I read about Ragin Cajun here on Citysearch and since my family is from New Orleans and I've grown up eating good cajun food, I decided to try it. I hate to have anything negative...

From a Creole boy, This IS my favorite place to eat. 8/23/2010

I have been going to Ragin Cajun since it was a little store front restaurant. If I was a condemned man, this is what I would want for my last meal (Sorry, Mom!) Been going for over a dozen years.I have had numerous items there, enjoying the pork chops and both the shrimp and crawfish etouffee. But my favorite go-to is the Gumbolaya combo, which is 1/2 red beans and 1/2 jumbalaya w/ a scoop of gumbo on top. My mother was born and raised in Baton Rouge and this is the kind of food I grew up with, with cornbread instead of the french bread they serve. I have introduced the place to many, many friends, never had a bad experience. I think one of my friends summed it up best when he called me after a lunch we had there: ""When you are there, you eat more than you should because it is so good. And on the way home, you wish you had brought some home."" Not to mention, the cool decor, cajun music playing and always friendly wait staff. Wish they were open on Mondays, 'cause now I am hungry! more

Spice does NOT equal taste 8/8/2009

I read about Ragin Cajun here on Citysearch and since my family is from New Orleans and I've grown up eating good cajun food, I decided to try it. I hate to have anything negative to say, but to say I was disappointed is an understatement. When I looked at the shrimp ettoufee (spelling?) I thought I was seeing things. It looked and tasted like it came out of the frozen food section of your local grocery store. Everything else I ordered was the same. The okra was no different than Church's Chicken (except about $4 more in price), I've had better hush puppies (regularly) at the local fish market, and my mama makes better shrimp right in our kitchen. Nothing I ordered was special in any way. But what really SLAYED me was the $25 I spent! Maybe I just ordered the wrong things? Sorry, but this is NOT authentic Cajun food.... Pros: staff friendly, bayou decor Cons: food, prices for what you're getting more

GREAT CAJUN FOOD 2/28/2009

Being from south Louisiana I can honestly state that the food here is as authenic as cajun food comes. The atmosphere is down home with local Lafayette music playing in the backgound. The decorations on the wall reminded me of local places back home. This is a must stop to pass a good time if you are in the area. Many thanks to Stephen and Jeannie for the hospitally shown to us on our visit. Pros: Great food, local flavors from Lafayette Louisiana more

one of the best cajun restaurants anywhere, including New Orleans, LA!! 9/10/2008

Being from the same neck of the woods that Steve, the owner is (Lafatyette, LA) I had just about given up on finding a resturant that actually serves real cajun food in CA. However, much to my suprise and delight, I discovered Rajun Cajun!! No just putting red pepper on a dish and calling it cajun, this food is real down home south Louisiana style. And, their seafood bisque is absolutly the best I have ever had, including any restaurant in New Orleans. The gumbo is also to die for-the roue is dark and delicious, the way the old coon asses make it in down south Louisiana (makes me home sick). Pros: everything is just as it should be more

authentic cajun food 7/5/2006

this place is def. on my "show off cali to the outa-towners" list. i love this place---the atmosphere, the food, the spices, right down to the paper bag menus. the portions are huge, so take a friend. sometimes they get really busy--i swear they only had two servers working the whole place last time I was there--so service can be slow. parking can be rough. i like to go "shopping" at becker's and park behind there and then go here to eat. careful if you park at the vons lot bc they check sometimes. Pros: food, portions, array of sauces and spices for dipping Cons: parking more

This place rocks!!! 11/21/2005

I've never been to New Orleans but have tasted several jambalayas and gumbos. By far, this place makes the best ones!!! Also, if you feel adventurous, try their fried alligators -- the thought of eating alligators is kinda gross but it tasted like popcorn chicken from KFC. more
