Always have had a good experience at Ron Peterson's. If you are a fluffer-nutter in a hurry on your lunch hour, stay away--your frenzied impatience harshes the real customers' mood. If you are looking for that hard to find ammo, or something you've never seen before (like a .22 caliber AK-47!) Ron's is the place to go. If you are looking for black powder arms and ""possibles"" at decent prices, it's Ron Peterson's again. If you just want to grab something and go, try Wal-Mart or Caliber's; Ron Petersons is where the long-time residents go because they don't get hurried like they do at the ""Yuppie"" places like Sportsman's(which isn't very ""sporting"" at all!!!) more

I've been there many time. I've had bad experiences there almost always. I could write an obnoxious bad review but settled on something more constructive for this store. We all WANT it to be good?but it isn't. Firstly, the owner Ron Peterson, has let the inmates run the asylum. The people that work there have driven the business into the ground. Their primary customer base are collectors 65 + years old. They treat younger clients like garbage. They have NO interest in acquiring new dedicated customers, only keeping the old lonely men happy. When they die off, they will have no dedicated customers. Best of luck Ron Petersons, you have burt your bridge with me multiple times and I've had it. Keep your guns. more

Horrible service if you go on a busy day no one will help you unless you have a gun in your hand. you can stand around and wait for someone to help you and they will just stare at you and walk right by and start helping someone else. prices are okay depending on what your looking at. all around though i would recommend this place to my friends or family. Ive had people roll their eyes at me there and almost every time i got to the register to pay for something the lady at the desk gives me dirty looks. save yourself some time and money and shop somewhere else. and there buy back prices are horrible i took in a gun i have that Ive seen sell on the internet for close to 800 dollars and they told me they couldn't give me more than 50. that is ridiculous either they are ripping people off or they really don't know there stuff which they should right i mean its a gun shop its what they do for a living. and for first time buyers, you'd be better off looking up different guns and local gun shops in the area. i feel like they don't really help you they just ask what your looking at then tell you about that gun. there's no real input on similar guns you might like unless its more expensive than the one your already looking at. more

Worst staff ever. Called and asked if they had a certain item. Person who answer gave a very confident ""Yes MANY!"" I went down to purchase this item the very same day. Not one of the brainiacs even tried to find what I was asking for. They didn t attempt to search for the item. They basically said it was my fault for not remembering the person s name who answered the phone. Five guys standing around seemingly extremely happy that they did NOT make a sale. Are there any better firearms dealers in Albuquerque... Yes MANY! more

Ron Peterson's overall is a great place to shop. Yes, there are a couple of old grouches on the floor, but most of the employees are very helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. They even give blow pops to the kids; after asking parent's permission. Sometimes you will have to wait a while when it's busy, but I usually wait much longer at Sportsmen's and Wal-Mart. And most of the time the big superstores have young kids with no working knowledge of firearms at the counter. RP's Firearms is my favorite store period! more

Strike out 4/23/2012

I had been here three times. Bad experience all three times. I figured the first two were a fluke but after three times I have to review it. The first time I went there because I use an oil called ballistol. Their website said Peterson's was a retailer. I went and they were out. I asked an old man if they sold it and he said yes but they were out. I asked he knew if they were getting it soon, he rolled his eyes and said, ""what do you think I'm psychic, I don't know when it could come it could be anytime."" I found this answer unacceptable so I started leaving. He starts backtracking and saying something like you gotta understand I blah blah blah. I say you gotta understand I'm ordering on amazon and I'll have it on tuesday. So a little time passes and I want to grab something. This place is by my work and it is convenient so I take the dive and stop back in. I get what I need and I get in line. There is one girl working at one register with at least 50 people in the store. This seems a little unbalanced. She is working on a FFL transfer. She kept having problems, making mistakes and she wouldn't even look at me. I'm just standing there with my merchandise and my cash visible in hand, waiting for someone to ring me out. After about 15 minutes of waiting she said that she needed a second opinion on something she will be rite back. I put my stuff on the counter and leave. So again today I stop by and try to buy the same things. I get in line and wait. Again five minutes pass and no help. I am waiting in front of an employee and he is helping a guy. After he was done helping him, the employee said bring it to her (the girl working the register) and she will lighten your wallet a bit. So that guy cuts in front of me in line then the employee that should have asked me if I needed help sees some guy walking by, calls him by name and just starts small talk with him. Again I leave with nothing and I vow to never return. Just save yourself a bunch on time and energy, go somewhere else. This place cannot handle any new customers. more

