We had a great experience on Saturday at Peek-a-Do. My daughter is 3 1/2 and this was her first haircut. Donna was extremely patient and friendly with my daughter even though she was crying up a storm and falling out on the floor. She explained everything she was doing. Her hair turned out great. She was moving around and Donna took her time to make sure it was straight. Very pleased with the experience and the staff. more

Quite possibly the worst haircut experience ever. I took my son in for a simple ""bang trim"" last night. The stylist was waiting on the for us on the bench when we walked in, and looked half-asleep. She was nice enough, but I think she was still half-asleep during the haircut. His bangs were very uneven and jagged. I'm having to take him somewhere else today to get this disaster fixed. I'm upset with myself for not noticing this until we got home (I guess you want to just trust people), and furious at the salon for wasting my time and money. Avoid this place. more

I don't usually write reviews, but I visited Peek-a-Do today. I did so despite the bad reviews because my little guy does NOT do well in a regular salon. I was desperate! more

Avoid this place at all costs is a right statement! I'm not even sure if they are certified to cut hair! My 2 year old's first hair cut was at their old location, they did ok. So I tried them a second time and they did a horrible job. I thought what the heck I'll request a new person at this new location and explain how bad of a job they did the last time and hope for a better experience. Not a smart idea! I have tried to fix the horrible uneven hair cut - 3 to 4 times in the past day- to save my self from embarrassment in school and public! AVOID THIS PLACE at least for toddlers. more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! 4/14/2012

We were SO excited about our son's first haircut (even thought he prices were astronomical!) We brought our camera and were ready for a great experience. Then a tattoo covered woman with a big attitude came out looking for ""Amanda"". She was looking at us and I told her his name was Sutter, she paused, didn't even LOOK at him and said ""ok, come on"". Not one word hello to us or my son. He was so nervous and not once did she speak the ENTIRE time or try to comfort him. She sprayed him in the face quite a few times with her water bottle and it made him cry each time. Finally, I decided to hold him while she finished because he was miserable and made her just stop. AVOID this place!!! Even witnessing this scene, no manager or owner stepped in or said a word. We will NEVER go here again! more

Bad Bad Bad Party Experience 4/4/2012

We had my little girl?s birthday party at Peek-a-Do this year and I was beyond extremely disappointed. I found them by Googling ?little girl spa party? and on the website the salon looked warm and inviting and the party package sounded great. I paid $300 for my daughter and three friends to have the ?salon all to themselves for 1? hours? receive an ?up-do and mini manicure? as well as a craft project, custom cupcakes and sparkling cider. more

Rude Receptionist 12/13/2011

I tried to schedule an appointment for a mother-daughter mani using a LivingSocial voucher. The lady who answered the phone said they were not going to schedule any such appointments anymore. Anyway, I found the lady (Alison, Alicia, .... ?) to be surly. If this is how they talk to prospective clients on the phone, then I don't think service at the site will be good. more

Horrible Experience 12/4/2011

I took my 14 month son for his first haircut and it was the worst experience I've ever had in a hair salon. Since this is a salon catered to children, I expected the stylist to actually be somewhat good with children. The stylist did not engage my son nor did she smile throughout the entire visit. The stylist did not seem like she had any experience cutting hair, let alone any specialized training in cutting children's hair. The stylist cut the front of his hair straight across so it looks like a ""bowl cut."" His hair is also cut unevenly throughout making it look like he has bald spots. She then cut his ear and rolled her eyes when I asked her if she had any antiseptic. This was an absolute horrible experience with a horrible stylist who has no business cutting hair for children or otherwise. more

Peek-a-don't 3/13/2011

Let me preface by saying, I've brought my children here off and on for years. My daughter wanted her haircut badly so despite my better judgment, I got her haircut by someone who hasn't cut her hair before. Most of my daughter's chair time was basically chastising antics about how the stylist should charge me $20 for a detangling fee. I've never had anyone charge me for that !! The entire time was rushed. My daughter liked her cut so I bit my tongue and the stylist and I agreed on an $11 detangling fee. Since her haircut ran almost 30 minutes another stylist had to do my son's hair . When I was waiting for my son to finish up I took a few pics of my daughter. I DIDN'T look at the back. When we got home to ""show daddy"" I realized...her hair wasn't cut evenly!!! The left side was shorter than the right! It looks like she was cutting on a slant. I took a picture and uploaded it. It's in the Peek-a-do gallery . It is my fault for not checking my daughter's hair and making sure it was up to par before leaving so I take responsibility and ownership for that. Having said all of that, my bill was $51 - for 2 kids 'cuts and an $11 detangling fee!!!!!!!!!!! I could have just taken them to the Hair Clips down the street for $6.99 cut. They could have done a better job and with the extra money, I could have taken the entire family out to dinner. I'll be looking for another hair salon to take my children in the future. Bummed because the location is great but the prices and talent aren't worth the experience!. more

Cute concept.....POOR EXECUTION. 3/5/2011

My husband and I were very excited to take our 15 month old to have his 1st haircut and decided that we would go ALL out and purchase the 1st haircut package, valued $26. Please save your money!!!!!!! While the stylist was very nice and friendly, I can't say the same of our overall experience. Since this is a kid's salon, you would expect a certain expection on overall cleanliness and good hygeine. Our son was given two hair combs to entertain himself which he placed in his mouth and continually dropped.....neither the combs nor the child's seat were cleaned and were promply used on the next child.....SHOULDN""T A SALON LIKE THIS BE CONCERNED ABOUT ""LICE"". I was totally grossed out.....Had this equipment been previously used on another child without cleaning then used on my child too? The haircut was mediocre, the wait for photos and ""certificate"" (a 4x6 card), plus lock of hair took an additional 20 minutes to wait for.....Will I go back.....NO!!!!! more

