the same hairdresser for 6 years and was skeptical about going to someone new especially for something as complex as a brazillian blow out. But boy was i ever so wrong! i wish i knew about this place sooner!! I came out of there feeling so content and happy with my new hair! They were so courteous and answered all my question and concerns about this new procedure that i was so nervous in getting. If you ever go there, ask for Karlo, i was there for a couple of hours and he made me feel so comfortable. he was so attentive to my needs and thouroughy explained the whole procedure and how to maintian it fresh longer. Loved it and would recommend it to everybody..... more

I made an appointment for a free consultation and ended up with a cut and color. The staff greeted me at the door with a warm smile. Everyone was attentive and made me feel very comfortable. Then I met with Leslie and she was so nice and genuinely happy to talk with me. After talking with her, she seemed to know exactly what I needed to do. I decided right then to have the work done right away. \r \r All of the staff was so nice. The atmosphere in the salon was relaxed and comfortable. As clients came in, they were friendly and clearly happy to be in the salon and I knew I made the right choice.\r \r Leslie gave me great color and gave me a wonderful cut. My hair looks great. I've been getting my hair done at Salon Santa Cruz ever week for eight years. Evelyn is my stylist and truly understands my needs and makes me look beautiful. I get soooooo many compliments all the time about the healthy look of my hair. I went from very damage relax hair to a healthy hair in a short time. She truly understand the technology of a Woman's hair. Evelyn is energetic, friendly, sooo talented, sweet and professional at all times. It does not matter how long you have been a client, she is always very thorough in her explanations. I've been going to Salon Santa Cruz for almost 5 years (yikes!) The first time I went to get corrective coloring after a botched bleach job. Katya completely saved my hair and gave me the exact color I wanted. After going to her for a couple of years as a blonde, I decided I couldn't stand the maintenance of being bleach-blonde and needed a change. Katya completely transformed my hair so that I could keep the length I loved, maintain my hair’s health, and still keep enough highlights in my hair to feel like a blonde. I can’t tell you how often I get stopped and people compliment my hair. Kayta is a miracle worker! I won’t let anyone else touch my hair color. Salon Santa Cruz has a great atmosphere, and the friendliest staff of any salon I’ve ever been to. I always look forward to going there and know it will be a great experience. Highly recommended!!! I've lived in the city for 10 years and paid anywhere from 12 to 200 for a haircut and never left happy. Finally I am compelled to write a review (the first and maybe only review i've written). As a guy with thick curly hair I have gotten too many bad haircuts from people who don't know how to deal with thick or longer hair. Catya from Santa Cruz on the contrary knows exactly what she is doing. She can give a haircut that is not the ""average guy"" look that you can wear to the office and out at night. She is fun and extremely talented. I have now gotten 2 cuts from her and will never go to anyone else. more

I was very impressed by the relaxing, professional atmosphere. As a professional woman, I don't need another headache. Salon Santa Cruz is a place where I can listen to relaxing music and enjoy a clean, comfortable salon. I also enjoy the personal attention I get and there is never a line of people in front of me. I don't go to many salons because I'm afraid to take the risk of someone messing up my hair. I have tight curls and lots of hair. The few times I have gone to salon I've went by recommendation of friends. They swear by Dominican salons and I have seen the magic those places have done, but never with my head of hair. They make my hair look awful, they can NEVER do a good blow-dry, sometimes looks like a bad wig. \r \r I was able to get some certificates for Alfangi Salon, at what I thought was a great deal. I came here to read the reviews, NEVER GO THERE! SO I wasted $50 on that. Well, I continued my search and found Salon Santa Cruz. After reading all the reviews I decided to take the risk knowing it may be pricier than the Dominican salons. \r \r I do not regret going. My hair was colored, cut and blown. They did have trouble combing my hair, as do all salons, but they were patient, kind, and funny. And after hrs my hair looks fantastic. I did pay ALOT in my view, but I do have ALOT of hair. I saw here I could of gotten a discount because I'm a student. OOps. \r \r My Boyfriend is impressed, my friends are in love with my hair, and they all planning dates that they have free to schedule an appointment. \r \r Just wish it wasn't pricey, but the hair does look like a million dollars. \r \r PS. I was only in New York for a couple of days and I have to say that my experience at Santa's Salon was just amazing. Everybody was so attentive and I only realized afterwards that Santa herself did my haircut. She is simply an artist and I felt like cinderella when I saw my new look - now I go back to Europe and everybody will be jealous :-)\r Thanks again for everything!!! more

This was my first time at Salon Santa Cruz, and I loved every minute of it! As soon as I walked in I knew I was going to have a great experience. I met with my FABULOUS stylist Leslie, she asked me what I wanted and offered some suggestions to fix my badly dyed hair. She gave me the best haircut I have ever had, and she made it feel like I was visiting an old friend - she is soo talented, sweet and funny! My hair is curly , and Leslie gave me a cut that looks great curly or straight.\r The salon was very clean and professional, and I felt very well taken care of. I also have to mention the great head and neck massage I received as I was getting my hair washed - I'm still dreaming about it!\r My hair feels and looks so healthy, and I have been getting compliments all day.
