Do not stand behind work 4/17/2011

Replaced my roof 4 years ago. There is a leak in it which took time to make it's way through the plywood, attic, insulation and now through the ceiling. They will not fix it even know their contract says the job included a 10 year guarantee. Looks like I am not the only one consumer.westchestergov com/renegade-renovators more

Roofing Police/Roofing Squad/Brick City are thieves 3/5/2011

I called Roofing Police to do gutter cleaning and to remove gutter guards that another unscrupulous contractor had told me were buckled and needed to be removed. Patrick and Raul came out. Patrick said my gutter guards were fine except that they were not properly secured to the shingle. He gave me a price to repair which was more than two times what I had anticipated. But I was so sick of dealing with theiving contractors, I just wanted the work done and them gone. Then Patrick said some of my gutter guards were missing. I told him I had picked up 2 from the yard. I gave him one, but unfortunately couldn't find the second one (found it after he left). Patrick told me that 7 gutter guards were missing (how did he not notice that before he gave me the quote). He said Roofing police would charge me $20.00 a piece to replace them. He said they cost $13.00 each at home depot but he would replace them - on the side - for $50.00. Turns out that the gutter guards cost under $2.00 each at the Home Depot. Also, only 2 of the gutter guards had blown off, not 7. I thought Patrick was the thief and I was going to report him to the company, but upon reading this review I realize the entire company and workers are thieves. I learned a valuable (though very expensive) lesson: Never have work done the same time you get an estimate. Take time to research and discuss with neighbors and friends. More importantly, research the company. HAd I seen these reviews I would not have used them. more

Reliable, and gets the job done right! 1/26/2011

I had a bad leak in a recently installed roof from some previous roofer, I called the Roofing Police, they were there the next day determined what the problem was and fixed the leaks,. They were very professional, quick and clean. I am extremely satisfied with their work and pricing. I would highly recommend them to everyone, wish I had found them sooner!!! more

Quality work and rapid response 1/25/2011

I called and they came on time as promised. When they got to my commercial building they knew just what the problem was with the roof. I agreed to to the price and the work was started the next day. I've owned this building for 24 years and had many roofing companies try to fix my roof right. These guys were the only ones to offer to me what was the proper solution. These guys are professional and knowledgable. I wish I knew these guys before I had spent the money on three roofs, quality work is alway worth every penny. I feel like I was given a great job at a fair price. I would highly recommend! more

BEWARE! I will be reporting them to BBB and the police 1/19/2011

I scheduled for a Chimney Sweep and they came quickly. John the owner called me and said I needed to install a liner in my chimney. He scared my mother and uncle that they will die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Mind you, I have carbon monoxide detectors everywhere and they never go off. He tells me his pitch and how I need to spend $2000 right now. I told him I'm not going to be in the neighborhood anytime soon and he tells me we can't discuss it on Saturday because he can't get a permit(WHAT?). He further tries to scare us with carbon monoxide poisoning and the chimney falling apart and damaging the neighbor's property. I make an emergency trip back home because I don't know what he did...at this point I'm very worried because it was becoming apparent that he is a scam artist. When I got home the boiler was on and everything seemed fine. I wake up the next morning and find that the water was a little colder than usual. It turns out my hot water was running out because HE HAD SHUT IT OFF! He has no right to shut it off! I turned it back on, no problem. I inspect the boiler a bit more and see that the flue vent connector wasn't properly placed. THE SEAMS WERE OPEN & COULD'VE VENTED CARBON MONOXIDE! I immediately turned off the furnace and took the connector off. What do I see inside my chimney? IT WAS NEVER CLEANED! Why did I pay these guys? It's a good thing I'm a licensed engineer and boiler operator and I knew how to fix these or I would've called him for immediate and expensive help. JOHN, THE OWNER WANTED A CALL BACK FOR THE PROBLEMS HE CREATED! I should have researched the company before I contracted them to clean my chimney. Had I done so, I would've seen these terrible reviews and steered clear of them. Upon further research, I found that these guys go by other names. Good workers n good job 12/12/2010

i have use the roofing police on dec 2, we had a very bad roof, it was 20 years old, they ripped it and put a new one very fast, 2 days it was done ! They explain everything to me and gave me a 30 year warranty. They gave me good price, wasnt the cheapest but wasnt the most expensive either, but i knew that they would do a good job. My father was a police officer and had him talk to the owner that is a police officer too and was very happy with everything too. I would recommend the roofing police all the way ! more

