Terrible Experience! 9/19/2010

There was a group of 14 that went to this pub for a batchlorette Party. When we go there they did not have table set up for us after we made a reservation weeks before and we called the night before to confirm. After 20 minutes they then set up a table to fit the group. Our waitress then took our drink order, skipping over several of the girls. Some of these girls did not get their drink order placed until after they were served their meal. Then we all placed out meal. When the meals came out 12 our of the 14 meals were incorrect. Thinks were missing and order were incorrect. One girl only ordered a side salad which she did not receive until everyone had finished their meals and when she received the salad it was incorrect. At this point we were completely baffled by the service. The waitress did not ONCE come over to ask if we wanted a second drink or to see how our food was. We had to ask whatever waitress was around to get us a drink or attempt to get the missing/incorrect food. We presented our concern to the manager on duty who paid little to no attention to our HORRIBLE service/experience. When all was said and done we received the bill listed at the end was "gratuity added" The restaurant had the NERVE to add 20% gratuity to the bill.. We understood gratuity was going to be added but 20% for a waitress that screwed up almost everyones order along with completely ignoring us was outrageous! I would not recommend eating at the establishment. We had the worst experience every and I would NEVER go back to this restaurant again!!!! more

Fun pub with traditional Irish fare and entertainment 7/10/2007

Fun place, seems to have some sort of entertainment most nights. I've seen two bands. One was really good...the other was so-so. Seems to draw a good crowd. Friendly service. Menu has a good selection including plenty of traditional Irish pub fare. My favorite were the Irish potato cakes. Definitely worth a visit. This would be a good place for a date or to meet a group of friends. Pros: potato cakes, entertainment Cons: parking more

Good Times 10/7/2006

Food is quite good. My favorite is the flank steak in smithwicks. Fun and easygoing crowd. The age of customers ranges from 21-61. Can get busy on Fri. and Sat. nights with live rock music. Great Sun. afternoon place for traditional Irish music and sports. The staff is friendly and fun. Show up in a tux or ripped jeans, no one will be staring. Pros: Great crowd/staff, good drinks and food, great place to meet people Cons: can get crowded on weekends more

Go early avoid the crowd 9/24/2006

This place really has 2 identities, during the day and early evening it is a good mix of all ages, blue and white collar workers, families, and tourists. Later in the evening when the music starts it basically turns into a 21 year old college crowd with the line out the door. I have been to other locations in this chain, Portland ME, Burlington VT, and Atlantic City NJ, all seemed to be sedate in comparision to Providence. This location has live bands playing music which has nothing to do with the Irish theme the restaurant portrays which i am assuming is the reason for the young crowd. The other locations when I have visited usually had live Irish music or a acoustic guitarist or two not rock music and the mixed crowd remains consistent through out the day and evening. The food is average at best. The real problem is the layout of the rooms, it is divided into 3 areas. Each area is basically a room by itself completely walled off, you can not see the people in the other rooms without actually walking into them. It is not a conducive atmosphere to meet people. Pros: Reasonable prices Cons: Young crowd, layout of rooms, crowded more

great friday night hot spot. people are friendly and the atmosphere excellent. i liked to stew and off course the best irish ale anywhere 7/18/2006

rira is highly recommended . the staff goes out of its way to do everything for you. the food is great and the night life even better. i recommend the place to everyone. Pros: nighlife. food and drink are incredible more

Providence's Place to Be Seen 12/26/2002

The bar is great in every aspect. Great mix of old and young, white-collar and blue-collar, college kids and townies. Three bars in three sections/rooms. Lots of space to accomodate large crowds - which is a positive and negative depending on what you want. St. Patty's day here is the best in Providence - great mix of true Irish culture and celebrating. You can actually "meet" others here! Food is ok, but the Irish aren't known for their cuisine... True Irish folk are scattered throughout the crowd. Pros: large, friendly, good mix of people Cons: can get crowded more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Feel as though you're in County Mayo? That may be because much of Ri-Ra, from the floor underfoot to the decorations on the wall, was brought over in pieces from the homeland. And while the rowdy American crowd has perfected the festive pub attitude so revered in the mother country, one difference is worth noting: The rambling rooms of this reincarnation could probably hold five village populations.

    The Draw
When it comes to Irish imports, you need remember but one word: Guinness. Not only can you get it on tap at the bar, but a pint of the legendary stout shows up as an official appetizer on the food menu. And it doesn't end there. With main courses like beef and Guinness pie and Guinness-marinated tuna, apparently this brew is the chef's drink of choice as well.
