DO NOT GO HERE!!! NOT WORTH THE MONEY 5/13/2008

I recently visited here for the first time last weekend (CU Graduation) and my experience was horrible! The food was OK nothing too exciting but the problem with with the wait staff. A loud group nearby our table was loudly celebrating which is one thing- what went wrong was when the wait staff joined in....even having a napkin fight in the middle of the dining room! Our server felt badly and tried to stop it- didn't work. Their waiter actually stopped our meal to congratulate a dinner on graduating (um a student at every table there had graduated). If I'm paying $30 for a meal I expect not to be in such a horrible ill run environment. Pros: Parking, view Cons: everything else more

RED LION - TOURIST TRAP!!!!! DON'T EAT HERE!!!! 7/15/2007

WE ARE FROM BOULDER AND HAD NEVER VISITED RED LION AND WE WILL NEVER EVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!\r \r THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST FOOD I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN SUCH AN EXPENSIVE TYPE RESTAURANT!\r \r FIRST, THE FOOD WAS SO LUKE WARM, IT ONLY TOOK MINUTES BEFORE IT WAS VERY COLD! THE GARLIC MASHED POTATOES WERE SO OLD THE OUTSIDE OF THE POTATOES HAD FORMED INTO A HARD SHELL! MY BAKED POTATO WAS TINY AND OLD ALSO - SO OLD THE MEAT OF THE POTATO WAS STUCK TO THE SIDES OF THE OLD SKIN!\r \r MY DINNER SALAD HAD OBVIOUSLY BEEN MADE IN THE LUNCH HOURS AND SAT IN THE FRIDGE ALL DAY. IT WAS VERY SKIMPY AND THE RANCH DRESSING, OMG, HORRIBLE! IT TASTED LIKE NO-FAT RANCH DRESSING!\r \r WE ARE HAVING GUESTS COME HERE TO BOULDER TO VISIT IN EARLY AUGUST AND WE WERE GOING TO TAKE THEM TO RED LION. WE WILL NOT BE DOING THAT NOW!\r \r TOURISTS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS TOURIST TRAP AND NOT REWARD THE RESTAURANT FOR SUCH INCOMPETENCY!!!!\r \r PS: EVEN THE FLATWARE WAS DIRTY!!!!! Pros: The only plus to this restaurant is eating outside. Be aware they automatically charge 20% tip if you sit outside. Cons: read the review more

Not worth your time or money 6/26/2007

Prices were too high for the quality you get. Salmon was overcooked. Service wasn't great. They didn't even disclose to us up front that when you're seated outside, they automatically add on 20% gratuity (it was just the 2 of us). There was no way I would've given that high of a tip for the bad service we received. We will NOT be going back there again. Pros: Pretty setting Cons: Food, price and service more

User review by fleemanc 11/10/2005

Visited twice this week. First time, the trout was a little overcooked on the edges, but flavorful nonetheless. The creme brulee was exceptional - easily one of the best I've ever eaten. Second time, tried the caribou special and it was fabulous! Tender, well prepared and very flavorful. Served on mashed sweet potato with cracked pepper, the potato was surprisingly good (not a big fan of pepper). I easily cleaned my plate and had another creme brulee. I disagree with the previous comments about the billing. If they did charge seperately for vegetables, they no longer. The prices were very reasonable in my opinion. Not cheap, but not anywhere near what I would call expensive. Both times I visited the staff was attentive and friendly and my overall experience was positive Pros: ample parking, nice views more

Disgusted 11/19/2002

After what had been a very pleasant meal, my companion and I left the Red Lion angry and disgusted. We had been prepared for a costly bill, and were not upset at the prices. However, we were upset at the Restaurant's practise of charging separately for the vegetables that came with the meal (automatically) without listing these costs in the menu or even stating in the menu that a separate cost would be charged. After a fantastic meal, it left a bad taste in our mouths. Cons: unethical practices more

Fun for groups 5/15/2002

We recently had my brother's graduation dinner at the Red Lion, and it was great. We were seated promptly (surprising when you're a party of 8 on a Friday night) and greeted by our jovial server, who kept us entertained the whole way through the meal. I don't have a particularly adventurous palate, and I was squeamish about all the game on the menu (hence I ordered rack of lamb) but trying tidbits of others' meals, it was all wonderful. The boar was especially tasty. Highly recommended for a fun night with a big group. more
