Great food with great service 10/16/2007

we came here on a weekend night and were seated promptly. the restaurant has two floors, so there are many tables to choose from. The food was amazing and the prices were very reasonable. i would recommend taking advantage of their daily specials (especially the meatball sandwich.. YUMM!!). Our waitress was very attentive and helpful.... I've come to Park Chow many times and have always left happy. Pros: Incredible food, prompt service, very friendly staff. more

Great Food, Worst Service 7/20/2007

a restaurant that has good food but the service is TERRIBLE! I have been coming to this place for years now, but not until just the last few times of coming when i noticed that the service are just going downhill. This place has a lot of memories but i am not quite sure if i can take the bad service that the waitresses give. When you come in and it has been more than 5 minutes before you get your first glass of water, just expect for the worse. I love the ginger cake dessert but hope that you don't get the one that has burned buttom. more

Best Lunch Place 11/9/2006

Definitely, this will be my regular restaurant. Staffs are nice and menu are decent. My favorite was Grilled Chicken! Chicken was so juicy and tender. Price is OK. Very nice atomosphere. They have kids menu as well as smaller portion. So, parents can bring children while they have good wine! This is my favorite one! Pros: Atomosphere, Food Cons: Not Very Cheap more

Not ""kid friendly"" 10/23/2006

I went to Park Chow with my 3 year old son and 5 month old daughter. I was not offered a booster seat for my 3 year old son but was given a coloring sheet with crayons. He sat on his knees in the chair and began coloring. He then fell off the chair and bumped his head on the ground and began to scream and cry at the top of his lungs. I quickly picked him up and felt the huge goose egg on the back of his head. No one came over to see if he was okay, if he needed ice or if there was anything they could do. I started feeling desperate and really needing to get the ice and pressure on his head but still no one even looked my way. I called someone over and said my son fell and bumped his head, please bring me some ice. The waitress then brought a cup of ice (great). I said can you bring me a cloth to put it in and she gave me a look as though I was a demanding, and dramatic customer. Finally she brought a wet rag from the bar. I asked if it was dirty and again she gave me a mean look and said no. Finally smeone brought some ice in a plastic bag but then walked away. Feeling scared for my son and completely unsupported, I put my screaming son in the stroller at which point my 5 month old also began to cry. The food had just arrived. I walked out of the restaurant and sat on a step on 9th Avenue and held the ice pack on my son's head. A few minutes later a manager came out and apologized profusely. She said she had a child and knew how scary it was for me. I was very grateful for her support until my husband came to pick us up. I hope she can coach the waiters about how to handle that type of situation Unfortunately, I just don't have a good feeling about the restaurant anymore and won't be back. more

Painfully, a disappointment. 9/2/2006

I was really excited about Park Chow. It would be my second visit and I remember the first time being just ok, so I wanted this time to be awesome. Especially since the reviews sounded so great. Pros: Great decor and ambience Cons: just ok food, staff wasm more

Awesome food 8/27/2006

We loved this place. Pastas and fish are sure pleasers!!!...They use the right amount of seasoning and spice in all of their dishes. the staff is always friendly and representative of the beautiful diversity of San Francisco. Pros: food and service Cons: difficult parking more

Rude people answering phone, ruined party. 8/14/2006

I attempted to book a birthday party there for a friend. We called ahead and asked for a reservation, a rude person who couldn't care less answered the phone and told us that they don't take reservations. Pros: Lively area Cons: Terrible service, Rude Stuff, Hard to find parking more

Good but overrated 8/14/2006

I've been here numerous times. I agree that it is overrated but it is a decent place to meet friends. The only things I consistently recommend is the short-ribs and the ginger cake with spice ice cream. more

Comfort food, reasonably priced but food quality is inconsistent. 8/13/2006

Great sparerib stew. Anything asian related, I didn't like. The ginger cake and pumpkin ice cream is tasty. I would go to Park Chow just to eat that again. Overall I like the comfort food and that fact that it's reasonably priced. The service isn't consistent but it's nothing to complain about unless you're a service snob. Pros: comfort food for reasonable price Cons: parking, inconsistent food quality more

Why is this place so popular? 7/31/2006

Lots of wait time for average food and a noisy ambiance. Breakfast is decent but stay away from the larger dinners. Chicken was burned and Tai noodles were spaghetti and peanut butter. Pros: Location Cons: To pricey and crowded more

Comfort at a Great Value 5/8/2006

Park Chow is a comfortable place, not too loud, and yet bustling with activity and warm family-like ambiance. The food is delicious and reminiscent of childhood favorites, but with a cosmopolitan twist. One of my favorites. Pros: atmosphere, food, value more

Way Over Rated 1/5/2006

Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was casual. The food was just flat-out disappointing. I do not understand why this place gets consistently good reviews. Save your money and spend it somewhere else. more

Comfort food, taste good? Not necessarily. 10/2/2005

Have tried Chow about 3-4x over the years and always disappointed. Why this place garnishes rave reviews by some and makes it on the 2005 SF Chronicle Top 100 list, is beyond me. The caesar salad was good but not an authentic caesar dressing. The seafood cioppino had a couple of mussles which tasted spoiled. The polenta was good. The Thai chicken noodle was spicy, tangy and watery. When it arrived, I thought it was another pasta dish served in soup. The minnestrone soup was pretty good. Perhaps this is an enjoyable place because of it's homey, casual atmosphere. Reminds me of a ski lodge with upside down light scones on the wall and an awful pea-soup green paint job. I, for one, plan not to return to give Chow another chance. Thumbs down. Meal for 2, no wine = $32. Our waitress was friendly. Pros: reasonable price, very casual, fireplace Cons: bad parking, mediocre food more

a perennial favorite 8/15/2005

When I'm craving something better than cheap eats and something less than dining out in earnest, I head straight for Chow or Park Chow. I haven't gone wrong here yet, and neither have any of my friends, but my personal mainstays are the pork chops with polenta and the ginger cake with pumpkin ice cream. The place is constantly packed, but the service is always cheerful and attentive, and I've rarely waited more than a few minutes (admittedly I'm usually in a group of 2-4). Tips: Park on Lincoln alongside Golden Gate Park if you're having trouble; also, try eating at the bar if you're just one or two people. Pros: great food for price, friendly waitstaff, fun & cozy atmosphere Cons: parking (kinda), crowded & noisy more

Cheap But Bad Food!!! 7/27/2005

The pasta is terrible it felt and tasted like a big glob of glue. also there is no service to speak of. more
