favorite place for a relaxing night out 4/7/2008

my roommates and i absolutely LOVE this bar! the decor is beautiful, the drinks are absolutely delicious, and the dj always happens to have the perfect playlist going. the bartenders are always so friendly and attentive and the crowd this place draws is just as fun. if you're looking to get away from the over-the-top craziness of 6th street and the pretentious snobs on 4th, this is definitely the place to go! more

Awful 3/19/2007

The Peacock is the physical embodiment of all that is wrong with Austin hipster culture. I came here for a friends' 21st birthday (why you would choose this place for a night of fun is beyond me), and was sorely disappointed. First of all, the place is incredibly tiny, with not nearly enough seating. Everyone in the bar looked like they would rather be somwhere else: scenesters there to be seen and see others. The problem with these places is they are staffed by hipsters who have no respect for the bartending profession and thus are severely lacking in service and knowledge: There were about 20 people in the bar when I arrived, two girls ahead of me, and it still took me close to 20 minutes to get a beer. Horrible, horrible service. The music is also way too loud, eliminating any charm the small, intimate setting could hope to have. Bottom line, go someplace else. Pros: Intimate setting, nicely designed interior Cons: horrible service, too loud music, bad crowd more
