I was leaving the park after dark, after watching the bat flight, and other people there told me that Hotels in Carlsbad were all booked up and expensive, so I was getting a bit worried. This hotel was on the edge of the park in a little one street town, so I stopped in expecting the worst, but they had a room, and after tax was 90. I was pleasantly surprised at the size, I don't think I've ever seen a non luxury room that big. Since you are kind of in the middle of nowhere, it was very quiet - had a great sleep. It's a bit older, nothing is new or shiny, could use a buff up, but to the best of my knowledge, it's the only hotel in the area.. There is no breakfast, but there is a mediocre restaurant beside it.
