I don't know why some people think that the sushi here is good. I've had much better for a lower price (try Little Tokyo in the Village or even some places in Brooklyn). It is j...

nice to have to any neighborhood 2/2/2008

Lovely sushi and exquisite sake makes Mizu one of the hottest spots in the city. Settings are little tight but stuff is helpful and keeps you comfortable. Pros: tasty food, warm service Cons: elbow room more

Great sushi, Great staff 12/13/2007

Went for dinner at Mizu last night - great sushi, really fresh. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Restaurant was pretty crowded for a Wednesday night. Music selection is great, not too loud, but loud enough to enjoy. Pros: sushi, staff, atmosphere more

best sushi place in manhattan 11/1/2007

I love sushi. But I don't like paying $5000 per slice of fish. The sushi here literally melts in your mouth. SUPER fresh, super delicious, great service. I've been here many times and I have yet to be disappointed. Pros: Everything! Cons: I can't believe they are closed on Sundays =( more

Great sushi for a casual night 3/30/2007

Sometimes it's hard to find great sushi at a reasonable price in NYC. Mizu has always delivered. The hostess, sushi chefs, wait staff, and owner have always been up for keeping it special and/or fun for the occasion (we've done sake bombs with the owner to celebrate birthdays - 8 people!). Though the place is small and central (right by union sq) which means on weekend nights it gets crowded. The Agedashi Tofu is one of my favorite dishes and they make it beautifully and serve it perfect. I don't often get cooked food, normally rolls and sashimi, so I can't comment, but I can't imagine it being any different in terms of quality from their sushi. My favorite special rolls that they offer are Naruto, Crystal, and Yuki rolls. But every type of roll I've had in the 4 years I've been there has always been good. A couple things to keep in mind about the atmosphere, it's not a quiet restaurant. I think it has to do with the wood decor. In the winter since there isn't much standing room and people waiting crowd by the door, the tables by the door get a bit breezy. But during the summer, they keep it very well A/C'd. I love going to this place for Japanese food. Pros: food, service, value Cons: can be noisy, popular so crowded can be a wait more

Insane Ultimatum by Restaurant 3/11/2007

We liked the food and ordered Miitzo quite often and always had a bill of over 100.00. We'd tip the delivery guy 5.00 for walking across the street (they are on 20th, we're on 19th). Being that we gave them so much business we were shocked when we called in to place an order and were told we could no longer order food from their restaurant unless we tipped the delivery guy ""15-20%."" Pros: Good Sushi Cons: Everything Else more

Yes, the food is good but the greed made sure none of us ever ate there again. $15.00-$20.00 for carrying a bag across the street?! Pros: Good Sushi Cons: Everything Else more

Cheap & Good 1/13/2007

Had dinner on a Wednesday night, 8.30pm and the place was PACKED! Luckily, we had reservations, but unfortunately, still had to wait about 15 minutes. They also don't have a waiting area, so it got a bit tight. However, the hostess was so nice and apologetic. When we were seated, we were asked to move -- which was a bit annoying but since the place was so busy -- it was understandable. Things like this happen -- but again, the hostess was very accomodating and gave us a complimentary dish. I think the hostess apologetic attitude made the difficult decision easy. The food was surprisingly good. Had the vegetable dumplings, seaweed salad and a bunch of rolls. It was unbelievably cheap for the quality of the food and area. The service was okay. We had to ask for waters and teas -- which is a sign and I can't quite remember our server because she only came by once. Usually, Japanese restaurants are known for their service but I wasn't greatly impressed. The ambiance was fun and the music was not too loud. I would go back again - hopefully, not on such a crazy, busy night but would go back for cheap, good sushi. Pros: Rolls, Price, Hostess more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! 11/13/2006

UNBELIEVABLE! For the first time in my life, someone actually dared to ask for more tip. Right after we sat down, the menu and luke warm towels were THROWN at us. It's like we sat down at the wrong table or something, even though the place was nearly empty. Throughout the whole night, we had to constantly ask for more tea or water, even though there were three available waitors/waitresses. Our subtotal was $81, I gave $10, which was still a decent 12% tip. The waitress came back asked if everything was ok, I said, things were ok, but not great. Then she demanded that I give at least 15% tip ($2 more). I asked if that was mandatory, she said they usually get 16-18%. I was not going to fight for $2 more, so I wrote it in. But what horrible service? As if the 15% is now mandatory. more

We went on a Friday night around 7:30pm, the place wasn't even half filled. If this place was great, must have been when it first opened up. Because it really isn't. Try it out for yourself, but be prepared to fight if you don't put in enough tip. more
