Amazing food and Great Service 3/12/2011

I came here since I noticed the old Arabic place that used to be here has been replaced. It's my first Irish/Celtic restaurant ever in the city and my boyfriend and I absolutely loved it! We had the bacon wrapped scallops to start, the bacon was just crisp enough and the scallops were such a soft texture. I had the salmon special with honey pepper sauce and I ate every single bit. My date had the corned beef and cabbage. I had never tried corned beef but it was absolutely delectable, the beef was lean and the spicy mustard made it perfect. I also enjoyed the 'percy's apple' drink which is whiskey, sour apple and cranberry. I'm not even a whiskey drinker at all and I'm going to try to make this drink at home now. I can't wait to go back. They also have Irish performers every now and then so I really want to check that out. more

AVOID AT ALL COST! 12/1/2010

If I could give this place negative stars I would. The people who are rating this place highly either have no taste or are being paid to do so. The food was beyond mediocre - it was bad, ill prepared and quite frankly inedible. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich expecting what you would expect - pulled pork. Instead it was a french toast concoction with cold pulled pork and a random egg on top. The bread was even bad. A basic of pub fare - fries - were even bad. Fries!! If you can't make fries well - you should be put out of business. I suspect that is what will happen to this place. Save your money and go somewhere, anywhere that has any sense of taste. McDonalds would even be better. more

Great All Around Experience 11/8/2010

I came into Percy's Tavern to eat dinner Friday. I was really blown away by this East Village gem. The room was comfortable and classy, the staff was knowledgable and the food presentation was beautiful and tasted even better. The 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing is the best this restaurant has to offer. The chef prepares smaller portions of 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and a desert with wine paired to accompany each. It truly is the perfect meal and I'll be back in again soon to have another! more

It Has It All 11/7/2010

I pass this restaurant everyday on my route to work. Watching the everyday labor to make it the beautiful building it is now. I had dinner there a few nights ago me and a friend. We were seated by the friendliest staff I?ve met in nyc. The food was to die for and that?s saying a lot coming from one of the worlds pickets eaters. The atmosphere is wonderful casual dinning and formal dinging in one place is such a great idea. As I sit here writing this review I want to express how much I loved coming to Percy?s. The whole experience from walking in ,talking to the well mannered, friendly staff, eating wonderful food in such a great setting, to sitting back when the meal is finished while enjoying a cup of coffee watching the owner a Mr Watson walk around and greet customers? with a warm welcome. Now this is what I look for in a restaurant and I will most Definitely! be coming back and often. more

Great place to eat 11/7/2010

I walked in off the street with my girlfriend. As we entered, a friendly server seated us. The bar was full and a large group of people were celebrating a birthday. The server explained the tasting menu to us and we decided to try it with a bottle of the house Malbec. The food was delicious. Each plate was seasoned wonderfully and a great variety was offered. We sat back, enjoyed the conversation, and were taken care of the whole time. We will definitely be back! more

Best Tasting Menu in the WORLD 1/27/2010

Been going to Knife+Fork for the past couple years, and I cannot tell enough of my friends about this east village secret. The chef's tasting menu, which changes often, does not fail to impress - and it's $45 for SIX courses! If you consider yourself a fan of the following, i suggest you check this spot out: cozy, unpretentious settings, knowledgeable friendly staff, tons of crazy good artisan beers, wine that you can both enjoy AND afford, $8 tasting plates at bar, and the tastiest glazed pork belly north of the mason dixon... Pros: exceptional food, attentive staff, quality/affordable wine Cons: is too much food a con? more

Extraordinary Place 1/26/2010

Knife and Fork?s meals are simply exquisite and beautifully prepared. The menu offered a wide variety of options for my carnivorous and vegetarian friends alike and keeps us coming back to discover the new dishes frequently added to the menu. Tasting plates at the bar are a steal for $8 and leave you fully satisfied. The cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and extensive beer and wine list leave nothing to be desired. All in all an incredible experience and one I will be coming back for again and again. Pros: Great tastes, flavors, and preparations more

Another Idea for Small Plates 1/20/2010

Tastier and more upscale than the closed Xunta, Knife and Fork serves up surprisingly cheap tapas-sized plates at the bar that keep you coming back. Each time I've been, there has been a new dish on the menu ranging from venison to sea bass and always the excellent creme brulee. Stop in have a pint and ask what's new today. Pros: Delicious tasting plates at the bar more

