I have never left with a worse taste in my mouth. 11/22/2010

I took the time to create a city search account just to write this review. Enough said. This establishment, it's owner and management are disgrace to Buffalo. The owner is downright rude and unprofessional to say the least. I'm native to Buffalo, have dined across the country and through out Europe. I have never been left with a worse taste in my mouth. The words ""Do you think I need your business?"" actually came out of the owner's mouth. Please, do not give this establishment you business. more

Pleasant Surprise 3/29/2010

My friend and I were staying the night in Buffalo after a Sabres game.\r \r We had just come from another local bar (with the name chocolate in it) where we we throughly disappointed!\r \r We walked into Mothers with NO expectations. \r The bar staff were amazing. My glass was never empty. \r \r The food menu had so many great options, it was difficult for me to make my final decision. That being said, my friend and I took our meals back to our Hotel to enjoy. Mouthwatering. \r \r I look forward to going again. Pros: Excellent Service/Very Attentive Bar Staff more

Disappointed & Shocked 2/4/2010

My sister would rave about this place-so finally i went there. ehh it was ok the first time; but when my boyfriend, myself and another couple went to go eat after going to a bar down the street on a sat. night at 1am- they took one look at us and claimed that the ""we just closed the kitchen.."" , which is fine considering most restraurants aren't open at that time, and actually serving food-but this place is KNOWN for being the one great place you can go for a steak into the wee hours of the night; and all they did was look at us, then look around [the dining room was basically empty besides one table a couple was sitting at-but there was a full bar] and say, kitchen's closed. I guess I'm getting a little worked up for them just saying that; but this place has a huge reputation for cattering to the night life scene and on a saturday they were not interested in helping us at all-and did it in a rude sort of manner. Basically all I'm saying is that after that incident it put a horrible taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll be going back there until they clean up their act. I felt insulted and made a fool of when I claimed they were a great place to grab a bit to eat. ... BIT MISTAKE more

Extreme let down 1/13/2010

There seems to be a pattern here with all of these reviews. One I myself, sad to say knows all to well. Let me start by saying I have been going to Mothers s for about 15 years or so and never in all those years have been treated as rudely(lack of a better word) as I was treated by my waitress a few months back. First of all dinner started with the 4 of us sitting at our table, ungreeted for around 20 minutes or so. When she finally did arrive of corse an apology was obviously beneath her or so she acted. We order a few bottle of wine, waited another 20mins. til she finally came back and took our order. The next time we saw her was when she came over to ask us to keep it down and that if we continued to be loud she would have to ask us to get our food to go.WHAT??!!!! First of all we were seated outside, second it was ten thirty at night on a monday, and third if she had been by our table once she would have herd that it was the table of five gentlemen next to us making all noise. I wish i could recall this servers name to warn anyone else who is planning on having a fun night out @ Mothers with their friends that they may want to request a new server in case they get sat in this awful persons section. Unless your planning to spend alot of money only to have your night ruined the way she did ours. All i can do is vaguely described her, skinny with short dirty blond hair and a terrible attitude from the get go.I think after being a 15 patron of Mothers, the only place you will find me in there is at the bar were they know how to treat people who are willing to spend the money for good service. more

Horrible Service! Kicked us out to ""Flip Tables"" 11/22/2009

I have been to Mothers many times before, and I was never a big fan. It's one of those Buffalo establishments that people just keep going back to. I guess that's why they feel that they can treat people so badly. \r \r I took my fiance and my friend out for a joint birthday dinner with a group of couples. I told the waiter before all of this that we had two birthdays here, and I was planning for a piece of dessert for my friend and fiance with a candle. He completley ignored me! \r \r Anyway, we ate our appetizers, ordered bottles of champagne, and all got entres. I went to the bathroom at the end of the meal. When I came back to the table I saw everyone was upset. My pregnant (obviously not drinking ) friend was telling a manager that he was rude and unprofessional to tell us they were ""flipping tables"". They actually had the nerve to tell us to leave so they could bring in another group instead!!!! They made us leave before we even had any chance to order dessert or coffee. Then they had the nerve to escort us out - like we had done something wrong! I will never go there again!!!!! Pros: Nothing Cons: Service, Average Food, Wait Staff, Attitude more

