Editorial review from Citysearch 8/24/2013

I was referred to Mia's by a friend when I was looking for a mother of the groom gown. I took the 45 minute ride hoping to find something after visiting some other stores. \r \r Walking in I was impressed by the mix of clothing styles, from sportswear, evening / formal wear and accessories. More impressive was the owner, Maria. I could not have felt more comfortable shopping at Mia's. Maria has impeccable taste and knows the best styles for her customers. \r \r Happily after trying on a nice selection of gowns, I found the perfect one. The dress was well within the price range I chose and alterations are done by her very well experienced dressmaker. \r \r I am looking forward to the next shopping trip to Mia's when her fall collection comes in! more

AWESOME STORE! AWESOME SALES ASSOCIATES! LOVE MIA'S 8/24/2011

I have passed by Mia's on several occasions while walking in and around the Passyunk Ave retail area and while the window is always very appealing and inviting I never took the opportunity to walk in. Today however I did just that (walked in) and what a TREAT!!! The selection and stock list is suburb! What a fabulous collection of designers and items of clothing! I was so so impressed. The selection and the price points range run the gamut from adorable and darling tees, denim, jackets, business clothing to the most gorgeous evening wear and the affordability would certainly appeal to all pocket books. I ended up spending much more time in there then I ever expected and that was due to not only the fun that I was having trying on all the beautiful and lovely pieces but talking to the most friendly and sweetest sales associates that included the owner Mia/ Maria. These women (along with a very friendly customer that happened to be in there as well) were beyond helpful and so very pleasant and professional. They were so accommodating AND HONEST! If there was something that didn't look particularly well on me they were the first ones to say ""no way, take it off""! I have also began my search for a very special dress (my mother-of-bride dress) and I do believe that I have found it at Mia's!!! After leaving with my awesome purchases I returned a while later with my daughter (""the bride"") for her opinion/approval of the dress and no surprise (even though she is very particular) she LOVED IT!!! She too was a ""first timer"" to Mia's and she too was equally impressed! She made a few purchases as well and I can assure you that this will be our first of MANY visits to Mia's for our retail shopping wants and needs! There are so many beautiful things in Mia's and I can honestly say that it will also be my go-to place first and foremost. Thank you Mia, Rita and to the sweet customer Donna! You are all super! more

MIA of Philadelphia 2/10/2011

I just recently went prom dress shopping, being 18 and I am paying for half of my dress seems like i should be able to do that without a parent. I go into Mia's expecting to be able to AT LEAST try on a dress, but unfortunatly no (company policy?) i need a parent for a prom dress. So not only could i not try on a prom dress , i was unable to buy one or even take a picture. The picture I can understand but for me to nee a parent to even see if I would like the dress seemed a little unreal. I dont understand why I continue to try this store this is the third time I have stepped foot in there and i have been dissapointed. About a few year's back a friend and I went in because we liked the outfit in the window wanted to check the store out after passing it so many times, and as were looking threw clothing, we are spoken to as if we dont belong, like we couldent ""affored"" what they sell. And when i say this i quote "" why dont you check out king of jeans, they might have something more reasonable"" . I dont understand you dont know me , dont ever judge a book by its cover and i would think turning buisness away is a bad thing ? but that would just be my opinion. And as for the prom dress I even attempted to check out the store last year, its just the same everytime. Mia herself in my opinion is a stuck up snob and many people are beneath her , so she thinks.\r \r FYI i bought my prom dress last year and this year from the shoe barral. much nicer service and no unreasonable rules. more

in regards to mias of philadelphia it is unfortunate that business owners of today can not be respected especially for the policies that they feel they need to enforce if you are shoping for a prom dress and the store has to enforce this for whatever reason. then that should be all there is to say why do the younger generation have to feel that they are entitled to say and do whatever they want to do i myself as a business owner have to worry about every girl that walks thru my door if it does not go there way that they are going to try to hurt the person and try to ruin there reputation , i truly do not blame the young. i think that this is all they no,.as far as being snobby i dont think so i am only called that when i pick up for myself and my place of business. so let it be that you want to think that it is o.k. i have learned that i will not make everyone happy... more

WOULD NOT LET ME USE GIFT CARD 10/1/2010

The owner would not let me use a $200 gift card on ""sales"" merchandise. I received the card as a Christmas present because my South Philly friends knew I liked to shop there. The owner explicitly said I was prohibited from using it on ""sales"" merchandise, despite the fact that my friend paid cash for it. I thought about filing a Small Claims Complaint to get the money back, but honestly, walking around town and bad mouthing the place is better than the aggravation of going to court. more

i just recently read the review that a prom mom, complaning about the expierence that she had at Mias of Philly. I do not agree !!!!!!! the time i had spent at the shop was not only wonderful it was joyous. Maria treated me with the utmost care as if she were dressing herself. as far as the seamstress. she had fixed the dresses that i had purchased. like they were made for me. if there was a situation that occured with your daughter then maybe your child was not behaving properly. we all no what teenage girls could be like I also have a 17 year old. Not everyone is perfect. Pros: great shoping experience more

Aweful Experience 5/19/2010

Worst seamstress ever, she destroyed my daughter's prom dress one week before the prom. As I was complaining about my alterations I observed other girls in poor fitting dresses being bullied by owner, Maria, into accepting their damaged dresses. These alterations were not cheap either. \r Maria became very confrontational when I complained and took no responsiblity for the seamstress' errors leaving me with a damaged dress. Maria also had no problem arguing loudly with my teenage daughter, very disrespectful! \r My daughter's first prom experience was ruined by this horrible shopping experience and by having to go to her prom in a damaged dress. I am out over $500. We probably could have done better in the mall!!!! Cons: horrible seamstress, verbally abusive owner and staff more

Mia's of Philadelphia what a great experience! 3/1/2008

What a fabulous experience! Finally a place where customer service is key. I got nothing but help from the moment I walked in the door. They were able to choose items for me to enhance my body shape and were able to know my style just by asking me a few questions about the type of clothing I felt comfortable in. Store was meticulously kept. They also were able to accessorize my clothing with ease. Always remember you get what you pay for. Quality clothing is all that they have at Mia's. Maria, the owner has exceptional taste and an obvious eye for style. I am sure to be a repeat customer at this establishment. more

Mia Bella? Not quite! Mia Rude!!!! 9/29/2007

I walked in hoping to support a local business....what I got was a gossiping owner and employee who complain about other people the whole time I tried on clothes...I bought @ 1000 worth of clothes and was happy with most of it. WELLL! I went home and tried a few things on and decided to return one of my purchases...When I got there the OWNER told me they only accept returns within 5 DAYS! Why didn?t they tell me this when I purchased? This is certainly NOT industry standards! When I mentioned this the OWNER said-""Well, I am not everyone else!"" YEAH! I KNOW! PLUS THEY DO NOT GIVE YOU BACK YOUR $ ONLY A STORE CREDIT! They only offered to take the suit back if I paid a 5% restocking fee...HOW CAN THEY SURVIVE? Please DO NOT SUPPRT THIS Store! Pros: ? Cons: RUDE,RUDE,RUDE! more
