a take on italian 6/27/2011

First two things are a constant - the zucca chips will shock you with goodness and the lines on weekends. I would also agree that the tables do tend to be more cramped then others but its not as bad as it used to be. So either wait longer to get in and sit down or sit family style with an inch in between tables. I'd rather wait. They also feature a very good steak, outside of that you must always ask about the dishes as they are prepared differently than Italian food you may have had in the past. I'm told it a modern twist, but it seems something you would find in california. more

Great Food, Awesome Happy Hour Prices 11/6/2010

The ambiance was nice and the service was very good, too. We had the zucchini chips (excellent) for an appetizer and the (amazing) goat cheese and fig pizza. The cost for both of those during happy hour was only about $10! Will DEFINITELY go back. more

Terrible- Waste of Time 11/6/2009

I go to the Domain a lot and have always walked by Nroth and it seemed it like a good place since there was always people inside but after my dining experience, I wish I hadn't. My wife and I got sat inside by the open window at a tiny table that could barely hold all our plates and glasses. The waiter was very pushy and we couldn't enjoy our expensive, overly priced dinner. And besides the table being way too tiny, we were being attacked by flies the whole time. The tables inside are too close together and it was very loud. After speaking to the main manager about the situation, he didn't do much to make our dinner any more suitable. My wife and I left very disappointed and I don't think we will be back. If you want pushy service, flies in your face, and expensive food, then this is your place to go. I will say this though-the food was good. Wish the rest of the restaurant would catch up to the quality of the kitchen. more

Best food at The Domain 12/28/2008

Service & food is ALWAYS exceptional at this great spot. Outdoor seating is the best as are the Zucca chips! more

Great food, a little noisy 11/2/2008

My wife and I have been 3 times. The food has been consistently good, though not the best Italian I've ever had. The biggest complaint I have is that hey have really crammed too many tables in the place -- I always feel like the people at the nesxt table are dining with me. The large number of tables has also made the place VERY loud. Pros: Good food Cons: Space is cramped -- tables too close more

Kind of expensive, good food 9/29/2008

We recently took my daughter & her friend for her birthday. I was pleasantly surprised that our waitperson charged the kiddie price on the pizzas that she & her friend ordered (cheese, pepperoni) - it's been a while, but it was less than 1/2 the adult price. Pepperoni was a buck or two additional. Pros: good food, cool people watching Cons: no reservations, long wait more

Service is for the flies .. or the birds .. 9/2/2008

I am not usually the one to rant and rave, but I had to rip this joint everywhere I could. I have not experienced service this crappy since .. well .. I don't know when. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Flies, services, manager more

Very good food; Great service! 6/30/2008

We have been to North twice now and love it. Our waitress was awesome the first time we went. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the Osso Bucco is not worth ordering. It is good, but tastes like oven roast (very good oven roast, but roast nontheless). Pros: Great food; great service; great drinks Cons: Loud, crowded more

Good trendy,modern italian food 4/20/2008

The atmosphere and decor at NoRTH is great, very modern, yet not over the top. The wait on a Friday night was 20 minutes, not too bad at all considering they don't take reservations. Our waiter was excellent. Pros: Good food and atmosphere Cons: Price, food not spectacular more

Horrible waiter, pretty good food 2/5/2008

My friend raved about North. It was good. Diverse, interesting wine list. Comfortable and trendy ambiance. I asked if the Risotto was oily and our waiter assured me it was not- it was. Our waitor, spilled olive oil on me, asked me to hand him the wine list in mid-bite. He wanted us to buy the more expensive bottle of wine, yet he would not explain why it was better, just that is was $11 more. This particular waiter also told my friend (it was her birthday) that the glass of wine she had chosen he did not like as it tasted like twigs! I am from NYC, but geeze have some class kid! Note to your manager- if someone is enjoying their wine- leave them alone do not offer opinion. If I eat here again, I will ask for a different waiter. Pros: Fun atmosphere, good food Cons: Worlds worst waiter more

Great New Place 1/14/2008

I had lunch outside at NoRTH over the weekend and the food and service were both great. I'm always looking for places that are innovative with their menu (tired of eating the same butternut squash ravioli everywhere!) and NoRTH has done just that. It's not even all that expensive- my husband and I had 2 appetizers and pizza and a side and 2 beers for about $35. The pizza (mushroom, arugala and romano cheese) was super-thin crust and fantastically light and flavorful. We'll definitely go back. Pros: great food, attentive service Cons: building/patio are on the smaller side more

Excellent Northern Italian food with a Enoteca style wine bar with great selection and fantastic food! 12/1/2007

My wife and I went to NoRTH after some rushed XMas shopping, the kind where your feet hurt. NoRTH is a nice little restaurant with and excellent and for Austin untypical broad assortment of Italian and French wines for a fairly good price. Normally I don't like chain restaurants, but NoRTH has a lot to offer. The food was wonderful, my wife had the fish of the day a Amberjack topped with tuna and some nice not to heavy creamy spinach. I had the Osso Bucco with with polenta. I can only say Excellent. The waiters are very attentive (almost a little to attentive) and surprisingly know a lot about some of the not so common wine choices. So a great place to stop by after shopping for a nice dinner. The ambiance is a little new age, but surprisingly comfortable. All in all a very good experience and fairly inexpensive for all we got including a not to pricy bottle of wine. Pros: Close to shops, sanctuary after a hard shopping day, great wine selection, service Cons: Parking, Noise level in the restaurant more

A great new lunch spot! 11/15/2007

Located in The Domain, I've visited NoRTH two times in the last month and both times have really enjoyed the experience - dining inside once, and outside the other. An ample selection of menu selections - the ones we've tried, including different pastas and oven-fired pizzas have all been excellent. Service is very punctual and professional, though not necessarily Austin ""friendly."" I plan to make NoRTH a regular stop - highly recommended! Pros: Tasty food Cons: Parking more
