Monticelllo is a wonderfully preserved example of a Founding Father's home. What separates this home from so many like it is how much of the spirit of Thomas Jefferson can be seen through it - his inventions and innovations are still very much present in his house, and you can tell a lot about a man whose bed sits as a hole in the wall between his bedroom and his study. The grounds and gardens are quite lovely as well. Make sure to take one of the docent-guided tours - they can point out to you many things that make this home unique. Even if history isn't your thing, the quirky architecture is still worth checking out! Take the shuttle up the hill, but it's a lovely walk back down. Finally, make sure you check out the plant and seed areas of the gift shop for historical plant seeds and so forth.
