Best

I've been going down to this area with my family for 15 years if not more. I must say after going so many times, even to this day it never gets old. I love being on the wide open ...

Worst

I think the people who write most of the reviews must be realtors trying to rent out their homes. The Outerbanks is overcrowded with little for families to do other than go to th...

Nags Head Beaches WOW!!!! 7/9/2002

We have been vacationing in Nags Head for the last 10 years. We have always rented a house in Nags Head and love the freedom it gives you. The houses we have rented are always the only house on the property so when you step out onto the beach, that section is your. I read some of the reviews stating that the price for a meal is too high. I will admit we have seen prices go up, try renting a house so you can do some meals at home. Even the more expensive homes can be rented inexpensively if you have more than one couple. For peace and quiet, stay south or north of KH/KDH. Also keep in mind, things close up early here. But who couldn't fall in love with a place that has a Brew Thru!!!! Hope everyones vacations are as memorable as ours! Pros: Clean Beaches, Wild Horses, Lazy Days more

Heaven on Earth 7/9/2002

The Outer Banks is absolutely Heaven on Earth. Clean peaceful beaches. If your looking for a truly restful vacation spot ... this is the place. Pros: Great Beaches, Friendly People, Great Restaurants more

Idiots even go to OBX 7/4/2002

These negative reviews are hilarious and had me laughing out loud. It seems most bad expieriances involved restaurants and traffic and hurricanes. Well, if you are only going to OBX to eat and shop you may as well stay home and go to the mall. My 1st anniv. was on Ocracoke and despite Floyd shortening our stay and a tr. depression flooding the whole island it was still one of the best vacations ever. Cramped beaches? Too many gulls I guess. Best place ever from Oc. to Carova. Pros: House rentals, pristine beaches, fishing more

Best summer surf in east 6/29/2002

Having surfed world wide I love the area and it's waves. Not world class interms of size but the total set up makes it one of the best summer wave locations in the USA. Lots of good uncrowded sand bars that produce quality at different tides along with warm water and friendly people. I live in SoCal and would rather surf the outer banks in the summer than any SoCal breaks. To bad it's 3000 miles away! Pros: Uncrowed beachs, cheap camping, great food Cons: bugs, Flordia surfers more

BAM!!! Like A/C in the middle of summer! 6/28/2002

Man, what can I say ? I am from Indianapolis, 1000 miles one way to Waves/Salvo/Avon/Hatteras but the drive is worth every freaking second!!! (even with two kids under 5 in the car). Like many I am not a fan of Atlantic beaches. I have been to Mexico, Florida, from RI to GA, WA, OR, CA and Hawaii beaches and the only ones that compare are Hawaii. That being said, I can't drive to Hawaii and when I get there it is MUCH MORE expensive. Ocracoke is almost magical. Can it really exist in the manner in today's world. I am presently on active duty in the military on the Left Coast and am counting the days to when we can get back. The Lord has truly touched and protected the OBX and it's lucky inhabitants. (be advised-this review is concerning OBX south of the KDH-Kitty Hawk metro-mess and development). Pros: Beauty, uncrowded, reasonable Cons: somewhat isolated, plan early!, ? more

Dont Miss IT!!!!!! 6/27/2002

My wife and I rented a cottage last summer...It was Great the weather was great the people were great......Do visit Ocracoke!!! great Food and drink! This year we went to FL and all we did was regret not going to OBX! Pros: great food, nice people, great value Cons: no life gaurds, sparse restaurants more

It's the only place on earth 6/26/2002

other than where I am now that I would go to live. It is another world. I feel like I am standing on the edge of the earth when I arrive and have my feet on water's edge. more

Take it from an OBX native... 6/26/2002

I agree that this is one of the best beaches...check out Coquina Beach, right across from Bodie (pronounced Body) Island Lighthouse and then meet the boats coming in from a day offshore to see their catch at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center a few more miles down the road. Also, Dare Co. Airport has a museum to stop in and see when you visit the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island and the Lost Colony/Elizabethan Gardens. The Centennial Celebration of the First Flight is coming up in 2003, so make your reservations now to volunteer at the airport! Pros: Good prkng -S Beaches, Lots of activities, NewBridge in progress Cons: Expensive oceanfront, New bridge construct., traffic on the bypass more

Eat, drink, & be merry! 6/24/2002

Need a great place to land and relax? Ocracoke Island is the place. Try the Jolly Roger restaurant for lunch or dinner while watching the sunset. Stay in any number of places that will treat you right; The Island Inn, Silver Lake Inn and Motel. The best quick and hearty family breakfast is at Pony Island. The island is full of history, go out and find it. Don't miss the spectacular fishing; go out on a large boat, Miss Ocracoke, or try a smaller one, the Fish Tale with Captain John. He's great with the kids. Tell them LISA sent you! Pros: Pristine environment, Spectacular beaches, Mixed accomodation Cons: Long car drive, Need bug spray more

pretty 6/14/2002

wonderful place to visit for the whole family, you need at least a week to see it Pros: beaches, camping, food Cons: wind more

OBX IS A MUST! 6/13/2002

My Family and I just got back from the Outer Banks. We had a wonderful week there - perfect weather everyday. The beaches and ocean was breathtaking! I did not know this place existed and I can't wait to go back. So much history has been created in this area. Everyone must visit it at least once in their lifetime. more
