Great Cannoli's 7/8/2010

We were in Boston over Fourth Of July weekend and we had to try this place out. First of all, I must say, we beat the CROWND!!!! yeayyy. We went at the perfect time, I think around 1:00 PM and waited less than 5 minutes. They were so quick! Anyway, The cannoli-plain was huge, delicious crust and delicious filling!! Loved it. The Jim Roll (i think it's called), was good. The cupcakes, not so much. I make better cupcakes at home. The chocolate cupcake almost tasted boxed. Maybe it was because it was hot and it was in the nbox for an hour, I don't know!, but took one bite and threw it out. The vanilla cupcake with white frosting was ok. I can't wait to go back and try the BIG yellow sponge rum cake with filling. It looked so good!! Pros: Cannolis Cons: Nothing really more

Amazing Cannoli 2/17/2010

It is never a good idea to walk into a pastry shop when you are hungry. You know you will order and eat the worst possible things that would ruin your diet. However, on Feb. 13th I did just that out of despair that every single restaurant in Boston North End required an hour plus wait. My boyfriend and I were both hungry and grumpy and we couldn't bear the thought of waiting for another hr or two for dinner. Then, we saw Mike's Pastry, selling allegedly the best Canoli in Boston. There was a long line out the door while it was 25 degrees out. We knew it must be true or these people must be crazy! We went in line and thought having some pastry would hold off our hunger until our table is ready. So we were in line for about 10 minutes and finally got to order our share of pastry. They have a great selection of Canoli, ricotta pies, Italian cookies, pastries, and cakes. It was very hard to even decide what to get. Out of hunger, we decided to get 3 canolis, Zeppole Cream Pie, and Chocolate Dipped Florentine. We tried the pistacchio canoli first and it was amazing. It is one of the biggest canoli I have had. The shell is crispy and the ricotta cream is fresh. At the same time, we swallowed down the chocholate dipped florentine cookie, which is crispy and tasty too. Before we realized we ate too much, I had half of chocolate covered canoli in my stomach already. All I can say is this is truly one of the best canoli I have had in the United States, outshining Veniero's or Ferrara in New York. If you are in Boston, definitely visit this Canoli Mecca! Pros: Huge Cannoli and other Italian pastries Cons: long line more

Overrated 1/13/2010

I never understood the appeal of Mike's. Much like Little Italy in other Northeast cities, notably NYC, North end is feeling more and more like Vegas. Good for tourists and not much else. Who wants to elbow to the counter with a whole bunch of tourists for overpriced american italian desserts? Packed, small, crowded and not much else. Pros: Location Cons: Touristy, crowded, average desserts more

Excellent dessert! 11/5/2009

Fast service, yummy Boston Cream pie, and very fun store. Well worth the drive, and trouble to find a parking space. A definite place to visit in the North End. Pros: Everything Cons: Can't think of anything more

So-so dessert 3/24/2009

I think this shop is overrated. I grew up in a very italian town and feel the cannolis don't compare. Pros: Many options Cons: small and crowded more

Marie antonette pasty hats inspired by Bruna Costumes of Providence 2/24/2009

The fashion show of hat by Bruna costumes paraded in front of the bakery. The hat that were really made of cloth were made to resemble the petite fours from the court of Marie Antonette. They were delecately detailed with fring and pearls and beads that resemble the real thing more

HOLY CANOLLI 2/14/2009

This is a must if not just for the experience. It is a milestone in the North End. The line can be tough but its worth the wait. Once you breach the doorway you will find three lines: two on either side of the room and one in the middle. TAKE THE MIDDLE LINE, otherwise you won't get a full purview of the entire dessert case. So good we went twice in one day. Do not get the strawberry shortcake (it was nasty). ENJOY! more

Fresh, sweet, heavenly desserts! you must try lobster tail & cannoli 9/1/2008

Once or twice a month, after I get out of work, I run to Mike's pastry to buy bunch of pasty for my family - mainly lobster tail, whipped cream puff, cannoli, ricotta cheese pie and some other ones that catch my eyes. I end up buying so much, worrying about the price, but the price is always much cheaper than I expect! You can buy loads loads of pastry that can feed 5 people or more with under $20. (Actually it depends on what kind you buy, some kinds are more expensive that others) The food is always fresh, especially when it is crowded because they bring new ones quickly. more

Amazing cannoli's 7/26/2008

My first cannoli was at Mike's. They are amazing. I travel all over the country and have tried to find another cannoli that rivals Mike's and none have come close. I get the one with chocolate chips and add powdered sugar. There are always long lines in this place, but it is worth the wait. The cannoli's are good sized and are $2.50 each. Pros: Best cannoli's around Cons: Long lines more

awesome!!! 5/25/2008

this is the best pastry place I have ever been too!!!!!! Pros: delicious! Cons: can't eat here too much or will get fat! :) more

Best Dessert but Unfriendly Staff (Rude) 5/12/2008

yes, they probably have the Best dessert in town/ Boston, but if you want to sacrifice service in exchange for staff rudeness- i suggest you visit this place last because it might ruin your vacation or trip to Boston. I prefer to have good food and friendly service when I am traveling. ( service doesn't have to be great just friendly ) Pros: good dessert Cons: np parking, rude staff more

Long lines here are worth it! 3/6/2008

When going to Mike's, you will notice that there is an abundant lack of seating and the lines are long, but the variety and quality of the baked goods here is most definitely worth the wait! One night, after a horrible dinner, I went down the street to get a nice dessert and was not disappointed. I got a butter cookie, a cupcake, and a smile in return for a dollar. Grazie! Pros: great food, great neighborhood, wonderful people, great prices Cons: shortage of seating, not a lot of places to park more

I was a closet cannoli fan and now I'm out of the closet 9/16/2007

I was not aware that I'm a cannoli fan until I had Mike's cannoli. I'm a firm believer that you MUST try the ""IT"" item that made the food establishment famous. In this case, Mike's is famous for cannoli. I only bought 1 cannoli to-go and now I can't wait to go back and try other cannolis. The tiramisu was average and the rum cake was really bad. Stick with the cannoli and you'll be happy! Pros: Cannoli Cons: Rum Cake more