Peek-a-Do rocks! 6/28/2009

I am 8 years old and have been going to Peek-a-Do since I was 4 1/2. I think Peek-a-Do is the best kids/grown-ups hair salon ever. Kids get a variety of tv shows and movies to watch during their haircut. There is a play area filled with toys that you can play with while waiting to get your hair cut. They have a variety of very nice staff. I think you will like it too. Pros: nice staff, tv while I get haircut, kid and adult cuts more

Never Again... 6/8/2009

I took my 18 month in for a haircut this morning and am very disappointed! Our stylist was very, very slow! With a toddler you only have a small window of time that the cool chairs and televisions will keep their attention. It literally took her nearly 30 minutes to cut his hair. We never were even able to finish his haircut because we couldn't keep him sitting there any longer (can't blame him though.) We normally go to JJ Kids cuts in Raleigh and get his hair cut by Shakeisha. She actually gives a good cut with a style and were are done in under 10 minutes. She is able to also cut his hair while hes squirming (as a good kids hair stylist should.) Cons: Aweful Haircut and Slow more

Peek-a-do is a DON'T!! 2/25/2009

I took my son to Peek-a-do salon (near South Point Mall) for his first haircut today. I was so excited considering this was the ""first."" Unfortunately my experience was ruined by the extremely rude staff at Peek-a-do. The stylist who cut my son's hair acted as if it were a chore. My son was surprisingly content throughout the duration of the cut, but she she seemed to have no patience or the demeanor needed to work with children. In addtion to the cold staff, I paid for the ""first haircut"" package...waste of money. The pictures I took turned out far better and I coould have brought my own plastic bag for the hair clippings.Overall, the experience was disappointing...I will never take my son back. more

Great experience!!!! 5/29/2008

We went to Peek a doo to get my 2 kids hair cut this week and were stunned that we hadn't been there before! I loved the decor and the girls that worked there were wonderful. I was skeptical because it was my kids first time getting haircuts at a kids salon and I was expecting a fun experience but not a great haircut. BOY WAS I WRONG!!! My kids got the best haircuts they have ever had! The receptionist was so welcoming and friendly and the 2 stylists we dealt with were outgoing and talked us through the entire experience. I can't believe that we held out this long, but I will never go anywhere else to get my kids hair cut. They have a really cute toy store, they are really friendly and make you feel right at home and we all just had a great time. I was thrilled with the entire experience and so were my kids. We will definitely be back. Pros: The employees are awesome!!! Cons: We should have tried them out sooner!! more

Not Impressed. 5/3/2008

Paying took longer than the actual haircut for my daughter. $20 is rather steep for a trim in my opinion. The service was friendly but the place was not run professionally. Taking caring of their personal business took priority over servicing their customers. I don't think I'll be going back. Pros: Convenient location; ample parking Cons: Pricey; not well managed more

WOW!!!!!! 3/7/2008

My son and I just went to Peek a do for the first time and I am in awe over this place! I do not take the time to write reviews, but Peek a do really amazed me! The staff was amazingly kind and patient and understanding and my son's haircut is darling. I can't believe I am saying this, but I can't wait for my son to need another haircut. Go to Peek a do you won't regret it! Pros: Amazing staff!!! Wow! Great experience Cons: Nothing!!! more

Such a fun place! 2/22/2008

We have been trying to figure out where to bring our 18 month old twins for haircuts and several of our friends recommended Peek a do. I was very nervous, since neither of my kids had ever had a haircut, so I didn't know how they would do. But as soon as we walked into Peek a do I knew we made the right choice. The receptionist was very welcoming and the hair dressers came over and introduced themselves and were so friendly and nice, they put me and my kids at ease right away! My son sat in a cute car and my daughter loved flying an airplane. They each picked what show they wanted to watch and the hair dressers laughed with them and doted on them the entire time we were there. Both kids got wonderful haircuts and look so adorable (of course I am a little biased!). We played after the haircuts and they both loved the entire experience, but not as much as me! This was a wonderful place that made us feel very comfortable from beginning to end and the haircuts were awesome! I highly recommend Peek a do. Pros: Great haircuts, cute atmosphere, nice staff more

Not impressed! 2/22/2008

Are we talking about the same salon? I took my daughter here after reading the online reviews, and I was very disappointed. The sytlists weren't rude, but they weren't overly friendly, either. The ""fun"" chairs appeared pretty beat up for a relatively new salon. The TVs are a nice touch, but they don't make up for a mediocre hair cut. I guess my expectations were set too high. Based on the reviews, I expected a salon for kids, but this was no more than a kids version of Great Clips. more

Really Fun and Excellent Haircuts 1/23/2008

I brought my 6 year old daughter and 3 year old son to Peek a do for the first time this weekend and we had a wonderful experience. My kids were both in desperate need of haircuts! Over the past several years we have tried everywhere else in town and neither of my kids have never gotten a haircut that satisfied me. I was stunned by how nice and child friendly the staff was, they were VERY patient with my son who was not a very cooperative client! Even with his squirming and crying they talked him through the entire experience and his haircut is adorable! My daughter got pampered with a wonderful haircut and then sparkles in her hair and a cute little ribbon to finish it off. I am very impressed with the salon and staff and we will never go anywhere else again! Both kids asked if we could go back to Peek a do today after school, that is amazing considering what a chore this used to be! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Peek a do to every mom or dad out there! Pros: Great Haircuts and Friendly Staff more

rude rude rude 1/22/2008
