Bear with me and make up your own mind........
My car was stolen in Brooklyn. It was found two days later. The police had these people tow it.
When notified by my insurance company, I immediately went to platinum's ""office"" address. I should have known that something was amiss when there was no sign, no mailbox, no indication that ""advanced auto body"" was really the home of ""platinum"" towing.
I was allowed to see my car and the damages to it. It was really tucked back into the corner of the auto body garage with poor lighting, a filthy floor and no way to really inspect the damage.
I was then told I ""needed to sign"" a release to let them take the vehicle apart to ""determine"" hidden damage. I balked and went back to my borrowed car and called my insurance company. They advised me to have the car towed to one of their authorized shops. It was 2:30 pm and I went back into the office. I asked about the charges and was told that it was ""only"" $17.00 to store the car. I said that I was considering having it towed. Nick responded with ""Better get them over here in 20 minutes because we close then. It's Friday afternoon.""
I asked him again what the charges would be and Nick responded, ""I don't know why your insurance has a problem, it's only &17.00 a day.""
My mistake. I left the car there over the weekend.Friday, Nick assured me HE would call as soon as the insurance company came on Monday.
I called my insurance on Monday, late morning, to be told that someone at platinum/advanced had ""rescheduled"" the adjuster because ""the car won't be ready until Wednesday.""
Enough!
I called platinum/advanced auto body and asked for the charges. Amazing....$100.00 + 3 x $17.00 now added up to $273.27!
I paid these people their ransom. Nick told me the car would be ready in 15 minutes. I went outside and called the new towing company and asked them to let their driver know that I suspected a plan to delay me. Sure enough, 10 minutes later Nick literally walks by me on the side walk and says, ""It'll be a while because, you know, it's Monday and were busy.""
So, I call my new tow company back and we re-coordinate.
About 30 minutes later they get my car out and are preparing to put it in front of a fire hydrant on a side street when with PERFECT timing my tow truck arrives for the hand off.
SO, please temper the one positive comment with my experience. I know the guys at p/a auto body or whoever they are will get theirs. There have to be 50 towing companies to call to have an illegally parked car towed that won't work to the car owner's detriment. IN ADDITION, keep in mind that my car was legally parked, had NO tickets and was STOLEN. I was the victim of the theft and the victim of this towing company.
Pros: friendly until you waant any information
Cons: Undisclosed outrageous fees and NO CHOICE!
