Monticello Home Of Thomas Jefferson

Monticelllo is a wonderfully preserved example of a Founding Father's home. What separates this home from so many like it is how much of the spirit of Thomas Jefferson can be seen through it - his inventions and innovations are still very much present in his house, and you can tell a lot about a man whose bed sits as a hole in the wall between his bedroom and his study. The grounds and gardens are quite lovely as well. Make sure to take one of the docent-guided tours - they can point out to you many things that make this home unique. Even if history isn't your thing, the quirky architecture is still worth checking out! Take the shuttle up the hill, but it's a lovely walk back down. Finally, make sure you check out the plant and seed areas of the gift shop for historical plant seeds and so forth. more

This home of Thomas Jefferson is magnificent. The landscape is beautiful as well as the architecture. I love following the history as you tour around the estate. They have done various archaeological digs and it is neat to see and hear what they have found. You get a guided tour through the house but you have to park far away because it is so popular. I think the price is way too high so I think one visit is enough. It is not a place that changes much over time. more

This place is okay. I think my impression is not as good as it could be because I ended up eating at the inn at the end of the tour and that was disgusting and over-priced. The tour is pretty nice and you see a lot of history. You also have access to a fair amount of the property and get some idea of how Jefferson and all his slaves may have lived in that century. At the end, there is a little store to buy souvenirs that have some nice period pieces. I don't think I would go again but it was a nice place to visit one time. more

We stopped at Thomas Jefferson's home Monticello recently.WOW! The home and plantation of Thomas Jefferson was marvelously restored. We were taken to the top of the mountain on a shuttle bus and were given a 45 min tour of the house by a guide. Thomas Jefferson was an astute person and had a very curious mind. We then took a tour of the lovely gardens...very large and very well marked. Mulberry Row also showed the slave life on the plantation. Plan on spending 3-4 hours there. more
