Editorial review from Citysearch 9/1/2012

I've been coming here since 2006 for everything: cut/color/waxing -- you name it. I've never had anything but good to exceptional service. more

Hayden Kings is the best 12/16/2011

I returned to this salon when Hayden Kings moved here from DeBardinis. He is amazing. He is incredible with color and blow drys and all else. I feel like he is a hair artist not merely a stylist. He is also warm, professional, and treats you like you are his only client. You could not ask for a nicer person to work with on all matters of hair. I could not recommend Hayden any more highly! more

Great Salon // Perfect Cut // Ask for Hayden 12/16/2011

I recently visited the UES location of this fabulous salon and had an appointment with Hayden Kings. I can tell you, I've never had a more friendly and attentive hair stylist in all my life. He was so easy to talk to and really seemed like he'd known me and my hair forever. Luxe shampoo followed by a smart cut that I can style myself daily. He even blow dried and styled my hair with a round brush and curling iron. He really is generous and knows what it means to provide quality service. It's an amazing value and I highly recommend both the salon and, specifically, Hayden. I look forward to returning for a trim soon and plan to try ombre with him in the future. When I have worked up the courage, though I know whatever he does will turn out gorgeous. When you book your appointment, tell him Nell sent you! : ) One thing I would recommend to them: offer non-dairy milk as an option for the coffee and tea. Some customers don't do dairy! Thank you! more

Love My Color! 9/21/2011

I followed Hayden Kings here and it is worth the trek from downtown or over a few bridges. Also, located Mid-town and the upper west side and availability 24/7. The setting is dreamy and the staff gracious. Hayden remains super! Again: My guy was Hayden Kings -- From A to Z this is how I felt about my color, cut, style and how the hours spent at the salon made me feel: more

Like it but $$$ 4/14/2010

I really like how they cut my hair and they were so nice there. Service and being polite is, to me, the ost important thing of all. It's expensive but worth the money IMO. The stylist said it was OK for me to bring my little one next time so I can save money on the babysitting. Not sure I can get my hair cut there every time but for a special occasion it's great. BTW I used the west side location, not the one listed here. Pros: Great haircut, nice people Cons: expensive!!!! more

Best Haircut EVER 2/9/2010

I've been going to Paul Lebrecque hairsalon for almost a year now and Izabella is the most professional and friendliest hair stylist you can ever ask for. She always has a smile on her face and always gets the job done. I can feel very comfortable in her hands and NEVER think twice that it would be a disaster once it is done. I would recommend her for all different type of haircuts and coloring! Thank you Izabella for making me look GREAT ALL THE TIME! Pros: Friendly Service and Great Attitude! more

Worst Highlights 12/28/2009

I got my hair highlighted at Paul Labrecque and was terribly disappointed and horrified with how my hair came out. I asked for golden blond highlights and got white stripes. I thought it looked ""off"" so I asked someone at the salon who said, ""you look great!"" When I got home my non observant boyfriend asked what happened to my hair because it was ....needless to say I won't be back. Cons: Very Judgemental, Rude Service, Cannot Translate Your Needs more

WORST HAIRCUT EVER! 11/5/2009

Went to the West Side location. Had appointment with stylist named Jason. Clearly and directly went through agreed upon length for the ""trim"", 1 and 1/2 inches. Left 4 inches shorter and looking terrible. Complete and utter disregard for my expectations. Complained to manager (Tim) who was just as terrible as Jason. In my 37 years have never had such a terrible experience. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. How do they stay in business? Cons: Don't listen. Lousy stylist and manager. more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER 10/30/2009

THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST PRETENTIOUS BUNCH OF REJECTS WHO THINK THEY ARE PART OF SOME SORT OF ARMY OF GREATNESS. MEANWHILE, THEY EXUDE A LACK OF CONFIDENCE, EXTREME LOSS OF CONTROL, AND POOR SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM. Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

Amazing color experience 9/11/2009

Kelly at the East Side location is a coloring genius. I went to her with the fakey, uneven, orange disaster that another stylist had left me with, and she turned it into cool, rich, natural-looking red hair. I've been searching for a regular stylist for years, and I think I've finally found her. Kelly treated me like a friend and made me look like a goddess. She listened to my concerns, reassured me, and took the situation completely in hand. She didn't even make me look at a single swatch -- she knew exactly what I wanted, and she delivered completely. The only reason I'm giving the place four stars instead of five is that while Claudia was very nice and great to chat with, she was kind of clumsy and even got my hair caught in the hairdryer vent at one point -- yowch! Also I agree with another review, the front desk was a little tough -- I wound up waiting for quite a while to check out. They were very accommodating on the phone, though. Pros: A colorist who actually listens and delivers! Cons: Front desk and assistants seem a little absent-minded more

