Upscale dining that isn't stuffy... 6/4/2007

Repast is my new favorite ""fine dining"" restaurant. Bacchanalia and the rest are wonderful once a year, but Repast is great upscale dining without the snobbery (and it's a bit more affordable, especially on Mondays with half-priced bottles of wine). I have eaten at Repast 4 times now. My second meal left something to be desired-- my sugar cane skewered scallops were overcooked and the quinoa was flavorless. However, my first and third meals were great-- the duck risotto was creamy and rich and the duck breast with nappa slaw and buckwheat pancake was wonderful (but you have to be sure to get a little bit of everything with each bite-- otherwise the slaw is overpowering and the pancake is bland). On my 4th visit, a large group went late-night and shared a variety of small plates. The cheese plate was to die for and came with marcona almonds. The fritto misto was good, but kind of crumbly-- bigger pieces of vegetables would probably work better. The foie gras hot dog was fun and unique, but more of a novelty than anything. The desserts have been fabulous on every visit-- my favorite is the dark chocolate terrine with pistachios and kosher salt-- wonderful combination. Pros: Half-priced bottles on wine on Mondays, Valet Cons: Outdoor seating is in the courtyard of residential lofts more

Amazing Experience! 1/25/2007

My boyfriend recently took me to Repast on my birthday and our expectations were greatly exceeded. We were seated promptly and both the hostess and our server greeted me ""Happy Birthday"" several times. My boyfriend had the french onion soup and salmon in grape leaves while I had the cheese plate and duck with risotto. The cheese plate was delicious and came with toast squares made with their own bread as well as marcona almonds, pomegranite, and three artisanal cheeses of generous portions. The onion soup was good but I am not much of a fan. The duck was the leanest and tastiest I've ever had and the risotto that accompanied it had plenty of escargot. The salmon was the most surprising, we've never tasted salmon quite like that! It came wrapped in grape leaves on top of an exotic grain salad, the taste was definitely mediterannean and amazing! The chef came out to talk to us and he was very down to earth and personable, he even cleared our plates for us. Then we were treated with an intermezzo of campari grapefruit sorbet with marinated kumquat. For dessert, we shared the chocolate terrine with sea salt, pistachios, and olive oil. It came out with a candle, which was a really nice touch. I could've done without the olive oil but it was definitely an interesting combination, the richness of the chocolate went well with the sea salt. Weeks later and I still cannot forget our outstanding dinner at Repast, I can't wait to return!! Next time, I want to try the Sweetwater 420 mussels and japanese cheesecake. Pros: romantic, great service, excellent food, valet parking Cons: I've heard it gets packed on the weekends, make a reservation! more

Above the Fray 12/30/2006

I have been a regular at Repast for several months after I found out about it from a friend. The chefs have crafted a delicious menu with understated elegance using impeccable ingredients. They have an incredible wine list with tons of personality. Definetly not your typical wines that find themselves on most of the fine dining restaurants in Atlanta. Monday is half off any bottle. What a deal considering the wines they carry. Look for great things from this place. They do an excellent job with Foie Gras, either cold or hot thats as good as any that I have had in France. I have eaten in the best restaurants all over the world and this place has a voice of its own. I took and party of six there last week and called ahead and asked the chefowner Joe for a tasting menu with wine pairings. We had an exceptional 5 course meal with a personal touch. His wine pairings were first rate. Pros: Cuisine, Wine List, Service Cons: N/A more

Love It!! 12/18/2006

This small restaurant is beyond great. From the drinks, to the appetizers, to the meal, all the way to the dessert, this food haven scores high marks. The chef is outstanding, this was our second time visiting and our second time meeting the chef. He puts so much effort in the food that's prepared, and is generally a really nice guy. Details on the food: I had the trout w/o the bacon---superb! My husband had the double lamb chops---genius! You can't miss with this one--support the independents and visit this restaurant! Pros: Excellent service, Outstanding Cuisine, Half Priced Bottles of Wine on Mondays Cons: Nothing! more

Heart and Soul 11/28/2006

My partner and I live in midtown and we had dinner at Repast last week. WOW !!what a great addition to the culinary scene in this town. Having lived in San Fran for the past 15 years, Repast is simply a great restaurant no matter where it is. The food is lovingly prepared and sourced, and the service is impeccable. The wine list is very well thought out with great value and personality. I look forward to being a part of this restaurants evolution. Pros: Chef Driven, Boutique Cons: N/A more

Taking Atlanta Up a Notch 11/23/2006

Repast is what a local restaurant should be. The bar serves up incredible drinks (one of the best Manhattans I've ever had). The food is very well made from mostly local ingredients, yet the menu doesn't boast about it. And then the food is fun. The foie gras and sweetbreads hot dog is so incredibly good. Pros: Great fun food, beautiful space Cons: hard to find more

THE BIG PICTURE 11/15/2006

I have been a regular at Repast since I first dined there six months ago. It is interesting to see all the reviews that have been posted about this small gem of a restaurant that has only been open for 9 months or so. That in itself speaks volumes. Why would anyone not want to support an small independent chef driven restaurant that works hard and cares about the guests experience and the food they serve? It has been a pleasure to be a part of Repast's evolution. They have been recognized nationally by Esquire magazine and the Wine Spectator as as one of the best new restuarants in America on the forefront of the emerging culinary scene in Atlanta. CONGRATS TO THE REPAST TEAM, YOU DESERVE IT!!!!! Pros: cuisine, service, cocktails, decor, value more

