The atmosphere will you take you back to the 70's or 80's. And so will the menu. This is not Italian food that one would find in Italy, but Italian food according to Americans. As...

Great Italian 3/17/2008

My wife, 4 and 2 year old are always made to feel welcome and at home. Nick always has smiles for my children and picks them up all the time. While we have not tried every dish, what we have tried across 7 years of dining has been excellent. Bread comes to the table shortly after being seated. The house dressing on the salad while occasionally varying is wonderful. The chicken parmesan is excellent and very filling. My wife is partial to the chicken romano. While we are not world travelers we have had our share of Italian food all over the world. We love Nick?s and can?t say we have ever had a bad meal or a bad experience. The prices are average if not cheaper than most chain Italian places. There are some things you should consider before going. While the customer is always right. If you are the kind of person that thinks the world revolves around you and your family you might be in for a wakeup call. While that old adage should be true, when your family is too loud or too obnoxious, then you lose the privilege of being right. Nick?s is a small, quaint, fine restaurant. While the noise level can rise on busy evenings, there are some tables that rise above the level of acceptable and can be asked to leave. While some might see an old house converted into an Italian food joint. The quality of food, the cozy atmosphere, and the excellent service rank it among many fine dining restaurants. Ask yourself would Morton's, The Palm, or Pino's allow you and your family to be unruly. Would those places not say anything to you? If you want to be oblivious go to Olive Garden or McDonalds where kids can run around and play. While Nick?s may not have the appearance of a posh fine dining establishment, you can see by Nick?s attitude and the attitude of people that dine there often. They all feel it is more of an upscale experience which warrants upscale manners not McDonalds manners. Wake up and smell the garlic people. Ever think the problem might be you?? Pros: Food, Bread, Salad Dressing Cons: Beer and Wine only no full bar more

Best authentic Italian at reasonable price 3/12/2008

I'd recommend Nick's to everybody (and have done so in the past). We've moved to Katy in 2002 from California and I've never had better food before or after moving here.\r Being native German I know what Italian food is supposed to taste like, and Nick hits the nail on it's head every time. Service is usually great, very attentive to our children (who know how to behave in public, especially at nice restaurants), too.\r Nick has only been nice to us and we always feel welcome whenever we decide to take a little road trip out there.\r The Prices are comparable to Hasta La Pasta or Carraba's, although Nick's can't really be compared with either of those chains. Pros: Finally real Italian Food!!! Cons: A bit tucked away in the sticks - the restaurant feels more like a trainstation waiting hall than a cozy restaurant, but the staff and food are well worth it more

food not memorable- sevice memorable because it was awful 2/22/2008

Food decent but had major indigestion after speaking with owner. I have never been treated so rudely.\r I really hope Nick wakes up or takes some kinda Zoloft or other type of happy pill. I hope you learn Nick that if you provide good service to 1 person they may tell 1 or 2 others, if you are rude and provide bad service they will tell 20! I will never return and make sure to tell of my friends not to waste time or money at this ....\r \r FYI Web site would not let me type what I really wanted to say Pros: bread Cons: owner, service more

Don't Bother 1/30/2008

We had a party of ten and the atmosphere, food and service was outstanding. No small feat; kudos to the staff.\r \r The only downside to this experience was a crass comment made discretely by Nick to a female at our table. It was rather upsetting, to say the least. When I brought this to Nick's attention prior to our departure, so as to obtain an explanation, he exploded in a rage.\r \r Needless to say, we will not be back. Such a shame that an overwhelmingly good meal was overshadowed by such a thoughtless comment.\r \r I've seen other reviews with references to his abusive and obnoxious behavior. No meal, no matter how good, is worth being so ill-treated, especially when I am paying for it.\r \r To me, this experience invalidates content on their home page, which states ""Nick received his early training in the hotel business in Greece and always noted when his bosses were kind and gracious to guests. Nick says, ?To me it was like school. I really appreciate when people come, and I like to make people feel welcome.?\r \r I would recommend that Nick attend a Dale Carnegie Human Relations course, or remain out of public view. more

Nothing special here at all! But bad service and rude owner 11/11/2007

Only one time is enough. The food was just average. I've visited many Italian restaurants from all over the states and this restaurant didn't stand out one bit. The only thing that did stand out is that the service is terrible. I was with my family, three kids and my wife, I told my waiter and another waiter that I didn't like my dish due to the overly lemon taste. They ignored me so I decided to just ignore it and eat my wifes dish instead. As I was paying I mentioned to the owner I didn't like my dish. He got rude, loud and defensive and this is not a way to behave as an owner. My kids were all around and my wife heard everything. He's lucky I wasn't by myself because normally I would made a big fuss. I am telling you the truth this restaurant has nothing special that you can't find at any other Itailian restaurant. Cons: Overpriced! Service is really terrible... more

Good for Nick 11/9/2007

Nick's restaurant or any good restaurant is not for little children. GET A SITTER! We plan on going back in December (6 of us) and we do leave the 3 children with a SITTER! I do not want to pay 300.00 for food and have screaming and crying kids while I am trying to enjoy a good meal. This is why they have McDonalds, Denny's, Luby's Caferteria...These are family type restaurants. If Nick sits children next to our table when we get a sitter for ours...we will ask to be moved or ask that the other table be moved. What Nick should do is people who insist on brining young children..put them in a back room and out of view of patrons who come in without children. If I want to hear loud children...I would stay at home.. Hope Nick sees this and makes a back room for families with young kids. more