Saw ck for color 7/18/2009

im an interior designer and know when color just works. its been 10 weeks since my color service and my hair color just gets better and better, thats why i have to write ck a review i wanted something natural, but not the same old highights. i have fair skin and everyone wants to make me blonde! she looked at me, and talked about matching color to my skin tone and eyes and looked at some pictures together. then she PAINTED on really beautiful coperygold and some contrasting tones. ive never received more compliments. my hair's got a little wave to it and it looks like ive got gorgeous ribbons of color. ck's spunky and cool and a MUST see in manhattan. Pros: finally, someone who listens! color thats cool Cons: front desk people can be tough to deal with more

make an appointment with the best barber in NYC: Izabella 3/10/2009

Great Atmoshphere and I Loved my stylist CK!! 2/6/2009

I recently moved to New York from Los Angeles and after having a series of bad experiences with color at other New York salons, I was turned on to the Paul Labreque salon. Luckily, life lead me to CK. What a phenom with color. She not only corrected the color from my previous experiences at different salons, but I walked out of the 65th and Lex salon both feeling and looking amazing. In fact, I went shopping immediately afterwards, and two random strangers stopped me to ask where I had my color done. I felt attractive and confident, what can I say. Ask about the ""hand painting"" because it worked great with my hair. I think she also does striating and balayage. Overall a great experience in a fun and mellow environment. Pros: My stylist and hair savior CK Cons: None that I can see more

horrible customer service 1/29/2009

Had an appointment as a hair model for color with Millie. I was excited, the website made the salon look great and the model program is very affordable. Millie and I spoke over the phone about what I was looking for and she sounded great. Well I worked very late last night but got up this morning very early to make sure I was on time. Well imagine my suprise when I get to the salon and the girl at the front desk says Millie is not allowed to do color today and she was supposed to have contacted me. Well I pull out my cell phone and there is no message, no text. Another girl comes out and says again Millie is not allowed to do color today do you maybe wanna reschedule. I understand I am just a model but no one even apologized to me. I am sure that the apprentices want the models to show up on time and keep there appointments why not return the favor. Pros: affordable Cons: if they show up more

Color and Cut with ELANA.... 12/29/2008

Elana has done my hair for the past year. Before coming to her, I was being colored by one of NYC's top colorists. I am the happiest I have ever been with my color. She has given me natural blond highlights which complement my skin tone and bring out the gold in my eyes. To make things that much better.... my hair is healthy and looks shiny all the time. I also, have her cut my hair. It is long and thick. She gives me long layers which fall into place with growth. A la Giselle! She has a caring personality and will listen to what you are trying to achieve. She will make you look the best you can look. I highly recommend her. more

ELANA ELANA ELANA FOR COLOR!!! 12/28/2008

Im a Leo and anyone who knows Leos knows how picky we are about our mane...I mean hair! Thus, I will not go to anyone who I cant trust implicitly with it. So here's the story...Ive been going to Labrecque's for a few years. I started there as a model. On the day of my first appointment I was walking down the street towards the salon and saw a girl go inside who had the most amazing red hair id ever seen. a little backstory, I am a dark blonde but decided I would try a red ""gloss"" at a cheap salon near my work. How much damage could they do? It's only temporary, right? Wrong, they turned it pinkish red. Yeah...I was beside myself. Flash forward...so I see this girl go in and I go upstairs thinking that Im going to tell my stylist that I was that girl's hair, except...the girl IS my stylist. That day my hair affair started with Elana. She gave me the most beautiful red that I'd ever seen. I cant tell you how many compliments I got (or how many people thought it was real!) Anyway, I continued getting the red for about two years but recently I thought of easing back to blonde. So i let the red fade and grow out a lot. I made an appoinment with Elana finally for highlights to ease back into blonde. I was nervous even though she'd never done me wrong with the red, but it was a transition! Long story short (well not really) I LOVE LOVE the highlights she did. Now I have to go on and on about what a color GENIUS Elana is!! She just gets it. I feel silly for ever doubting that she could take me back to blonde effortlessly. As a person she is also beautiful and down to earth, no frills, just classic beautiful color that never looks bad even after it fades. Ive gone on too long but needless to say I recommend that anyone who is considering a color change or ever just touch up go to Elana...worth every penny. more

See Shin. She is the bomb! 11/16/2008

One of my acquaintances has been going to Shin for years and she was always recommending that I see her. I caved and finally went to Shin for the first time in June ... and I will never let another stylist touch my hair again. Pros: Awesome haircut Cons: Sometimes rude receptionist more

Great student night 11/4/2008

I signed for the student night in the salon and went for full highlights. I don't dye easily. Georgia was my student and she really rocks. She did a perfect job, exactly what I wanted, in only a couple of hours I was out with fantastic new highlights and blow-dry. This looks one of the best student programs in a great salon! I was able to book an appointment in a week only, so not even long waiting lists Pros: Georgia is great. Cons: none more

FIVE STARS FOR SHIN 10/6/2008

I have always had a Love-and-Hate relationship with this Salon. All the professionals in the hair and skin departments are great. The front desk, on the other hand, is not so great (although, they are improving). I have been going to SHIN for years and she is the ONLY person that I trust with my hair. She can do anything (cut, color, style) and she is quick and extremely precise. Her forte: cuts that look amazing, not only when you walk out of the salon, but continue looking great when they grow out. I can go weeks without cutting my hair and it still looks great... not to mention that her styles are always easy to style. Pros: SHIN Cons: The Front Desk more

I LOVE Shin! 9/14/2008

I have been going to Shin at this salon for years. It is not inexpensive but there are reasons that people who have moved away to places like Cleveland fly back to NYC to see her. The salon is beautiful, I have never had to wait, everyone has always been super friendly and Paul's mud conditioner is the best. You can not go wrong with Shin for color or cut. She is perfectionist! Pros: My girl Shin Cons: Pricey but worth it if you can afford more