Ate it...... LOVED it! 11/15/2006

What a beautiful restaurant. I read about this place in Esquire magazine and went in with reservations because I am a food snob. The Atlanta restaurant scene has very little to offer and, being from New York, I am used to the best cuisine in the US. Go to this place. It was jam packed on a Tuesday night. The Salmon was cooked to perfection. So few places in this town understand that a fish like salmon should be served medium rare to medium. I loved everything about this restaurant. Cheers to Esquire for recognizing that some people still try to innovate in a town where very few people understand that they have a palate or even the meaning of the word. Make reservations. I went in without one and wish that I would have called ahead. Pros: Killer Food, Service, Great Room. Cons: A busy restaurant on a Tuesday is not really a bad thing. more

Repast to Repeat 11/14/2006

I dined at Repast last week after hearing how good it was from a food snob friend of mine who is hard to please an often dissapoointed with the Atlanta dining scene. As much as I hate hearing him expound on the Mary MacTea Room dining mentality of most Atlantans, he is right about Repast. This is a unique restaurant that delivers a hgh quality experience. Definetly not your big box burn-um and turn-um restaurant that permeates alot of the so called ""great dining scene"" in Alanta. This is a small chef driven restaurant with alot of heart. The cooking does not rely on portion size, fat or salt to give substance. It is innovative, clean and delicious. A diamond in the rough. Pros: decor, food, service more

Great experience 11/14/2006

My husband took me to REpast for my birthday. The food was excellent! I had an onion soup, scallop and apple tatin, The onion soup was delicious! hot and cheese was melting over the bowl, scallop was so lite, clean and flavorful, loved the apple tatin. Yes, the best new restaurants in US. I I will be back soon. more

Is this it? 11/14/2006

I don't understand how Esquire magazine could rank them one of the best restaurants in America. The decor is really beautiful. But the service was SO SLOW. And the food was only okay (I had the scallops). Overall, it's good but definitely not one of the best in Atlanta, let alone America. more

Great Environment, but not so great food... 11/14/2006

Overall experience is below average..maybe is because the rating is pretty high so I expected more. more

Get it while it's affordable! 10/29/2006

Fantastic, succulent food. A nice touch was being able to speak to the chef and congratulate him on his impressive restaurant. The bacon wrapped dates are positively sinful. My only complaint is the cramped seating. My husband and I were there to have a romantic dinner to celebrate his birthday, but instead were forced to listen to the guy next to us brag about himself incessantly to his date. And she actually knocked her wine glass over and spilled red wine all over me at one point. Pros: Food, wine, service Cons: location, seating more

Esquire's the best new restaurants in 2006 10/13/2006

I read an Esquire magazine on my way to Atlanta, I found out the "" Repast"" was one of the best new restaurants in 06' and me and my boss decided to dine there on Friday night. Wow!! the place was gorgeous and packed!! The service was flawless and the food was incredible. It was worth traveling from New York CIty to dine at Repast. Pros: owner/chef restaurant, midtown Cons: n/a more

Outstanding 10/10/2006

The atmosphere is perfect and the service was great. Our waitress spent a lot of time answering all of our questions about the menu, the specials and the uniqueness of the restaurant. Our party of 6 each ordered something different off the menu and everyone was pleased, rather than wishing you had ordered what your friend was eating. Even something as ordinary as chicken was special at Repast. Their signature martini makes the trip worth it, even to just sit at the bar with a date. Highly recommended. more

Very Disappointing 10/6/2006

I had read the many wonderful reviews posted on this sight and went into Repast with high expectations. Besides my 2 wonderful martinis, my boyfriend and I were extremely disappointed. Our appetizers were bland, and our entrees were not cooked to either of our satisfaction. The server was attentive, but not the most pleasant person. Also, the place doesn't offer much privacy, so I spent the whole evening listening to the couple at the table next to ours discuss politics and the guy at the table next to them trying to impress his date (and everyone else within earshot-the whole restaurant) with how much money he made. Pros: Outside patio, attentive service, martinis Cons: The food more

Fantastic 10/6/2006

This restaurant is everything any foodie could desire. The service is on point. The food is prepared in a way that accentuates the natural flavors of each dish and the atmosphere is invitingly warm. Make your reservations while you can. Pros: Quality of ingredients and quality of service. Cons: City Hall East across the street! more

Fine Slow Food dining and value! 9/20/2006

I met Joe the chef on the phone and in the restaurant with his son. Misty, our server, was the consumate host, paying close attention to our party; rather dedicated foodies. Mihoko's macrobiotic composition was a delight to the senses and we shared other dishes that were equally tasty. I could also speak highly of the cheese plate - local cheeses with a variety of textures and flavors. It was interesting to taste the Sweetwater Farms Blue, that was a bit harsh alone, but dissolved elegantly when combined with the compote on the plate. We tried four wines during the meal from a Petite Meunier to a Muscat. And the dinner with wine at under $400 for 6 was a remarkable value for the food, the attention and the atmosphere. Pros: Slow Food carefully prepared. Misty, Joe, Mike and all the staff Cons: None that I can think of. more