Best tapas in the village! 1/20/2010

A formidable display of what is possible with the small plate. The chef here exemplifies the art of creativity. Taking a particular interest in seafood he manages to combine what I assumed were mutually exclusive flavors, such as the scallop and the humble cauliflower, and brings them together in a delightful dish. This isn't just a great meal, it's a great journey. Combining the artistic flair that pervades all great creative pursuits like music and painting, making the unexpected familiar and the familiar unexpexted Pros: excellently crafted food Cons: my stomach is too small more

Great service, great food. 1/1/2010

Husband and I went there for 2010 NYE. They had a 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing for $100. I was a little worried that the cost (which is really cheap) was going to mean bad food, but that was totally not that case. First course was oyster and poached lobster, second was foie gras, third was halibut, and fourth was organic lamb and shoulder. All the dishes were VERY good, albeit a bit small. It was perfect size for me, but I'm not the average eater; a ""normal sized"" man would've left hungry. in addition to good food, the service was great. Very attentive, asking several times if everything was ok. At midnight everyone got complimentary champagne (they didn't even advertise this so thought it was extra pleasant) and party favors. We were trying to decide a few restaurants, and we're very good we chose this one. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience Cons: portions were a bit small more

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT 10/8/2009

Rule of thumb in any service-based business- to create and allow for a customer experience. no matter how good the food is, if you have HORRIBLE service and a sense of bad attitude - no business can ever thrive. I hope this is a lesson well-learned. The wait staff have to STOP being so pompous, arrogant, and conceited. They can make you feel like you are dirt - why? Because 1) you do not go with their recommendations 2) you haven't heard about them before 3) you are requesting for simple modifications to the chef's menu (ie, due to allergies to certain foods), 4) you are asking too many questions Pros: perfect restaurant if you like to be mistreated more

Great Pre-fix Menu 5/20/2009

I love this place! The staff is always accommodating, friendly, and on point! Pros: Food and location more

Good food, Not so good otherwise 5/18/2009

Went there for the tasting menu with my girlfriend recently. It was alright, but overall much less impressive than I expected. Perhaps I'm just used to higher quality tasting menus. Let me say that the food was generally good. However, there were aspects of the presentation and service which just struck me as amateurish and silly. I'll just list the two which stuck out most prominently. The first couple of dishes coming out were all covered in chervil. I thought that maybe it was just a coincidence. However, the more dishes that came, the more chervil we got. Did they have a surplus that they needed to offload onto us? Out of our 6 dishes, 4 of them were covered in chervil. There was no difference in the presentation of it, just a dish of whatever and then covered in chervil. To me, it's like serving a giant lemon wedge with every dish. I have nothing against chervil, but why put it on top of 2/3 of the dishes? Gladly, the dessert wasn't one of them. However, the dessert was another problem I had. We were both served in the same small dishes, but filled with glaringly different amounts. A serving isn't exceptionally large to begin with, so you might think that consistency might be easy. However, they sure didn't manage that. The levels were visibly off. I wasn't much in the mood for the dessert anyway, so I didn't make a comment, but I'm not sure how you can serve two people at a table a course of a tasting menu and have the quantity of food be visibly different. I'd suggest not getting the tasting menu and just ordering an appetizer+entree. It might cost just a little more (or the same depending on what you get), but you'll be saved from the silliness of an unorganized tasting menu. Since I didn't have a complaint about the food itself, I'd recommend going here if you want to try it for that reason alone. Pros: Good food Cons: Amateur presentation, better tasting menus elsewhere more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Buzzing foodies with a panoply of accents fill the intimate space, which has been designed with cross-Atlantic flair. The kidney-shaped bar and thick wood tables proudly rep the nabe's bohemian history, while the thin, long-stemmed wine glasses and designer cutlery divulge posher tendencies. Finally, beaded candleholders, tall breeze-friendly windows and white stucco walls (with a rounded cutout leading to the kitchen) strike decidedly Mediterranean notes.

    The Food
Irish chef Damien Brassel trained in formidable kitchens across Europe and North America, and his eclectic menu ping-pongs vigorously between old and new world sensibilities. Fresh Greenmarket ingredients co-star in nearly every dish. Zaftig scallops get an earthy accompaniment of tangy citrus-accented couscous. Beef carpaccio nearly melts on the tongue before pointing the way to the tart surprise of its plate-mate, "overnight tomatoes." The showstopper: Tender venison with a gorgeous smear of parsnip puree and a smattering of edible orchid petals.