WARNING-DON'T USE THEM!!!!! 11/28/2010

In April of 2010, I paid The Roofing Police for a permit to repair a roof at my residence. I was assured that the permit was paid for and that their company would take care of everything prior to completion of the work. The roof was repaired and all services were satisfied (with the exception of stained ceiling tiles in the back hallway as a result of a leak AFTER the work was completed-which by the way they have yet to replace after me telling them about it 3 times) On or about September 27th 2010, I received notification from the Township of Cranford stating that they did not receive payment for the permit. I spoke with John (the owner of The Roofing Police) and he told me that it was an oversight and that the issue would be resolved immediately. He did in fact resolve the permit issue and an official permit was issued on 9/27/2010. On September 29th 2010 however I received notification that the building permit was “NOT APPROVED”. I called John and notified him of the situation and he said he would take care of it. When I didn’t hear back from him after a few weeks, I called 2 more times until finally I called the Township of Cranford to inform them that I had made numerous attempts to contact The Roofing Police, no one had returned my call and I was concerned about receiving a fine. The Township of Cranford contacted John and said that he was aware of the situation and he would be working with someone from the Township to assess what needed to be done so as to pass inspection. I have still yet to hear from The Roofing Police regarding what their intent is to pass inspection and to resolve the issue. At this point I don’t expect the 4 ceiling tiles to be replaced. I just want to pass inspection and to avoid any fines. In summary, I laughed when I read the other review on The Roofing Police because that customer was spot on. John's quote was WAY lower when I first agreed to have him do the work but then his workers said that I needed a new chimney stack down to the roof-line. Though they did an excellent job on that, my furnace people said there was a bucket full of bricks and cement in my furnace in the basement plus they never cleaned out the mess in the living room. I was warned about using this company but thought the complaints weren't true. I wish I had listened!!!! John the owner refuses to contact me like the other review stated and I feel as though I was WAAAAAAY overcharged for the work. Plus technically I still haven't passed inspection so I'm in fear that I will be fined, but I can't get John to resolve the issue. I would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, refer anyone to this company. This is no way to run a business!!!!!!!!!!! more

Would I use Roofing Police again? NO 11/27/2010

The Roofing Police: We called the Roofing Police when we discovered a small leak in my mother’s roof that was doing damage to the ceiling in an upstairs bedroom. My was father a longstanding member of the PBA and Police Officer before his death. The Roofing Police advertise themselves as PBA members as well. The owner John came out and inspected the roof and chimney, only to discover a worse problem in the chimney; a disintegrated aluminum liner installed improperly years ago. To their credit, they resolved a dangerous and neglected situation that our oil burner guy missed. I was quoted prices for the various repairs and work began right away. During the installation process of the new chimney liner, it was discovered that our fireplace in the living room was built long before current building codes and blocked the opening to the basement oil burner. The owner called me to say that it was going to cost an additional thousand dollars to complete the job originally priced at $2200. I was somewhat confused about the explanation of the extra charge, thinking the fireplace flu, not the oil burner flu, was part of the new fee. Being a day before Thanksgiving and having no heat in the home and my 84 year old sick mother, ironically stricken with an outbreak of shingles, sitting in the cold, I had little room to argue the price and suddenly had that “hijacked’ feeling in my gut. Had I not been under such duress, I would have never agreed to his fees. His crew was able to remove bricks inside the fireplace with a hammer and chisel, taking about 2 additional hours. The thousand dollar surcharge was outrageous. I think the owner John uses any unseen problem as an excuse to up the price. One of the roof estimates I was told would include tearing off the old shingles, checking the plywood sheathing underneath, and then put a new roof on. Instead, they simply went over the existing roof with new shingles, a much easier job then I was billed for. When the job was completed, I paid the original price contracted. Less than an hour later I get a very irate call from John who proceeded to give me a thorough tongue lashing for not including the extra $1000 fee. It was an unfortunate display of arrogance and disrespect to me, the customer, for not including the additional fee. . I thought that considering the time expended to solve the problem that the cost was a bit exorbitant. He refused to negotiate and demanded full payment. Reluctantly, I paid him. I felt conned. One of the workers said he needed more parts than were billed for and I had to buy an extra chimney cap and a clean out door at the base of the chimney. He needed $215 in reimbursement, in cash! My final costs were over $8,200 dollars for about 2 and half days work. It was an unfortunate ending all around and ruined the relationship. Overall, the jobs got done but I was over billed on several counts. I also had somehow misplaced my copy of the original work order, left in plain view on my mothers desk, and asked for a replacement copy for my records. I have not gotten any response even after my mother called him to e-mail me the receipt. I guess we are not getting the copy now for spite. My next step is to place a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. Despite the satisfactory outcome of the job done, I would not recommend them to anyone I know because of the indignant, bullying and unethical behavior by the owner and the use of a classic bait and switch tactic to up the price in the middle of a weather/time sensitive job. Don't trust these guys to be straight with you. PS One of the workers used a bathroom during the operations and I have not been able to unclog it yet! R. Layton Long Branch, NJ more

Would I use Roofing Police again? - YES. 10/11/2010

I had the Roofing Police do my roof, I have many quotes and they were in the middle and doing all the work that had to be done. They were amazing, had a partial tare-off of the roof and had the whole roof done in 2 days with about 10 guys! I had a few small issue that they came right back and fixed. Also there clean up was great. Thank you John and your Team! Rob Carson more
