THE BOYS AT NIRVANA 7/25/2004

Nirvana restaurant is one of the best restaurants in the castro the food is great, the retaurant is super cool and the heated garden patio is really cute and warm, but the best part of it is the BOYS that work there really cute and nice to you...MOST SEE IF YOU ARE IN THE CITY more

yummy! 7/22/2004

A romantic restaurant with a serene garden dining patio and flavorful noodle dishes that tantalizes the palate. The Man o Mango dish is my all-time favorite- a combination of sweet, tangy, and spicy. The specialty drinks are one of a kind and are blessed by the hands of yummy wait staff too! Pros: inexpensive, garden dining patio more

Saucy noodles, tasty boys 11/7/2003

What'd you expect for an $8 heaping bowl of tasty, saucy noodles served by hot boys? The wait is long, so what! Wiggle your way to the bar and slop down a fishbowl Cosmo and enjoy. The waiters are nice, unpretentious and generally very cute. Don't feel like going out to the bars but want to be social? Throw on a t-shirt, grab a friend and make an evening of it at Nirvana -- in fact, ask for patio seating so you have an extra long wait and can cuddle up under a heat lamp. You'll be totally trashed by the time you get a seat, plus you might meet some interesting strangers and you won't care if your mango chicken is a little overdone. It's the difference between dining and just eating. Pros: Cheap, Fun service, Huge, tasty drinks Cons: Hit or miss menu, Small bar area more

Totally worthless 10/19/2003

Why is it that almost every asian fusion place is just terrible? Everything about this place was bad, and it was really overpriced for the quality. We ordered cocktails, my Grey Goose Martini tasted like pure vodka with an olive and they wouldn't seat us until we paid our bar tab. Ridiculous! The steamed calamari salad had a dressing that tasted like pure vinegar, I coulnd't taste the basil or the chili. The Tiger Prawns Noodles, werern't tiger prawns and the noodles were so overcooked that they were mushy. The five spice chicken tasted something like peking duck, but was tasteless. The best thing I can say about this place is that the chicken was deboned nicely!! Take it from me, don't eat here. If you wanna eat Five Spice Chicken, the $8 a plate Cordon Blue on California and Polk is better. Pros: Deboned chicken Cons: Expensive, Poor Quality more

Bad Customer Service 8/1/2003

My friend was trying to set up a dinner for a birthday celebration dinner (15 people) and Nirvana was as difficult as possible. They threatened to charge $10 per person who didn't show up and when he cancelled the morning of, because they said that they could ""accomodate"" him at 10pm instead of 8pm, they threatened to charge his card. A friend of his had to call and negotiate that to not happen. Whatever happened to good customer service? In the end he decided to go with a more accomodating restaurant that was more than happy to have his business and not put those limitations on him. My personal experience is that the staff are (not were) snobby and made me wait 45 minutes...maybe I don't fit the Castro Clone look and thus I don't get the same service. Sad, sad, sad. Cons: Customer Service, Crowded, Overrated more

Nirvana! Great bang for my buck!!! 2/6/2003

Great Food! pretty dishes; we love the banana leaf sticky rice that comes with the Mango Glaze Chicken! We've been coming here for about 8 mos. now and we've never been disappointed! Great bar too! ( although the seating is limited) Go early to beat the crowds. Pros: outdoor patio, Great atmosphere, big noodle portions! Cons: smallish bar, drafty more

Nirvana's our new dive, man!!! 2/4/2003

I can't believe I've been living in the mission and didn't know of this place! Great twentysomething crowd, I feel at home! Oh, and the foods terrific too. Awsome Nirvana Colada's...yeah Nirvana rules! Pros: crowded, fun atmosphere, great drinks Cons: crowded, no parking more

Hardly Worthy of ithe Name Nirvana 2/2/2003

This restaurant was terrible. Saturday night we had 7:30 reservations, but did not get seated till 8:15 and didn't order for another 20 min. I ordered the sea bass, one of the most expensive things on the menu. I took one bite and could tell that the fish was bad. One other person at the table ordered it also and came to the conclusion that the fish was old. It tasted terrible. I understand that fish is not always fresh on a weeknight, but that's inexcusable for a saturday night. They let us order something else which we got after every else at the table was finished and then didn't even comp us the meal. Someone else ordered tofu curry noodles and the sauce was terrible and no one at the table would eat it. This place isn't even cheap for these awful noodles. I do not recommend it. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: awful food more

lives up to its name 9/12/2002

this place is consistently great - even when you have to wait for a table on the weekends, the drinks at the bar are fun and the food worth the wait. of course the back patio is perfect for a little hidden peace in the middle of the city. and the spring roll appetizers are a must. Pros: flavorful dishes, good service, patiopatiopatio Cons: expensive drinks, crowded more

noodles at nirvana 9/9/2002

the noodles are great. and appetizers are a MUST. ask to be seated on the outside patio. there is running water, greenery, and heating lamps. the cocktails are a little too sweet, but are still yummy. if you cant walk, take a cab. Pros: cute atmosphere, outside seating Cons: parking more

Service particularly good 8/10/2002

Nirvana is creative and affordable. Their ginger salad is one of my favorite foods in SF. What I especially like is the professionalism of the service. These are people that have waited before and know what they are doing. It makes the meal so much more pleasant. Pros: service, creative, inexpensive more

Great food, great price, hot waiters! 8/5/2002

I'm new to the Bay Area and still getting over the sticker shock at the restaurants. A friend brought me to Nirvana for dinner. We had a great meal and the price was very reasonable. The waiters are beautiful and the service is excellent. Pros: Inexpensive, Attractive waiters, Great service more

It is Nirvana!! 8/4/2002

My girlfriend and I started off with a couple of creative drinks that we terrific. nice casual atmosphere with excellent food and service. more

My entire family's favorite restaurant 7/1/2002

I'm not exaggerating that this is my entire family's favorite restaurant. My father, mother & brother all consider this the absolute best restaurant in the world! The green papaya salad, and the man-o-mango noodles (and also spicy curry noodles) are absolutely amazing. No words can properly describe them. Also, choose the spinach or egg noodles; apparently the regular noodles are from a package, while the green & yellow varieties are fresh. An excellent value, too. The only drawback is the frequent long wait. more
