Editorial review from Citysearch 9/26/2014

I hope this veterinary group takes this review seriously. I have had ten years of very average service including an incident where the vet during a cleaning broke my dogs tooth and could not remove it. I had to pay over a thousand dollars and then they sent me to the specialist and I had another bill for over $1000. Two weeks ago my 10 year old dog somehow chewed his back thigh and overnight it became bloody and infected looking. I asked if I could come in for a quick look to see what needs to be done and despite begging and two calls Dr. Simms refused to see my dog. I was so upset because I had continued with this VET for so long and they did not care at all about my beautiful dog. I went to another VET and they took care of the problem in 10 minutes. To top things off I found that the last service before this happened was double billed on my credit card. I called to speak to Monica the manager and she never called back. When I called again they claimed that they refunded me a month ago but that never happened and I don't think Amex in missing the credit. Sorry to say but the treatment by this VET is sub standard and quite infuriating.. As much as I hate to change with an older dog I guess I have no choice!!! If you need a good VET don't go here. more

Doubt the story! 9/29/2010

My family had been using MVG for about 30 yrs. We have known nothing but first rate service and care for our 4 pets who they have treated. In April, we had to put down our cat Russ who was just about 19 yrs. old. The entire staff, from Rosa who greeted me this day as I entered to Dr. Julie Horton and her assistant (who I apologize to for not knowing her name) was as courteous and professional as one would expect. They made losing Russ that much easier for me. The way that they handled him as they set him up for the procedure was much appreciated! Two days later, my family received a condolence card from the staff at MVG that was signed by everyone present that day. We'll never take our pets to any other hospital, they have earned our trust. On another note, I read the review that someone libeled Arthur with. I have known Arthur for a few years now and have NEVER, ever felt disrespected or that I was bothering him at any time. This description MUST have come from some disgruntled person who just couldn't be satisfied no matter what MVG did for them. One other note about Russ. Over 3 years ago we brought him in because he was listless, we thought that we were gonna have to face the inevitable. There was a Dr. Alexander who took care of Russ' condition and 'brought him back' to us for 3 more years, you cannot put a price on the things that MVG has done for my family! more

horrible memories 11/27/2009

An employee at Manhattan Veterinary Group 11/27/2008

I am an employee at Manhattan Veterinary Group. I am the client service coordinator who works the front desk. I read the comment made by vpellsmo and I have to interject here. I am not sure this has even happened at our facility and may just be an attempt from ex-employees to tarnish our practice. We take pride in our customer service and we try to go above and beyond to assist our clients. If this incident were to have happened, our manager would have been notified about it and th issue would have been rectified. furthermore, the information given does not sound like certain practice procedures we would have taken. The reason I wrote this is because I work hard at my job to make sure people are happy with our services. more

Customer Service? 9/26/2008

Let me preface this by saying that it has taken me months to write this review, and I know that the dr. to which I am referring is no longer there. That said, after we were told to come in for bloodwork for parvo testing (and waiting 1/2 hr for this appt), we were asked by the dr. why we were there, because we didn't need the test after all! We told her that we were told to come in for this appt, and showed her our last bill/record of services needed. She barely apologized for the incorrect info, and made it seem like we had inconvenienced her! Moreover, when we asked her to look at a scratch that our dog had near his eye, she told us we "needed an appt for that"! Obviously we had one, since that is why we were there, but she corrected us and told us that we had an appt with a "tech" for bloodwork (which is not what I was told when I made the appt), and walked away. This place was a 2 dr. practice, and what was really hilarious is that we found out shortly after that our fave dr. (who we wanted to see in the first place, but was unavailable) was "let go" and they only had that moron left! Don't know anything about the new dr. on staff there now, but I don't think I want to even bother finding out. Going somewhere else. more

Great Vet. Office and Great Staff 3/8/2008

I Love Manhatten Vet. Group! Our vetrinarian is and the staff are wonderful. We never feel rushed and we get all our questions awnsered. Very patient and knowledgeable. They also really attend to our dog and he is not the easiest. more

Caring, Smart, Wonderful 9/25/2006

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the Manhattan Veterinary Group. From the minute I walked in the door I was greeted with warmth by the front office staff. The doctors are very competent and focus on what is best for my cats....not their wallets. They gave me options and always keep me posted on what it will cost...I don't know what the last reviewer was talking about with "no microchip scanner" - they had one when I was there and the doctor understood the ins and outs of European travel. I will continue to take my cats and any future pets to this great hospital. Pros: Great doctors, caring staff Cons: none more

A vet without a microchip scanner 9/16/2006

This place thinks more about getting your money than most. They do procedures without informing you of extra charges. Their head vet knows NOTHING about dog travel to Europe. When filling my dog's microchip number on the paperwork I would need to supply them with a microchip more

If you love your animals, DO NOT bring them here!!! 9/12/2006

We took our two cats here to get their follow-up vaccinations and the veterinarian gave both of our cats the wrong vaccinations!! Had they used live vaccines, our 5 year old cat would have been extremely ill b/c she had just received that vaccine a month and a half prior to our follow-up visit! Cons: Lack of caring, incompetent doctors and front office staff more

Not what they used to be 8/10/2006

I used to take my cats and dogs there before it was taken over by VCA. Now it's run like a car dealership. They make mistakes scheduling appointments. The doctors don't seem to have interpersonal skills for dealing with people. They are short on compassion. The Office Manager has the last word. And, they're extremely expensive. PROS: none CONS: impersonal, expensive, unfriendly more

Very caring 10/27/2005

I'm not sure how the other 3 reviewers had such negative experiences but I have nothing but good things to say about Manhattan Vet Group. They take excellent care of my cats, are courteous, seem to genuinely care about my pets and have weekend appointments (even Sundays!). Pros: Caring staff, Weekend hours, Very little wait time more

RUN THE OTHER WAY, NOW !!!! 10/10/2005

Arrogance is an understatement! The office help is extremely rude. The vet seemed like I was bothering him when I asked questions about my new puppy. He seemed to be in a hurry and didn't really care about any of my concerns. NEVER GO HERE, if you love your pet!! Pros: Location Cons: Cost, Arrogance, Rudeness more

Lost touch with pets/patients and their owners 10/4/2005

I agree with the other review. I really wasn't happy with anything about this place. The veterinarian seemed almost out of touch and inhumane. I wasn't looking for my hand to be held but for simple communication and honest advice. What I got was an increadibly expensive bill for a sub-par, unnessesary and painful surgery performed on my dog. I really wish I would have never brought my dog there and after going to a great new veterinarian the difference in treatment and care is astounding. It's really unfortunate... Cons: expensive, dismissive, uninformed more

Great vet! 7/16/2005

Excellent doctors, who are available, listen to questions and really care about animals. They have an emergency clinic and will not charge a fortune if you need to bring your pet in on a late night or weekend. PROS: great prices, great doctors CONS: none more

Dont Go Here 7/10/2005

If you love your pet dont take them to this vet. Unfriendly staff and veterinarians that are not knowledgeable make this place bad news. They are expensive and referred me to an awful veterinarian for a special procedure for my cat. more

stop don't go 2/19/2004

stop, don't go there, they are over priced, don't really care about pet or owner. arrogant doctors, arrogant front desk staff. they charge late fees if your late. might tell you your pet has cancer, but not before they do any type of test... several hundred dollars later it might only be a bacterial infection? Stop don't go... more
