Editorial review from Citysearch 8/4/2013

Looking for a demeaning experience at a glorified PIZZA PLACE? I promise anger, mediocre food, time limits. The area has great eateries - NOT this one. Amazing they get away with it. Don't let them. more

Spent hundreds, yet rushed out hours before closing time 7/14/2011

I recently went to Piccolo for my birthday dinner, party of 12. We got reservations, but were surprised to learn there was a time limit on our table-on a Thursday night. Our reservations were for 630, and we sat, had dinner and a lot of fun-despite the vastly underwhelming nd apathetic customer service. The food was decent, some dished were better than others-i do not reccomend the lasagna. When 830 came around, the staff at Piccolo rushed us out. There were no parties waiting; yet the server refused to give us coffee or even water after that 830 deadline. For a large party of 12, who obviously have spent hundreds at the restaurant, I found the way we were treated appalling. I will never go back, or recommend it to any visitors to Pittsburgh. more

Not worth the wait 6/20/2010

A friend and I wanted to try this restaurant. We got there and the hostess said the wait would be about 35 mins. An hour later we finally got seated. My friend ordered a pizza. I ordered pasta. She got her pizza...while I waited another 10 mins for my food!!! I thought they forgot my order! When I got mine it wasn't even hot! I probably would not go back to this restaurant....as there are many other good places to eat in Pittsburgh. Pros: Nice scenery Cons: LONG WAIT!!!! more

It's great...for Pittsburgh 2/28/2010

This place has a cool ambiance that is unique to Pittsburgh. The menu is, however, disappointing. Nothing tastes as good as it appears to based on it's description in the menu. And, since there aren't really any other options like Piccolo Forno in this city, let's just say I won't complain. And for all the ignorant Pittsburghers who love Piccolo Forno as a pizzaria, please, immediately catch a flight to New York, dine at Keste (west village), and then we can discuss ""authentic, delicious, ITALIAN style pizza."" Pros: ambiance Cons: quality of the food more

Outstanding pasta-spinach ravioli 7/9/2009

Go for the spinach ravioli or the panzanella salad. This place has the best italian food for the money. Pros: great pasta and salads Cons: occasional long wait more

Great Food 3/2/2008

Although many of the reviews concentrate on the pizza, our experience has been with the dinner entrees which are fresh and tasty. All entrees are made to order and the amounts are just right. Many times we go to restaurants where bigger is better. This is not always true. Piccolo Forno is a friendly place where friends should meet to enjoy the deliciious fare. My favorite is the Crispella di Funghi and the Lasagna Toscano is the best I've eaten. Piccolo Forno reminds me of the many restaurants in NYC's little Italy. We generally show up early or late so as not to wait too long for a table. Save room for the tiramasu.\r \r Pros: Quality of food Cons: no reservations more

Friendly, nice range of choices for what to eat. 9/23/2007

Service was very courteous during our 1 hr wait for a table (our bad timing I guess). My insalata di finocchio was very nice. And the cheese and meat plate was fine. Ordered the margherita pizza- MUCH better than Fiori's (thank you, Jesus) but still not GREAT. The crust had a consistent thickness from the rim through the center which made the over texture of the pie a little odd. There was a slight crisp, still too chewy for me- but thank you for using good, bubbly cheese (not too much and rubbery like SOME places) and not making the sauce like someone would kettle corn- way too salty and too sweet. It was good, but still left me unsatisfied in filling my craving for real, crispy pizza. It was better than it could be, but not as good as it should be. I will be back, although more for the main courses. And for the reviewer below, the owner shoots for Tuscan style, and to call this pizza Napoli style is a mistake. Pros: BYOB, nice selection of various courses, polite service Cons: Loud, no reservations for groups less than 5 more

REAL NAPOLI Style Pizza. The BEST in town period. 7/11/2007

To give you some background I am not from the ""burgh"". This fact alone is worth noting. I have eaten at Lombardis in NYC, Johns NYC, UNO Chicago, Regina Margherita, Il Piazzolo as well as Fioris, Campattis, Mineos, Vincents and every other have decent place in the burgh and after many many POOR reccomendations on this site I have decided to fight back. This is the best true pizza in the burgh hands down. Its not even close. As if having great pizza wasnt enough its a really nice place. So if your tired of going to places that look like they need to be torn down and terrible pizza give this place a try. \r Pros: pizza, pasta, antipasto, interior Cons: neighborhood, maybe price more

Just like Italy 6/14/2006

After spending time in Italy I searched everywhere for similar pizza. I found it right here and its the best in the city. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made me feel warm and welcome. Great for a first date or a group of friends. Truely a hidden gem. more

Fabulous thin-crust Northern Italian pizza 2/16/2006

We've been looking for this specific type of pizza since we left CT, and we've finally found it. Phenomenal food at incredible prices. This place has a great classy bistro ambience, too. more
