hopeful at first glance, but does not deliver 7/19/2008

I had my first experience at Pomodoro recently and at first I thought I had found something special. The restaurant had a pleasant smell of roasting garlic and the many patrons were happily chatting and enjoying themselves. My friend ordered an antipasta plate. Initially, it looked impressive, however it turned out to be very disappointing. It had some kind of processed cheddar cheese and another white cheese I could not identify. It was most certainly not an Italian cheese. There was a sliced up meatball (huh?) and black olives. The waitress explained that their order of Kalamata olives had pits so they would not serve them. I eat olives with pits at restaurants all the time. The marinara sauce literally tasted like pureed Campbell's vegetable soup!\r Luckily I ordered the soup instead of the salad. However, I got clam chowder with grit. There is nothing as gross as eating a sandy soup. My friends got the salad and it was surprisingly adorned with Fried Chinese Chow Mein Noodles !? I was so confused. My entree was ok, however it had tomatoes roughly chopped that still had the woody stem attached. Finally , dessert was inedible. The burnt creme tasted like scrambled eggs with sugar and the chocolate mousse was like a dense piece of sugar saturated lard. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. My ice tea was a winner. I liked how it tasted freshly brewed. The atmosphere of the restaurant was appealing at first, however when I went to the bathroom I had to maneuver around buckets of food remnants from the kitchen. Maybe I came when the cooks were having an off day. Obviously the place is a favorite of others as there was no shortage of willing eaters waiting to be seated. I doubt I'll be back. Pros: Good ice tea, Somewhat good atmosphere Cons: Terrible Terrible interpretation of Italian food more

My favorite period. 4/26/2008

Love Pomodoro and the prices are so reasonable we can go for almost any reason. Carbonara is my acid test for an Italian restaurant and these guys passed with flying colors. I don't know what it is these guys do that makes their garlic butter different but it is excellent. The husband loves their raspberry vinegarette and I am hooked on their in house made blue cheese. Entrees are generous and how can you argue with a menu that has nothing over $20? Wish they'd put the gnocchi on the dinner menu though. Tim is our favorite server (and he's in the pic on the site) although we've never had a bad one. They are friendly and efficient even when busy...and they are always busy. The place is usually packed but we've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table.\r \r There is a parking lot in the back if you just look so it's not just street parking although except on a Friday, Saturday or early on Sunday evening it's really not tough to park on the street either. I think we'll go tomorrow! Pros: Everything? Cons: No gnocchi for dinner! :o( more

Friendly, neigborhood Vibe 3/8/2007

I don't usually write reviews, but felt compelled to do so. I love Pomodoro. Whenever we go, we are made to feel like old friends, even though I'm not sure they really know our names. The food is great and plentiful. The service is friendly and quick and the drinks and desserts are fantastic. I do reccomend calling ahead for a reservation, particularly on weekends, it can get quite crowded and the location isn't all that large. Pros: ambience, service, friendliness, desserts Cons: parking can be a hassle - on street only. Don't be afraid to walk a few blocks, it's a great neighborhood. more

It gets worse every time 7/16/2005

Pomodoro used to be a great but has greatly changed over the years. I once ordered a creamy pasta dish, only to find a piece of plastic in it--the server was very apologetic. Orders have been messed up and food has been substandard. This spring, my silverware was filthy (like it was left from the previous inhabitants of the table). Because of previous experiences (we went there because a friend wanted to go), I only ordered soup. It arrived, I took a sip, and nearly choked. It was so salty that it was completely inedible. I'm usually the type to not make a scene, but then choose to not come back--in this case, since I really couldn't eat it, I had to say something. The waitress didn't believe me (until she tasted it) and was rude. Pros: location Cons: low quality food, rude service more

Yummy 11/8/2002

I ate there last night with a friend and it was great.. Very friendly staff.. Seemed like I knew them for years, they were so friendly. The restaurant has a very neighborhoody feel to it. Lots of students, young couples, and older couples. The food was great. Even though I couldn't finish even half because I was full before it even came. They don't let you go hungry. I have friends from Seattle who were down for a concert and want to find it but couldn't.. I reccommend this place highly.. Pros: Great Location, Friendly Staff, Great Food Cons: Noisy more
