Ninniku-Ya Garlic Restaurant

ok, this place is pretty ono, but man, i thought they were WAY overpriced. i can't even remember what i had (except that it had garlic in it, of course). i know there was a steak dish and something with mushrooms in there somewhere. i DID get to try the garlic ice cream, although it was the last sludgy bit stuck to the bottom of the container, so it was kind of gross and mealy. but flavor-wise, it was surprisingly good. i'd say at least try it once (if you really like garlic, esp. in dishes with honey or something sweet). but make sure they're not at the end of a container.... more

Upon recommendation of our friends, 5 of us went to the Niniku Ya Garlic Restaurant. Parking is free, but it's behind the restaurant or behind various other buildings off to the side. Look for the signs. Reservations are a must. Upon arriving, we were seated outside. This turned out to be peaceful and less smoky than in the restaurant itself. The salads were great. They're signature garlic bread ($7) had a nice presentation, but was not worth the price. Steaks were huge. Each couple shared a steak which was huge and served on a sizzling skillet. Also on the skillet were several cloves of garlic roasting in the juices. This method of cooking the garlic took the "bite" out of it and the finished product reminded me of roasted garlic. We were so full that we didn't have a chance to try the garlic ice cream. Our server mentioned that some people LOVE it, and some people hate it. We'd definitely go back. more
