Mark On Madison isn't somewhere you come if you're looking for a cheap haircut. However, if you're looking for a great cut, friendly stylists and good service, then this is the place for you.\r \r I've come to Mark On Madison several times in the past year and have always been satisfied with my haircuts. Mark is a great stylist and pleasant to talk to.\r \r I also love that they don't try to push products on you like many other salons. The customer experience here is a great one and this is definitely a salon I will keep coming back to.\r \r more

I love Mark On Madison and I love Mark. \r \r About 2 years ago I decided to get rid of my short hairs of 12 years and get extensions. When I showed up, I was PETRIFIED, controlling and neurotic. But Mark was so patient and calmed me down. He must have talked with me about what I wanted and what would best suit me for about half an hour before we got down to business. He showed me pictures of other extensions he'd done recently and filled me with just enough confidence to let go of my fears. I left with a gorgeous look. I think I may have even skipped all the way home.\r \r Now Mark's my guy and I no longer have to freak out whenever I get a haircut because I completely trust him. Oh yeah, he's also super cool and chill and interesting.\r more

I have had my hair all different colors, cuts and styles done by 100 different people, and I have to say the best it's ever looked is after it's been handled by Mark. He knows how to customize a look to suit your style, and he has a very welcoming and relaxing presence, which is a major plus. I have had Mark do my hair many different ways, and I have always been very, very happy with the results. \r \r My mom has also had her hair cut by him, and she will no longer go to anyone else. \r \r We love Mark, and you will, too.\r more

Mark is a genius. I was the last appointment of his day yesterday. He was running a little late, but then again, so was I. It was my first time at the salon, but he made me feel welcome and comfortable. I've cut my hair short before and had many bobs over the years. I had read on Yelp that he specialized in bobs, but recently I've been getting terrible haircuts from those discount chains so I was still a little nervous and apprehensive.\r \r I had called and said I just wanted a haircut. He started off with a consultation-basically, I showed him a picture to give him a basic idea of what I wanted. He showed me photos of his previous work similar to the cut I wanted to set a realistic expectation of what my photo cut would actually look like based on my hair type. On top of that, he gave me suggestions on how to modify the cut to better suit my hair type and face. We settled on the direction to go and away we went...\r \r My friend had come with me for moral support and just good company. We all got into some great, entertaining conversations as well. Mark has a way of making you feel at ease. He took his time and was very meticulous and precise with my hair while still interacting and being engaged in our conversations.\r \r Bottomline, Mark is an artist. He takes pride in his craft. My friend and I left well after closing and still, Mark was very sweet and wasn't pushy. I can honestly say it was one of the best hair appointments and hair cuts I've ever received.\r \r I received multiple compliments and most importantly, I love my hair. I will definitely be coming back and have already started singing his praises to co-workers and friends even though his work on my head speaks for itself. My friend who came for moral support has already said she'll be visiting Mark for her next cut as well.\r \r Thanks again Mark. Had a great time and I am in love with your work. I just had the best experience here! I just went in for a trim, and it has been a while because I was trying to grow my hair out. However, I was getting a lot of split ends and my hair looked really damaged.\r \r When I walked in Mark greeted me so warmly and than assesed my hair with me and decided to give me a complimentary hot Keratin deep conditioning treatment. It made my hair so soft and shiny!\r \r He than cut and styled my hair to perfection. He gave me bangs and beautiful layers to help make my hair look fuller, and showed me how to style it easily in the morning.\r It is so soft, and looks amazing! I am so happy with it. He is also super cool, and we talked the whole time.\r \r I also bought some product he suggested to help me with my hair and he gave me a discount on that.\r \r He is awesome, and I will most definitely be going back. I really recommend him and this salon!\r more

Mark, the owner is a very down-to-earth, pleasant person to engage with and his aesthetic sensibilities are on display in the interior design of the space, with clean lines and contemporary touches. He politely offered refreshments & my experience here was growing more comfortable by the moment. \r \r To top it all off, I stepped out of the salon with the best haircut I have ever had. He gave me this dope shag, much like Jane Fonda in """"Klute"""". I had been to numerous salons over the years seeking this type of shaping of my hair, but no other sylist even came close. Indeed, after only 2-3 minutes of consulting with Mark on the cut, he nailed it without so much as batting an eye.\r \r more

It's hard to try a hair stylist for the first time, but like most of us do, I read the CitySearch reviews and decided to go see Mark. When I walked into the salon I was impressed by the cleanliness and the décor. Mark greeted me and I immediately felt comfortable. I told him I wanted to freshen up my layers, cut off all the dead ends but keep my length. And he did an amazing job!! He moved with such ease and confidence and that was a definite sign of experience to me. I'm so happy with my new do and whether my hair is curled or straight I'm always getting compliments on how great and healthy my hair looks. Give this salon a try, you will not be disappointed! more

This salon rocks! Mark really listened to what I wanted and he gracefully put up with me (my previous cut at other salon left me more than unhappy so I was whinny and obsessive). In the end I got the cut I wanted (which is now growing out beautifully). The price is good for the level of work they do and they are super friendly - they even sent a hand written thank you card to make sure I liked their service!!!\r \r more

