I went in to One's a Meal with some friends late one night expecting some reasonable fare and good service. To start, The food took a long time, was served lukewarm, and by await staff so overworked that they were visibly sweating onto the food and guests as they served it! Gross.
As it was time to pay, i approached the Greek owner at the cashier to cover the tab and my friends waited right outside in the parking lot next to the vehicle talking. Both of my credit cards were declined. I explained that I only had some of the cash and I would step outside to gather the rest from my friends. He began to give me a suspicious look which made no sense at all. As i was getting the cash together, we all turned around to see the owner standing LESS THAN 5 FEET FROM US By OUR CAR giving us an angry look. I handed him the cash for the bill and said,
"" You should know better than to follow a guest outside for any reason."" He promptly replied, "" You should get some decent credit cards !"" and stormed back inside.
For anyone that is not aware, one of the MOST important rules of operating a restaurant is to never ever follow guests outside for any reason, whether intoxication, walking the check, regardless of the reason. It is illegal, unsafe, and poor etiquette. The owner has no legal power other than to call the police or walk next door to the HPD station if he feels someone has just walked the check. In all my years as restaurant management student or working in restaurants I have never seen a single action go against all legal, etiquette, and common precautions for restauranteurs.
It baffles me that this muppet owner has been around this long and still has no decency, embarrassing patrons by following them outside as they trying to solve a situation. I hope one day One's a meal can provide some real service! Avoid at all costs Houston!
Cons: Slow service /refills, unsanitary staff, OWNER CHASES GUESTS
