People call me the queso queen because of my love of the ooey gooey cheesy goodness. I have to say that Maudie's hands down is my favorite queso of all time. Seriously. Try it!

For Tex-Mex, it is hard to beat longtime Austin favorite, Maudie's. I like the original location in Terrytown. You can even plan to take a dip in nearby Deep Eddy pool while you are in the area. more

Austin classic Tex Mex 9/7/2010

Maudie's is a must-go for all out of town guests. Best chips & spicy salsa in town! Lake Austin Blvd location started out next to a laundromat, then expanded, took over the space & remodeled. We fondly refer to it as the ""West Austin Country Club"". more

Best Service, Nice Bar Staff, Great Food! 4/22/2010

So, I love Maudie's. There are several locations, but bay far the ""Original"" is my fav. They have added a new drink to the menu called a ""Skinny Rita."" And boy is it good! It has maybe 1/3 of the calories in it that a reg. rita does, and it's sparkling...DELICIOUS! And it's a really hip place as well. If you want to show your friends or family a rest. that is AUSTIN, bring them here. The staff are very cool, and nice . They are definitely a mix of Austin....And the manager floating around looks happy all the time, smiling and friendly....I give it an A ++++++++++++ Pros: Skinny Rita...Patio Cons: A bit of a wait, but worth it! more

One of my favorite Tex-Mex joints! 8/13/2007

Maudies Lake Austin is one of my all-time favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in Austin. They have consistantly good food (with a few misses here and there), and with a few exceptions, I have experienced generally good service. I get a lot of take-out orders from them, and the only thing I would suggest is that they improve on fulfilling take-out orders. Many times I have gotten home only to discover they left off the rice and beans that I ordered, or put in flour instead of corn tortillas, or whatever. Not enough to get upset over, but still, it's just one more little hassle. I forgave their constant mistakes when they were going through all the construction and remodeling - now it's time to step up to the plate a bit more. But all in all, a good Tex-Mex place! Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced. Cons: Take-out orders can be wrong on a regular basis - check it before you leave. more

No so bueno service 7/9/2007

I went there with my friends and sister few nights ago, we were seated promptly and the atmosphere was very fun, although I was COMPLETELY not impressed with the service. We had at least FOUR different servers and just getting another bowl of chips took forever. I've been in the service industry for awhile and understand if it's busy or they're shorthanded, but COME ON there wasn't one ""sorry"" for the slow service. Granted everyone's food was yummy except the salad I got was pretty weak for for their ""special"" salad so. Go on and try it out maybe it was just that day but beware the servers :)... more

dont get it 6/23/2007

Not sure why this place is so ""cool"" - been around a long time. Big with the UT crowd. There are much better places to eat mexican. Not bad - but honestly nothing special. Staff is fine - kind of the typical Austin weird, too cool for school crowd. more

One of, if not the best Tex-Mex in town. 4/12/2007

I go almost as a regular now for lunch. I love this place! One of if not the best Tex-Mex in town and the other locales serve the same great food. Pros: Great food and value, and service Cons: None, no really, not kidding, great place. more

Great service & atmosphere, food just so-so a little disappointing 1/22/2007

We visited the W. 7th street location for late brunch. Although the service was very friendly and more than accomodating, we couldn't help but be a little disppointed. We have found many of these reviews to be on the money; however this time we have to disageee. The food was on the bland side and needed to be kicked up a notch. The food also took along time even though the place wasn't even cloise to being 1/2 full (the staff was still attentive though). Pros: Low prices, great service, clean inside and out Cons: Bland food, items took long to prepare more

Great Food, Amazing Service to the Gluten Free Crowd 8/12/2006

I've tried most of the Maudies locations and consistently found their food and service to be outstanding. As someone with Celiac Disease who has to avoid wheat/gluten, I have found their servers and managers eager to help me find which menu items avoid these ingredients. Pros: Attentive management and service. Finding gluten free dishes is easy. more

Good food, horrible service 8/11/2006

Went to breakfast on a Saturday morning at this location (which was suprisingly not too crowded) after hearing how wonderful it was. We entered the door and were offered inside or outside seating -- we chose outside and were told to pick a table and someone would be right with us. After waiting 10 minutes, we had to go back in and remind them that we were there and still hadn't been helped. Someone then came and hastily took our order. When the food arrived, they brought us a double order of one of the items we ordered, only part of another order and failed to bring us water even after we asked for it twice (it was summer, come on people!). The waitress finally topped off our coffee as we finished our meal, which by that point we had undoubtedly decided not to return. If you're going to have patio dining, assign a wait person to that section! The food and prices were good -- pity the service will keep us from coming again. Pros: great food and prices Cons: horrible service more

AWESOME 12/12/2005

Great Service, Incredible TexMex... Margaritas are awesome! This is a MUST TRY! My wife, usually very critical & particular, loved this place (As did I). We are going to make this a regular spot for us... Good Work Fellas! Pros: Service, Food, Drinks more

maudies rocks. the vegetarian fajitas (hold the serranos) are to die for. the queso is amazing and the service is always dependable. want to blow the diet for the night? try rockin ruthann's! its the best! Pros: good local food, locations! more

Why Maudie's? 5/19/2005

My entire family is HOOKED on Maudie's - Lake Austin Blvd. We had been dining at this location for a couple of months, when one night we were there and we rec'd a phone call that my grandmother had passed away. They quickly packaged up our order and sent us on our way at no charge! Now it's five years later and we are there almost every Friday night. We know the staff, they know us. GREAT customer service!! more

Best breakfast tacos in town 4/29/2005

Maudie's is authentic Tex-Mex food. Their breakfast tacos are THE best, whatever way you like them. This location is the most crowded of all Maudie's, so expect a 15-60 min wait on weekends for brunch. The service at this location is also probably the best of all Maudie's, very speedy and attentive, great chips and salsa. Margaritas are very solid. As of April 2005 they are in the process of expanding, which will about triple capacity, so wait times should come down as a result. Very highly recommended for great value, casual brunches and awesome breakfast tacos. Pros: Breakfast tacos, Service, Great salsa Cons: Wait times, Strip mall location more

The Best! 9/28/2004

We had relatives visiting during the ACL festival, and they have never really experienced ""REAL TEX MEX""! This place is definitely where you want to go. The staff is great, our wait for a table last all but 5 minutes (even on a FRIDAY!) Very impressive when you have a group of people who were extremely HUNGRY! Good food portions, great food at a great price, and great staff. Need I say more? Pros: Best Tex Mex, Good Staff, Inexpensive more
