Can't beat the price 8/14/2006

Maybe the cheapest sandwich in town? For about $2.50, you totally have your lunch - and the sandwich is on this really NICE French roll - with your choice of meat, shredded carrots, hot peppers, and cilantro - with a tasty sauce. I leave off the hot pepper and cilantro and it is still good. Friendly service, with some other food options that look promising. Just don't go here if you're stuck on American-style sandwiches/food because this is NOT what they do. Cheers for an affordable sandwich! Pros: Cheap, authentic, and easy-to-transport Cons: Not a lot of different sandwich fixin's, very small seating area more

a daily must have 6/10/2006

You must get one of these sandwiches. Get the roast pork. I'm not crazy about the fancy pork, its sort of jellied. Pros: 2 seats, cheap Cons: crack heads outside more

So much for so little! 4/13/2006

I just can't get enough of this place. I walked in at 11:30am on a Thursday and just barely beat having to stand in a long line. I saw that the sandwiches were priced at $2.50 (one was a quarter less and one was a quarter more), so I assumed that they had to be small so I got two. Now, for the larger American you might actually need two, but for a guy that eats moderately this six inch sandwich was stuffed with meat and other goodness. I definitely couldn't get through the second sandwich. You get your money's worth. The spring rolls are also made fresh daily and are delicious! Pros: Cheap good food, Lots more cheap eats Cons: Line, Small store more

The best value for lunch/snack 1/17/2006

At last, I have found a place where i absulutely LOVE the banh minh! The most expensive sandwichs are just $2.50 and they sure fill you up! Tried the siu mai, roast pork and a combination sandwich and they were all terrific! You HAVE to try their drinks too. The brown drink with longan and kombu(seaweed) was amazing! And it was so cheap! The only thing is the line, but not to worry, the two ladies will get to you in no time! Pros: Inexpensive, delicious Cons: cash only, crowded more

Wow, can't believe this place 12/30/2005

I have heard about this place for years. Was going to a movie nearby so stopped by. For $2.50 I got a great sandwich. Great place to go if you must pay for luch with laundry money. more

New Addiction 12/13/2005

I'm always in search of my new food addiction and I've just found it with these yummie little sandwiches. The warmed soft rolls are filled with your choice of meat (5 spice chicken, perfect roast pork, meat balls, etc.) and accompanied by fresh cilantro, peppers, marinated onions and carrotts, all combining to make a very memorable experience. I can't wait to get back to this place. more

Inexpensive sandwiches to go 10/5/2005

When I'm around the Civic Center area (like for jury duty!), I make a point to stop by Saigon Sandwich Shop for lunch or some sandwiches to go. The BBQ chicken & meatball sandwiches are favorites in our family. The combo is a bit heavy with pork and pate but very filling. For under $3, the sandwiches are a bargain, filled w/jalapeno peppers, marinated carrot slivers and cilantro. If you like your coffee strong, the Vietnamese coffee here will satisfy you. Try some of the other counter specialties. They have these banana leaf wrapped rice specialties, some filled with sweet coconut & sesame seeds, another long pan-fried one with coconut and beans and yet another sticky rice paste filled w/meat. Life's short, be adventurous! Pros: inexpensive, fast Cons: parking difficult, crowded at lunch hour more

Dirt Cheap Eats! 11/9/2004

Wow...2.25 for an Excellent Sandwich. I think part of the wow factor of this place is the price! My first experience trying Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwiches) I have tried the Chicken, Roast Pork, and the meat ball pork(xiu mai). My favorites are the Roast Pork and the Chicken. One sandwich is definitely filling, but if you get two, you will definitely be stuffed. They put lots of meat in there along with some sort of vinegar seasoned carrots, cilantro, which is key, and a couple slices of jalapenos for some heat. Be careful sometimes, there might be too many jalapeno seeds in there, so open it up and check, unless you like it hot! Also try the thai ice tea in a bottle which is pretty good. Pros: Dirt Cheap Eats, Excellent Sandwich more

This is Banh Mi Perfection 2/27/2004

I have been in search of the PERFECT Vietnamese. sandwich in California for years always to be disappointed. Then a friend took me to Saigon Sandwich and I have to say that my search has ended! The Sui Mai sandwich is THE PERFECT Banh Mi!! What else would make 15 strangers waiting for what seems like forever in silence watching the little lady behind the counter do her magic - yes, it's THAT GOOD. Pros: Excellent Sandwiches, Inexpensive, Authentic more

Talking about value! 6/11/2003

I had meatball (shiou mai?) The loose ground pork was slightly sweet, and flavorful. Lots of jalapenos and cilantros. Love it. The bread is soft inside, and great crunch at the crust. Loved it! more

Recovering from two Banh Mi... 4/7/2003

But it was worth it! Stopped by Saigon Sandwich for a pork and roasted chicken sandwich and just wolfed them down. Very good french roll with a crisp chewy outside. Some thinly sliced meat, marinated radish/carrots, cilantro, jalapenos and some sauce (nuoc nam? mayonnaise?), you've got yourself a delicious meal! Quite a few Vietnamese people were there, so I'm assuming it's fairly authentic. And a great bargain, $4.25 for two belly busting sandwiches. Pros: Delish Sandwiches, Great value Cons: Little seating, Edge of Tenderloin more

Helluva Sammich 3/26/2003

The line of people out the door of this place is evidence enough that the sandwiches are delicious. There are only 2 little chairs for the window counter, and unfotunately, street people have a tendency to harass the line. However, if you can get past that, you are in for a very fine meal. Be sure to grab a drink before paying and I recommend the little pre-wrapped Vietnamese appetizers, I had some dumpling thing and it was real yummy Pros: inexpensive, delicious, differrent Cons: street people outside, small place, lunch rush more