Good Italian, rude owner..... 8/29/2007

The food is excellent, however the owner is very rude at times and is moody. To put it blunty... \r ""Nick"" has been nasty at least 3 times that I have been there. Do not go there with a large group\r or children.....I've never seem a restaurant owner with such a bad attitude....toward customers...!! Pros: Food is good Cons: Owner is rude at times more

Dont go there with young kids !!! 5/19/2007

We live close to this restaurant and had heard good things about it. For some time wanted to go there. We went this Saturday (19 May 2007), me and my wife with our about one-year old son, and unfortunately our experience was horrible. We noticed that our waitress was putting pressure on us to decide what to order, coming by very frequently. The pressure got worse as we started eating, several waiters coming by too often (I guess it was embarrassing for the same waiter to come by frequently) and always asking if we were done with any of the plates. It was still early, we sat there before 6pm and were done before 7:30pm and the place was still not full, so we were wondering why they were being so annoying. We noticed the owner talking rudely to the waiters, so we thought he was a little short-tempered and did not like guests staying too long. When we were almost done, the owner himself came and picked up our plates without even asking if we were done and brought our check. He was surprised I had not signed my credit card receipt yet after he came back a couple of minutes later! We complained to the owner about their attitude as we were leaving and his response was that our kid was too noisy and some more stuff about some of his best customers not wanting to listen to noisy kids. He admitted that nobody complained about us in the restaurant. I do not think our son is more noisy than any other 1-year-old and I think the restaurant was anyway so noisy I could not hear anything from the neighboring tables. We will not go back and I do not recommend this restaurant to anybody because with the owner's bad temper he can easily have problems with something else. It ruined our afternoon I hope people, especially with kids, will read this review and avoid the hassle.\r Cons: Owner's temper, service more

A Fine Establishment 3/30/2006

I have been a Sugarland resident for a large portion of my life. I was very pleaseantly surprised a number of years ago when I first visited Nick's. The food and atmosphere have been great consistently over the years. As far as the location is concerned, I find it refreshing that a place so nice can exist so far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city proper and major highways. I have often observed Nick traveling around the room visiting and making friendly conversation with his guests. I would definitle recommend this restaurant. The only drawback is that the place is not big enough to handle all the guests who love eating there. I have never had an unreasonable wait, but it would be worth it. Moreover, Nick has consistenly been adding on since it first opened. The place just keeps getting better! Pros: Food, Service, Location Cons: Size more

authentic gourmet Italian dishes 10/20/2005

The food is delicious. Neat and clean. Excellent service and cozy atmosphere. more

Molto buono 8/26/2005

Delicious food and wonderful service. I am a NY Italian gal and am very picky about my Italian restaurants, and I am impressed with Nick's! I recommend making reservations for peak hours on weekends. more

My favorite! 6/4/2005

Nick's is my favorite restaurant. The food is soooooooooo good. I can usually eat at a restaurant and then figure out how to prepare to food at home. I cannot get their chicken picata down. It is out of this world! My second favorite italian dish is the fetuccini alfredo and they have the best! And the house dressing is someting I often dream about. I also love the atmosphere, warmth and decor. I have always been treated like i am someone important no matter how busy they may be. Pros: food, atmosphere, decor more

Nicks is Great 6/10/2004

I love Nicks. The food is so good. From the crispy butterly garlic bread to the entrees everything has always been perfect. Nick is wonderful man who greets my family every time we come for dinner. The waitstaff is very attentive. The restaurant is small and gets very busy after 6:00PM on Saturday nights so I would recommend to get there early. Do not expect to call and reserve seating or call and get an accurate count as to how long you will have to wait because there is no way that any restaurant can predict that. Just get there early or your quit complaining! Pros: reasonable prices, great service, awesome garlic bread more

Great restaurant 5/12/2004

A previous reviewer made some claims about the owner of this restaurant which were completely false. While Nick will never win a Nobel prace price, the incident that night was the result of an obnoxious patron and many of us who were waiting, applauded when Nick asked him to leave. As for the restaurant, the food is wonderful and the waitstaff is equally good. As for Nick, when I first met him I thought he was pretty gruff. After I dined there a few times, I discovered that he was not only a great guy, but very entertaining as well. I dine at a lot of great restaurants across the country, but I always look forward to Nick's. Don't let some obnoxious patron, that got what they deserved cause you to miss a wonderful meal. Pros: food, wait staff, Nick more

Disappointed 2/10/2004

I was a witness to the rudeness that the owner Nick showed to a customer on Saturday night. I was appalled at the way he was handling this customer. From what I could see this customer appeared to be joking with the owner. Apparently, Nick doesn't need the business if he can run out customers like he did. And the food, and distance to get there isn't worth the treatment. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!! Cons: , Horrible Food more

Neighborhood Rest. with a Downtown Taste 12/14/2003

My wife and I dined at this place on a whim as we were in the neighborhood. We heard quite a bit about the place but never believed any of the raves about the food. To our surprise, the food is simply excellent , tasty and good portions. I had a Pistachio Crusted Chicken with mushroom and sundried tomatoes on a white lemony butter cream sauce that is just exquisite while my wife had a Sauteed and then grilled shrimp with lemon butter sauce served with vegetables and a side of pasta. The food can compete with the best Italian restaurants in town. The ambiance is neat as well, very rustic and doesn't feel like you're in TX. However, the owner Nick himself can learn a thing or two about being a wee bit nicer. Pros: Excellent food, Good portions, Nice ambiance Cons: Owner not very nice., Place is out of nowhe more