Hooked on Mothers 9/8/2009

I left Buffalo about 6 years ago to go to the metro Atlanta area and have missed the atmosphere at Mothers more than any other restaurant in Buffalo. My friends and I always got great service and great drinks there which is what makes a difference to me. I'm moving back to Buffalo in a few weeks and will be meeting several friends at Mothers the same night I get into town after a 14 hour drive. I'm looking forward to getting back to Buffalo and getting some of my fav dishes at Mothers. Pros: Great Drinks & Service Cons: Limited space more

Loved it 7/10/2009

I went to Mother's with a couple of friends last Fall 2008. We had never been there and just relied on it being some place new. We felt very under-dressed for the environment (business casual or formal is best) and weren't treated any differently. The service was great. The food was amazing, the environment is very pleasant, lighting is dim. It was not crowded when we went early around 7pm- by the end of the meal became pretty busy. The best part is you can hear yourself speak, unlike most places. You aren't seated like sardines. I speak very highly of Mother's. I expected it to be some sleazy Anchorbar, but it was fantastic. I'm returning tonight and will post again of any changes. Maybe some of these reviewers are a bit too pompous enjoy the experience. We'll see! Pros: Food and Service was excellent Cons: Pricey- but worth it. more

Just a whiff of homophobia? 6/20/2009

Having been numerous times to Mother's on various trips to Buffalo, I looked forward to yet another pleasant visit. After arriving a few minutes before our reservation time, my friend and I were told to wait to the side, though a few empty tables were set and ready. Other parties arrived, and were sat. Then two parties of two arrived, (each one man and one woman), and as I was near the hostess stand I over heard that neither party had a reservation. One of the parties was sat at a 4 top immediately, so at this point I leaned in and asked when we would be sat., and was told when our table was ready. I pointed out the 2nd available 4-top and was ignored. Couple #2 was then sat there.. Finally after a total of 20 minutes waiting time we were ushered to a small 2-top directly next to the full bar. Thus affording us an excellent view of all the bar patrons pants labels, and hem heights. While one of the 'straight' couples at the 4 top, were enjoying their Miller High Life, clad in concert t-shirts. We were basically ignored after I complained that a tipsy bar patron had knocked over our bottle of pinot with his backside. Were our button down shirts too tight? Our Manhattan hipster-Chelsea-boy image too polished? We certainly didn't imitate the 'High Life' couple as they groped each other between swigs. So as a one time regular (meaning that whenever I was in town), I'm thinking for our up coming trip next week, I'll skip the 3rd class treatment at Mother's, and maybe try Hutch's instead.. or Curley's in Lakawana.. another fun place. Pros: pleasant fare, late night dining, a 'scene' Cons: spotty service, and as follows; more

Still a great place to eat!!! 6/2/2009

There food was amazing last night. The server was on top of his game, excellent service. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, and the outside patio is a must in the summer. The food is a little pricey but definitely worth it......This place is not like a Hard Rock Cafe, not sure who thinks it is lol Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Think Twice before spending an evening at Mother's 1/28/2009

Think twice before going to Mother's........Extremely bad service. Seems to rest on ""reputation"" and has taken a back seat to quality service. If you are going to go to a fine restaurant in Buffalo, you expect decent service and good food. Not at Mother's. I have never spent as much money for such poor service and mediocre food. Very disappointed. Many other restaurants I will frequent. I will not support such poor service. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service, management, food more

HORRIBLE!! 1/26/2009

Mother's has gone way down hill...Awful service, that is my number one complaint. Food was cold service was so bad more

HORRIBLE SERVICE 9/14/2008

HORRIBLE SERVICE\r \r THE YOUNG WAITRESS BROUGHT OUR FOOD AND NEVER RETURNED UNTIL SHE GAVE US THE BILL ! OUR STEAK WAS ORDERED ""MEDIUM"" AND THE THING WAS MOOOING AND BLOODY ! WE WERE PARCHED FROM THIRST AS SHE NEVER REFILLED OUR COCKTAILS...WHEN WE MENTIONED HER LACK OF SERVICE, SHE YELLED THAT "" SHE WAS AN ADULT"" ??? WHO CARES...HER SERVICE AND ATTITUDE WERE APPALLING...OVERPRICED, LOUSY, SNOOTY ATMOSPHERE..WAY OVERRATED more

