I lived in Old Main apartments for three years and had a great experience. The apartment was big, roomy and comfortable. And despite being surrounded by college kids, I almost never had a noise complaint or hassle with another resident. In fact, I met a couple of my best friends while living in Old Main. The pool was fabulous. I rehabbed a dislocated elbow in that pool during the summer of 2005. And the pool had long hours. I could swim until 10 p.m., which was great when I had to work night shifts for freelance assignments. I had a niggling problem with my air conditioner, but the staff responded super fast and kept my home comfortable. I never had a problem. The manager when I left, Kathryn, was very polite and professional. She helped me get things done and generally made life easy. Plus, the neighborhood is improving everyday. There are a couple of cool coffee shops, a nice pizza joint and a pair of good chain sandwich joints. It's a great community and living next to Drake is really vibrant. Sometimes the University sends out free activity passes so you can attend Drake events, including men's and women's basketball games, for free. There's a lot of culture and diversity at Drake and the neighborhood. I couldn't have been happier.
Pros: Location next to Drake, neighbors, pool and spaces for a one bedroom apartment.
Cons: Air conditioning systems are outdated.