Rudest staff, Bad information.... 1/10/2012

I stand by my my remarks , the last two vists there about twelve months apart, absolutely black and white bad information and rude service staff, twice. take your biz somewhere else. more

Petersons firearms / Best in town 11/9/2011

Need a firearm? Ron;s is the best in town. No store is great all the time There's more often than not.\r \r Great deals. more

'other' stuff 10/18/2011

Ron's is best for buying stuff that you cant find except on line. M1 Carbine mags, or mil spec mags like for my Bushmaster .308. I traded up for some replacement grips on one of my .44 mag Vaquero after I broke the other ones shooting Remington magnum ammo. Ron pulled some buffalo grips off of a Vaquero he had and I paid $30 for 'em; on line they run around $80. Most gun places low ball trade ins in Albuquerque, even if they sell 'em on consignment they want to move the piece, not sit on it. Buy long guns n shot guns at Walmart, they got the best deals. Sportsmans has great deals on pistols but might not carry your brand. more

Worst rip off in town. 9/1/2011

Big fat guy with curly hair is about as friendly as a rattle snake, their cashier is a land whale that can't add, and their ""trade in"" policy is a complete rip off. Not to mention that Mel guy is a complete d bag. The only ones I can stand being around are Tom, and Castanza. They're the only two in there that know wtf they're doing. They wouldn't take my gun because I put velcro on the ejection port to protect the valuable internals from brass dings, another time they called me an out right liar when I took my Pre-89 SA85M in there to sell. claiming that I converted it all while looking at me with money symbols in their eyes. They use a ""blue book"" which is basically a scam artists guide to ripping the ignorant off. Everyone else in town has joined the 21st century and uses the internet. Their guns are mostly beat up used pieces of crap, which are more than likely stolen gang pieces if what everyone else in town says about ron is true. the good stuff gets picked before it gets logged in by the ""friends of ron"" Their store is unorganized, and the salesmen in there often try to force a particular model down your throat even though you dont want it. Peterson's is the worst gun store in town, and I can't wait until the ATF finally shuts them down for being so shady. more

Buyers market 9/1/2011

I've been looking for a couple of pistols to add to my collection while trimming down some of the fat. I took a bunch with me around town to have them appraised for trade in value towards guns in stock. At Ron's, one guy showed me some pistols, one guy explained their trade in policy, and another guy valued the guns I brought in. Ron's low balled me like I couldn't believe. Half to a third less than any other store I went into, seemed more like a pawn shop than a gun shop in terms of trade in value. At some places I got two values, trade and selling it to them. Ron's was generally equivalent to what I would get if I tried to just sell them to any other store. I did ask to make sure I was getting a trade in quote. I also noticed their pistol prices are relatively higher. Maybe they thought I was uneducated or retarded when it comes to firearms. Or maybe it's the economy and everyone is selling or trading their guns instead of buying. I don't think Ron's is a bad place. I just know there are a lot better places to go where you will get more bang for your trade in and prices are better. So I know I won't ever do business here. The customer service is pretty standard to any gun shop I've ever been in. Their selection of used guns is great, new guns not so great (why I'm thinking they would offer me so little, they don't need any more used guns, even though mine have never been out of their boxes). So I chose the 1 star of ""EH"" rather than anything more than that which says it's ""good."" more

Personal service and good prices 2/19/2011

If you are in the market for a new or used firearm and want a knowledgeable person to help you, go to Ron Petersons. I went to Sportsmans Warehouse earlier in the day and had the same, RUDE, service I always seem to get there. I guess I wasn't dressed like a rich person, so the salesman hustled me through a couple items then walked away. I only go to Sportsmans about once every two years and now i wonder why I go at all. They judged the book by the cover and lost a sale. I continued on to Charlies and Ron Petersons and spent over $400 on weapons and supplies. Just because a guy has some spots on his T-shirt doesn't mean he doesn't have cash in his wallet. more

Ron Peterson Firearms 9/14/2009

Well, i am a new gun adventurer, my knowledge base if very limited. The Staffing at Ron's definatl'y from what i experienced, offer honest opinon's and know a tremendous amount about all makes and models. The Inventory they have is amazing, ""NO other gun store has the type of selection they have"" and from my tight budget, the pricing compared to precision or Charlie's is a huge difference, very very low markup on gun pricing... Definatly save your time looking for deals, they have the DEAL... Louis Pros: Hands down Largest Selection And Best Prices more
