When bad service happens to a good place 12/23/2010

I live very close to Mullanes, and I live for a great neighborhood spot that has very simple bar food to counter all of the fanciness that's out there. I order take out and delivery there pretty often I even take meetings there during the day when it's not as busy. I recently was completely disappointed when I went in to pick up a take out order and was treated very rudely who turned out to be the GM!! I walked in to pick up my order and it was visibly busy so I patiently waited for someone to come and take care of my pick up. The woman who came up gave me my total and I gave her cash (I barely paid attention to how much it was I just handed her some cash), she handed it off to the bar tender and told me that he would give me my change. I then waited for him to go get his food for people eating at the bar. I smiled at him when he looked over to let him know I was patiently waiting. Then I said that the woman who took my money gave it to him for change. He yells, ""SPEAK UP! WHAT?!"" I then repeated myself and he went to go get my change. He then scrunched up his face and yelled across the bar, ""46 CENTS!?!??!"" I finally lost my cool and and yelled back at him ""WHATEVER IT IS!!!!! YES!!!"" He handed me my change and said, ""Merry Christmas"" while rolling his eyes. As if! I ordered take out!! Was he assuming I shouldn't have waited for my change because it was busy in there? Because it was only 46 cents? Was I supposed to leave that change for him? Why? Because he was rude? Sorry dude. I waited for my change on a busy night. Didn't mean to put you out. How about this, I won't ever bother you again. Let's see how successful your business is if you make a habit of treating your local customers like that. I called in as soon as I got home and the woman I spoke with apologized and promised a call back. To be continued... more

Never Go Here! 7/19/2010

I had the worst dining experience of my life here. We ordered two burgers, one with sweet potato fries (which the menu says you can substitute) and a salad which the menu says is an appetizer. First the waiter asked the wrong person if he had gotten sweet potato fries and then they brought them as a separate side. We explained it was just with the burger but they didn't bring the salad until they brought one of the burgers and it was the wrong salad. they finally brought the right salad but with the wrong dressing, in the middle of one person's burger and the other person's burger still hadn't come by the time my friend was finished with his burger. so we went to complain and they were rude and offered us no compensation of any kind and we left without having had dinner. they are mean, stupid people who work there. Cons: Terrible service. more

Staff Nice, Owner Not A Nice Guy 5/12/2009

In Fort Greene, there are few pubs where you can view multiple events - you can here. Having lived in the neighborhood for ten years, this was a welcome addition. The staff are generally friendly, the owner is another story. His co-owner/wife in nice, but he's got some people issues. My friends and I have stopped going there as we've unfortunately witnessed him berate his staff for little reason on a few occasions. In fact, a few of their staff who we felt comfortable with are now gone - and none of the ""locals"" we've asked can get a reason why? All staff seem to cower in his presence, this is unfortunate for everybody. \r I wonder if they know how much business they're losing because of his obvious, classless behavior? Our money will be spent elsewhere! Pros: TV's for Sports, Spacious, Outside Seating Cons: Owner nasty towards his own staff more

Just One Block Away... 3/30/2009

and Mullanes will dump you! This bar and grill neighborhood spot is not so neighborly. The dining in atmosphere is good enough but when it comes to delivery, make sure you don’t fall short. Their delivery limit ends at Vanderbilt, I live on Clinton. We have run into this problem before but good ol’ Mullanes pulled through and agreed to deliver one block out side of their very serious limits. I was trying to explain to the woman who answered the phone , today, to take my delivery order and when she seemed still unsure, I offered to walk one block to Vanderbilt to meet the delivery person. Silly? Yes. Sarcastic? I was not. I had spent the day at the doctors and was tired and just wanted some delivery. After I suggest this, the woman put me on the phone with dun dun dun Ian. Ian had the pretentious fake polite customer service voice, and as someone who was being completely non-argumentative and who works in hospitality, I took it personally offensive. Ian told me that they ‘”must have limits” and suggested I come pick it up. I said thank you but that I wouldn’t be coming back at all.\r \r Mullanes is only decent and therefore maybe should be putting in a bit more effort to their clientele. \r \r Beware of Ian!\r Pros: decent bar and grill Cons: delivery limits and Ian more