This Place Rocks!! 8/14/2008

This place is cheap, delicious and amazing! I have dined in most major US cities along with several international cities and outside of Vegas I've never had a Steak & Lobster dinner for under $30 at 3:00 AM. I 've been back several times with consistent service / experiences, but no other place can offer this menu and pull it off with a smile as late as Mothers.. Thanks! Pros: Full menu later than anyone Cons: Not family friendly more

This restaurant is going downhill 12/31/2007

The bar is a great place to hang out and late night dinners are a plus, but don't expect a lot in the form of service. For a restaurant that charges as much as it does, I would hope that good service and warm food was included in the price. This used to be one of my favorite spots, but after the last few trips I think I'm holding off on going back for a while more

What happened to Mother's service?! 11/11/2007

What a huge disappointment!! I can't believe what happened to my family while dining at Mother's recently. My daughter was visiting from NYC with her boyfriend. He had never been to Buffalo before so we wanted to make the evening special. Mother's was on the top of our list of places to dine in Buffalo. We knew we could count on great food and service---wrong!!! I should also tell you that my daughter's boyfriend is a master sommelier and GM for a restaurant in NYC. A fact that made the following incident even more embarrassing.\r When we arrived, we were seated in a corner booth under a speaker. At first it was no problem; music was ok, if a little loud. At some point, the music changed into very loud unrecognizable, bad rock music--we had to shout at each other in order to have a conversation. The ""host"" was standing next to me so I asked him if he could do something about the music. His response was classic--he smirked at me, and told me that at that particular hour the music changes and that it was ""just the nature of the beast""!!! Say what? After a few moments, I asked the ""host"" what could be done. I (foolishly) thought that asking for a little problem solving ability and customer service wouldn't be out of the question since we had already racked up a rather large tab. Well.....not as far as our ""host"" was concerned. He just smirked and said that he would see about turning down the volume. When I pointed out to him that no one really seemed to be enjoying the music or responding to it--- again...big smirk....no action. My daughter and I were really embarrased after all the bragging we did about the great dining and friendly service you could count on in our city. At that point, we didn't feel like lingering over coffee and dessert. I don't remember ever being treated in such a rude manner. We won't be back anytime soon. By the way, the food..... not so good... Pros: location Cons: service more

what a disappointment 11/4/2007

I agree with another Citysearch review I just read. Mother's came highly recommended by a few people but the dinner I had there yesterday was awful. The creamed vegetable that accompanied my entree was stiff and c-o-l-d... they served what looked & tasted like old, oil-soaked home fries with the porterhouse steak I ordered... even the two onion rings that topped my steak were inedible. How does one screw up an onion ring? The quality of the meat was mediocre at best. Our waitress's hands reeked of cigarettes (nauseating). I was embarrassed to have brought my NYC foodie friends to this place - will most certainly not be returning. Pros: folks seemed to be having a great time at the bar Cons: quality & execution of cusine poor more

great bar, great for dinner, don't be scared by the outside. I love coming here on a friday night with friends. more

Don't Do It. 5/18/2007

We went to Mother's last night after hearing glowing recommendations from friends. \r I have to say it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The starters were terrible, the soup salty and thin, the salad overdressed, and the bread was not fresh. We could not hear each other due to bad placement of speakers in the dining area. \r After waiting for our entrees for an hour and fourty-five minutes we asked for the check. We told our rude waiter we no longer wanted our food. Several tables of diners who had arrived after us and ordered appetizers, wine, soup/salad, and entrees were finnished eating. We were then presented with the check for the entire meal ($150!) and forced to pay for food we did not eat! Pros: Seating Cons: Everything else more

Amazing food and beautiful place to eat. 11/19/2006

Mother's is a MUST. The newly remodeled bar is a great spot to grab a drink before dinner. The crowd is hip and happening. The restaurant is very romantic and the food is unbelievable. Try the courtyard in the summer. It's gorgeous! I have never been disappointed here and neither will you. If you want to impress, go to Mother's. Pros: Top notch meals and service Cons: Parking can be tricky more
