Got to hotel a little before 9p; keep in mind that Whites City is really, really small and the sidewalks roll up at 9p. If you want something to eat, you’d better get to town by about 8.30p or you will have to drive 20 minutes up the road to Carlsbad. Room was clean and quite large. TV was antiquated, but we didn't come here to watch TV, so who really cares. However, lots of channels considering the remote location. The beds were fine and the hotel was quiet on the night we spent there during spring break. Decor was dated and room was a bit worn out, but like I said, it was clean. The only issue was that the bathroom door wouldn't close. We only paid $95 on Expedia for a room with 2 queen beds. Considering you are only a ten minute drive from a major national part, I consider this a very good value\r \r more

Friendly 6/6/2013

Staff that we saw were all friendly and helpful. Room was big and clean with table and chairs, fridge, coffee pot (I washed it before use), microwave, and choice of ground floor or second floor - all outside door rooms. Shower was clean with plenty of towels. Breakfast is choice of two kinds of packaged muffins and a 4 oz. carton of orange juice. The only restaurant in "town" is a short walk, but closes early, more

Good value 5/29/2013

This hotel is good value for visiting the Carlsbad Caverns as compared to the hotels located in Carlsbad. Saves time to drive from Carlsbad. Room is spacious and clean. However, don't expect too much from the continental breakfast they serve. more

Pleasantly surprised 5/21/2013

I was leaving the park after dark, after watching the bat flight, and other people there told me that Hotels in Carlsbad were all booked up and expensive, so I was getting a bit worried. This hotel was on the edge of the park in a little one street town, so I stopped in expecting the worst, but they had a room, and after tax was 90. I was pleasantly surprised at the size, I don't think I've ever seen a non luxury room that big. Since you are kind of in the middle of nowhere, it was very quiet - had a great sleep. It's a bit older, nothing is new or shiny, could use a buff up, but to the best of my knowledge, it's the only hotel in the area.. There is no breakfast, but there is a mediocre restaurant beside it. more

Clean and comfortable 5/16/2013

A travelers rest stop without the bells and whistles of a full service hotel. If you want that then pay the bigger bucks. If you want a clean, comfortable room for a night and want it at a fair rate then this will be just the thing. Very close to CCNP so you can make the most of a day visit there. more

Clean 5/10/2013

My two grown children & I spent 4 nights here. Our 2nd floor was roomy with an A-frame roof (looks larger than the 8 ft roof on the 1st floor). The room was clean and the air-conditioner was so cold I had to turn it off. When you take into account the motel is only 7 miles from Carlsbad Caverns visitor center, just the gas savings coming and going from the city of Carlsbad it worth it. The ic machine did happen to be broken, but there was ice for sale at the store 100 yards across the street. Very good restaurant just about 80 yards down the road. The counter personnel were very kind and cooperative. more

Convenient location 5/7/2013

Since I was hiking in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, this was the closest lodging being between 28-35 miles to trailheads in the park. Staying in lodging in Carlsbad, NM would have added ca. 20 miles. As Motel 6 devotee, most other lodging chains have more amenities which was true with Rodeway Inn. I had no problems. Eating choices at White's City are between the convenience store, i.e., grocery store, across the street from the motel or the Velvet Garter Bar and Saloon a block north of the motel. I thought the Chef's salad was pretty good and I had it twice. Ventured into Carlsbad for 3 meals at Red Chimney BBQ, very smoky BBQ, but bland sides, Trinity Hotel, again bland food and Danny's BBQ, well smoked with a nice glaze and BBQ sauces. For a $.20 premium per gallon gasoline is available in a White's City Shell. Between White's City and El Paso there is a gas station at Dell City, which Guadulupe Mountain rangers recommended Sister Angel, but is open daily from 6-8P only. more

Great rooms+ 5/1/2013

Rooms were very large with high ceilings on the second floor. Clean and safe environment. So glad we didn't stay as far as the town of Carlsbad for a fancy hotel. The small water park made this little stop-over a perfect place to see the bats leave the cavern in the evening and then explore caverns in the morning. The food at Carlsbad excellent. Food at the only restaurant in Whites City...not so much! Definitely try the local made Cherry Cider at the store in Whites City. more

Thank you 4/23/2013

As for the location, it's just down the road from the Caverns, which you probably already know if you're looking up hotels in Whites City in the first place. There's only one restaurant in the town (that magically changes from "diner with limited options" for breakfast/lunch to "diner with different limited options in a different section of the building" for dinner). The food is good, though! Better than one would expect from a restaurant in a town with only one restaurant. more

Huge rooms 4/19/2013

The rooms are huge, and all the standard amenities are included. It might not be clean enough to pose as an "after" shot in a Swiffer commercial, sure, but it's hardly a place to be warned away from more

Fine place 4/17/2013

I tried to convince my friend to stay in Carlsbad (20-30 minutes away from the Caverns) after reading the reviews here, but he insisted that it wouldn't be that bad, and would be worth it for the location, location, location. I'm glad I cave. This hotel was a perfectly fine place to stay while visiting Carlsbad Caverns! It was even worth the "I told you so" glance I received as I proclaimed that it wasn’t bad at all. more
