Mekong has a wonderful assortment of both Dutch and oriental foods. Personally we go for the dutch foods. Year round they have a wide variety of dutch items. Seasonal shopping is also good. In fact I just recieved a call saying the dutch chocolate letters are in. I will be heading up soon, and I'm sure I won't be buying just chocolate letters! I love Mekong! more

Great place 10/31/2008

With a background of being grown up with the dutch and Indonesian kitchen I have been craving to find a place like Mekong. They have a very wide selection of dutch and indonesian delicacies and food, including the seasonal items from Holland (Sinterklaas). Very much recommended. more

The Only Thing Like This Around 9/4/2008

Afters several hours of looking for an Asian food market in or around Everett, I finally found this place. It was in it's prior location, but sadly, due to having their rent doubled, they had to move. The new space is very clean, and comfortable to shop. There is everything I need and more, and the owner is always more than happy to offer her advise on cooking - like my Japanese grandma. (If my grandma was Japanese.) I was sad to know how they almost went out of business! Help support them! more

The Far East isn't so far, after all! 9/20/2006

We have a fairly long history with Mekong, which is a Vietnamese market. I've been shopping here since I was married, in 1992, and my husband had shopped there for a few years before that. Probably about 16 years altogether now. It's close to home, it has a terrific selection of Oriental groceries, they have a small but nice selection of Oriental dishes, and the prices are good. They sell produce, spices, frozen foods, canned goods, and lots of rice, as well as a various other groceries, beverages, Asian and Dutch goodies, and household items. There is an incredible selection crammed into their small store. "Mama Mekong" (as we always call the proprietress) is somewhat aloof but pleasant, especially once she's gotten to know you. She and her husband don't usually volunteer assistance, leaving customers to browse at their own pace, but should you have a question, Mama is right there to help you find what you need. Once in a while, some of the produce will be a little less than fresh (as happens even with large supermarkets), but overall it's good quality--much better than another Oriental market in Everett I used to shop at! It is definitely the place to get ginger, shallots, and limes, though, as well as less common Oriental produce such as galangal, lemongrass, and sometimes even curry leaves. Since it's a Vietnamese grocery, the majority of the foods there are the sort sought by Vietnamese--southeast Asian and Dutch foods. However, there is a selection of foods from other parts of Asia, such as won ton wrappers, sheets of nori, and Basmati rice. Check them out, and maybe you'll find yourself inspired to prepare a curry or some pho tonight! more
