I don't know why some people think that the sushi here is good. I've had much better for a lower price (try Little Tokyo in the Village or even some places in Brooklyn). It is j...

Good, dependable sushi 2/3/2011

No surprises, and it may not ""tickle your palate"" - but it will satisfy your sushi cravings with decently sized pieces that are fresh, if not imaginatively served. Prices aren't bad, and the wait is less than comparable places like Yama, etc. more

My fiancee and I were just walking down the block when we saw the place. We figured we'd give it a shot because it looked unique, had interesting decor, and we love sushi. It wasn't very loud at 6pm on a Friday but we heard this place gets pretty crazy at 9pm with people doing Sake bombs. We went to the Sushi Bar and were pleasantly surprised when they gave us a complinmentary sushi bar sushi roll. It was EXCELLENT. They personalized it for us by drawing hearts with the mayo sauce. The chef (Jay) was so friendly and asked us what kind of fish we like. He said he'd make us something special that's not on the menu. We told him that we like salmon, tuna, and yellowtail and he put together a roll that was out of this world. It was seriously the best sushi roll we ever had. We've been to a ton of places on Long Island and California for sushi including Kotobuki and Blackstone Steakhouse (which are excellent). THIS WAS EVEN BETTER. You could see and taste how fresh the fish was. Jay told us that they have such a high turnaround that shipments come in daily. If you go, make sure you tip the chef... they deserve it. I normally don't write reviews, but this place deserves a good one. If you're in the area and are a sushi lover, check it out! more

Sushi that makes you smile! 2/2/2010

I first stumbled upon Mizu over 3 years ago and have been a customer ever since. In fact, my friends request going to Mizu every time we go out. They love it too. The Sushi is always fresh and tasty. I love the King Salmon and the Wild Kampachi Sashimi. The Samurai 2 roll is one of my personal favorites and is out of this world. In the mood for something tasty? Ask about the Sushi Bar Appetizer. They'll know you want. Check out Mizu and see why I go weekly! Pros: Excellent fresh tasting Sushi! Cons: The wait can get up to an hour on Friday's and Saturday's. more

Very disappointed, overhyped 6/9/2009

I decided to try Mizu for lunch, I ordered Kani salad, 2 spicy tuna rolls in cucumber, while my friend had a Bento Box. Kani salad was great but overpriced at $8. The cucumber spicy tuna was not spicy AT ALL. I asked someone if I could have spicy mayo to put on top, she claimed it was spicy and my tastebuds were dead. There was NO spice. She kept arguing with me, making like I won a national jalapeno-eating contest or something. Without the spice, the tuna looked and tasted like cat food. Also, 2 rolls consisted of 8 pieces, which I paid $22 for.... seems excessive. My friend noted that her Bento box was nothing extraordinary either. I wouldn't come back to this overhyped place. Pros: cool atmosphere, attentive wait-staff Cons: food was ok, nothing impressive, prices seemed high more

Audacious during this recession 1/6/2009

It appears that Mizu is not aware of this "recession" we are in. When they should feel lucky to even acquire business they would rather care more about containers. I phoned in an order for delivery which totaled $75. You'd think that they would jump at an opportunity for sales but when I requested that the rolls be separated since they were for a dinner meeting at our office, she refused and said (rudely) that she could not separate the rolls and that if I wanted to separate she would have to charge me extra! I laughed in her ear and informed her that we would be ordering from someone who could satisfy our simple request. I called MONSTER SUSHI on 23rd and they were happy to separate our rolls. Very simple: 4 containers containing 3 rolls each! Too bad for money hungry Mizu. They will surely suffer with that greedy approach to "customer service". more

good sushi, better atmosphere 12/8/2008

one of my standard sushi spots before a night out, happy hour or dining with a group of 4(or more). the restaurant caters especially to all of the above. the sashimi and rolls are above par and moderately priced. if you're looking for a place to go with a group, mizu is it. the music ranges from hip hop and catchy techno/house which helps complement the occasional saki bombs. what makes this place great is also the downfall. it's only a matter of time before i feel i'm way too old for this sort of thing. Pros: large group friendly, ideal for saki bombs Cons: large group friendly, ideal for saki bombs more

Great Sushi at Reasonable Prices 8/11/2008

Fantastic Sushi offered at reasonable prices at Mizu. Hip place with pretty loud music but also slightly crammed. It will get very busy on a weekend evening. Highly recommended! I have brought many friends here and they all thought that it was wonderful and they continue to return as well. Pros: Sushi! more

Not that big of a deal. 4/24/2008

I work in the area and have ordered here a couple of times and always being disappointed with what I got. It's not that the food is horrible or gross. It's just not that great. It gets a C average. I didn't like the spicy tuna roll. I got a bento box with tofu and veggies and that wasn't great either. I also wondered if the crab in my California roll was real or imitation crab. Pros: Not much Cons: poor quality more

I have always enjoyed Mizu. The Paul roll is amazing as well as the Karate Roll. All the rolls always taste very fresh! It is crowded on any night of the week with mostly a younger crowd. I would recommend this as a fantastic sushi restaurant. Pros: Fresh sushi! Cons: Sometimes a little of a wait, no resos for 2 ppl. more

nice to have to any neighborhood 2/2/2008

Lovely sushi and exquisite sake makes Mizu one of the hottest spots in the city. Settings are little tight but stuff is helpful and keeps you comfortable. Pros: tasty food, warm service Cons: elbow room more