Felt compelled to write my first review! 11/25/2008

Went in for dinner with three friends on Monday night and must say I really didn't want to leave! The burgers and nachos are the best ANYWHERE, and the staff is very attentive and polite. Great place for dinner with the family or just getting sloshed and watching a game on their HUGE high def projection screen! I guess this means Fort Greene is moving in the right direction. Pros: Service, Ambience, Great locale, All the big games Cons: A little pricey but worth it more

A great social gathering. 11/5/2008

I enjoy coming to this place. Their veggie and turkey burger are great along with their dipping sauce for their fries. I always have a good time when i go. The staff is very friendly and relaxed. My server was nice, and made me feel like a friend, though I can't remember his name. The atmosphere is perfect for meeting up with some friends, getting your weekend started or having a nice dinner. I like their music selection as well, it's as diverse at Fort Greene. more

Nice place, but rude owner. 8/17/2008

Good food, decent beer and drink selection. Most of the servers are great, but I have found the owner to be quite rude and pushy on several occasions. Not just with customers, but with his staff. Overall, though, a good neighborhood spot. Great place to watch footbal with the big screen in the back. more

Editorial review from GrubHub 4/1/2008

I can't say enough bad things about Mullane's. I had the worst service of my life here. They twice brought a side we didn't order, brought us the wrong salad, blamed it on us, put on the wrong salad dressing even after we corrected them, never brought my burger and were rude about the whole thing. more

much needed sports bar for the neighborhood 11/12/2007

nice atmosphere, lots of good tvs around for sports watching. great and much needed addition to the neighborhood. decent bar menu, could have a slightly more interesting beer selection (hey, how about our local clinton hill brewery: Kelso?). also, was that nacho cheese sauce mixed in with a pinch of real cheese on the nachos? such a potentially good snack gone bad! tsk tsk! hope that won't happen again.... more

always a fun time. 9/10/2007

I go into mullanes a lot. I go because of a number of different reasons. The first time i went in there the owner came up to me (obviously recognizing a new face) and introduced himself. I automatically felt right at home. the number of beers there are countless. the food is awsome. i have not tried the entire menu but everything i have had has been excellent. the cobb salad is to die for. the service is always friendly/prompt and i never leave the place not wanting to stay for one more drink. i have been there for the super bowl, the oscars, and the nba finals and will continue to go there much more. Pros: everything Cons: i cant spend the night more

Plenty of seating and big TVs. Not so good cocktails. Decent food! 8/15/2007

Mullane's is big and clean. It really has a sports bar feel to it--dark wood, large TVs, full bar--and it's pretty standard fare. The beers, of course, are good. They have a pretty well-balanced selection, with a few good microbrews, as well as lite beers. The cocktails I've had there were terrible. There was a pomegranate martini special which was so disgusting that I just asked for straight vodka after that. You can't go wrong on the beers though, and the finger food is on point. I recommend the nachos! There's also outside seating, as well as a huge inside seating area past the bar, so if you're looking for a place where you can find a quiet corner to yourself, this is it. Pros: Lots of room and tons of seating. Good decor and really clean. Cons: None really. All around, it's a good hangout spot! more

dont miss out!! 8/8/2007

well what can i say, a group of us stopped by this cozy irish ,american bar just in time for happy hour, which i think went from 4-7p.m.,anyway we had plans for later on that evening but they all fell by the wayside,we eventually left around midnight, after deciding to stay and sample the excellent cuisine,.the flavours where mouthwatering, and a fantastic choice of burgers, and to top it all very good service, any extras we needed where dealt with without a whim, was like bieng locked away in your own little cocoon, with the mood, the decor ,and not forgetting great cocktails ,just melting the hours away,..this is now going to be a regular occurrence cant wait!!! Pros: all more

Wonderful evening 8/7/2007

My friends and I went to dinner here the other night. We had a wonderful evening. The food was great. The burgers were great, nice and juicy. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeble about the food, She let us know that the french fries were hand cut and not frozen. That makes a big difference. The service was fast and efficient and the bar made excellent drinks. We definately will be going back again. Thanks for a wonderful evening. Pros: ambience, service, food Cons: nothing :) more

Every neighborhood should have a friendly Irish pub, and this one in Fort Greene tosses in a bevy of American bar food to round out the menu. Fish and chips and shepherds pie...
