NOT RECOMMENDED 3/28/2006

My haircolorist relocated and I was recommended to Prive. I requested natural highlights and ended up with not only breakage but, unnatural highlights that I was embarrassed to be seen in public. Pros: Attractive Salon Cons: Breakage, incorrect highlights more

Boring cut, mean barber 11/29/2005

My barber barely spoke to me. He is so called because a ""stylist"" gets to know your wants, personality, and habits and then creates a style for you. I walked in really open and hoping for a lot of input from a knowledgable source who could tell me what would look and work best for me. He had zero bedside manner and was rough, and I walked out looking like any LA girl, that super flat-ironed look; I wanted something fresh and with body, not something that was chic five years ago. When I explained my frustration with his dismissive manner to reception, they were very nice about it, but that can't really make up for the bad cut. more

Horrible Color & Cut 9/18/2005

Rude staff kept me waiting for 3/4's of an hour. Terrible hair color treatment and I could not communicate with the colorist who seemed to decide what she wanted to do and not what I had in mind. When I asked the hairstylist if he could trim more off the top I got an attitude that was rude and unacceptable. Overall my experience was bad especially when you consider what they charge. The people who work there look ungroomed and seedy. I would not recomend this salon to anyone who cares about their appearance. Pros: Not one Cons: haircut, color, rude more

Fabulous cut, great bargain 4/2/2005

I haven't been loyal to a stylist since my last one pulled was MIA 6 years again. I've been most of the expensive salons, I think I may have finally found my new stylist. I called Prive on Sunday at 4pm and secured an appointment for 4:30pm that same day (due to a cancellation, I didn't have to wait a week). I have long thick hair, I told Timothy I wanted to keep the length, but wanted it to look sexy, I had one rule, no razors, only scissors. I think he took about 2 inches off my entire head with layers and fringes in the front. The cut is great! I have very sexy hair with lots of movement. I've been complimented by strangers on the street and my fiancé loves to run his fingers through the layers. Definitely worth the money. I highly recommend him and the salon. Pros: Talented Stylist, Nice Decor, Clean, Friendly Staff more

Satisfied 11/18/2004

After an ex-stylist butchered my hair, I got a consultation with one of the hair extension specialists. She offered me a lot of options and seemed to be genuinely concerned with my budget and style. I eventually had her cut my hair and she SAVED it! Lots of small details and she listened to how I wanted my hair to turn out. I'm thankful to be a new PRIVE client. I don't like the reception staff, I know New Yorkers are supposed to be rude, but they're very unprofessional. But my stylist is awesome, and it seems as if everyone walks out happy. Pros: Beautiful space, Friendly stylists Cons: , unfriendly reception more

Worst cut ever 5/12/2004

I have long healthy natural hair and left with it razored (which I asked him specifically NOT to use) and looking like a rat chewed it off. The stylist was taking calls on his cell phone the entire time, and kept walking away from me. Never washed my hair, flat ironed it to cut it, then sheared it with the razor. I have never cried over a hair cut before. He just kept adding more product to grease it down. For someone known for her beautiful hair, this was devastating. Finally, he admitted it wasn't working and asked me to leave- his next customer was ready!!! I will never set foot in that horrible sham of a salon again!! Pros: Nice Space Cons: , Worst Cut ever more

Joakin 3/3/2003

If you ever want to get the best haircut ever, make sure you ask for him. He is a wonder! He also works with Eva, a wonderful colorist who will make you look 10 years younger :) more

Wow 2/14/2003

I had previously gone to Soon Salon in the East where I was butchered completely. I made an appointment two months later Prive and Asher fixed the do. It is expensive and I'm one to do tons of surfing and asking around before hand - this one is well worth it. more

Now this is a haircut! 10/26/2002

After a bad cut elsewhere, my husband called Prive and got me an appointment the same day, although I had never been there before. Joakin did a fantastic job, as evidenced by the huge number of post-cut compliments I have received. The service was great. The cost is high, but now I can style my hair with my fingers and I look 10 years younger. Delightful place. more

worth the trip 7/13/2002

Prive is a well-run establishment. Considering the celebrity clientele and high prices, the staff was very friendly and down to earth. I've been to the Madison Avenue Salons (John Barrett, Fekkai) and found their staff to be snobby and pretentious. At Prive, the stylist introduced herself, looked at the texture/cut of my hair, provided me with a few recommendations, then waited for my approval before going to work on my new look. It was exactly what she described and precisely what I expected. There's not much more a person can hope for when it comes to a good haircut (except lower prices). Pros: experienced stylists, location, friendly service Cons: price, price, price more