I did stop by and was able to get my hair re-colored and some fixes to my hair cut. Mark was very patient with me and made sure everything was perfect this time around. I felt much better walking out and enjoyed it this time, he came back when he was going to check back in and when I wasn't sure what I needed he gave suggestions. Definitely a good spot to go for a hair cut but definitely not on busy days like right before the holiday rushes. more

Until last night, I would never have believed that I would ever give a salon 5 stars. I'm picky, my hair can be difficult, and I've either had ok experiences or really good ones that left my wallet feeling way too light. Thank you, Mark On Madison and Mark for proving me wrong!But, while those things are nice, they really wouldn't make me give a 5 star review. The haircut itself and the person who did it are the 2 main factors. Actually, I shouldn't say hair cut - that's insulting. It's a hair STYLE. And a good one at that. The layers, the way it falls, everything. And, it passed the test of still looking good when it puffed up from all the rain and humidity this morning. Then there's Mark. I don't know about you, but I love chatting with the person who cuts my hair and getting to know them, letting them get to know me, because I want to like the person who cuts my hair. I hate it when the conversation is like pulling teeth and uncomfortable. But - on the other end of the spectrum, there is such a thing as too much conversation. Mark was the best balance - friendly, sweet and listens to your hair concerns. I can't wait to go back. more

Mark and his staff are just wonderful! They did hair and makeup for myself and 3 bridesmaids on my wedding day (4/20/12). It was such a great way to start my wedding day. They offer a brunch that was just delicious (homemade quiche!), fruit, juice, mimosas, yogurt, etc. Mark was great to work with from the start, and did everything to make sure our experiences was perfect. Everyone's hair and makeup looked amazing, the photos looked great, and everything lasted through the whole day and night. Mark was also very flexible. He was able to squeeze in a haircut for the ring bearer (who cried the whole time, but Mark was not fazed!), and styling the glower girl's hair, which was really awesome!The salon has a very relaxed and stylish atmosphere, and there was a nice area with couches for us to hang out and eat. And Mark's prices are very reasonable. Overall a great experience, and I'd highly recommend this salon for a bridal party, and also regular hair and makeup services! more

Awesome!!!! \r \r Great service for an unbeatable price!! I have been going to Mark for my hair extensions for the past year. I used to have very thick hair but after two pregnancies felt it was getting a little thin (so my main motivation was to add thickness....but adding a little extra length was a happy plus) he is professional and sweet which helps considering extensions can take a while to put in. That being said, he is quite fast while still genuinely caring that you end up with beautiful hair you'll love. Completely agree with an earlier post that he is very easy to get ahold of. I have personally referred my sister and a couple friends. more

My experience with Mark was great! I was a hair extension virgin and decided on them because my hair has become very unhealthy and decided to try something different. I chose Mark because of the reviews on CitySearch. I called him, explained my situation and he walked me step by step with choosing my hair and etc. He was very professional and even though I kept asking for him to cut and change my style he continued to show patience. Overall my hair turned out lovely, I was going for a very natural look and Mark gave me exactly that. I will definitely be returning for continued hair care! more

Let me start by saying Mark's talent is remarkable & he is very quick! After a bit of research, I came across this very page and decided to give him a chance and he blew my mind. Not only was he knowledgeable and very accommodating, he was able to recommend the hair company; I haven't had 1 problem out of my extensions yet (no shedding, no dryness, perfectly wavy). My experience with Mark left me in awe and he will be the ONLY beautician who does my extensions. I left the salon feeling gorgeous; he made me over. Not to mention that his prices are more than appropriate for the service you receive. He not only installs the extensions, he styles it to fit your face. I wish there were more stars to give... So I had my first appointment with Mark yesterday and LOVED it. I called that morning and he was able to see me that afternoon. My hair looks great! I had a Klix put in. Mark was punctual and had me in the chair as soon as I came in even though he was still dealing with a client that came in late. He was attentive and listened to what I wanted. I am an African-American woman and have a very thin grade of hair. He paid attention to the needs of my particular hair type and treated my hair accordingly. He was quick and efficient and my Klix extensions are tight, neat, and fabulous. I love that I didn't have to be at the salon all day. He was really patient with me when I couldn't decide what type of part I wanted and he wasn't offended or flustered when I changed my mind later. His work is great and affordable (especially to be located NYC) and the location is great for me. I will DEFINITELY be returning. more

If you want the BEST, look no further!!!! Mark IS AMAZING!!!! He seriously answered every question I had, and was so personable!!! The truth is....I have been going to a high end salon on Wooster street for a very long time, where my ""friend"" did my hair (with great lengths) for a reasonable price, and all the sudden told me I had to pay what every other customer had to pay ($1500) which was craaaazy to me, since I know the actual cost of the hair. So.....needless to say I was devastated!!! I cut all my hair off and decided to wear it short for a while....but started really missing my long hair and started looking for places to go......I came across ""Mark On Madison"" and the rest is history!!! It was truly the best experience and I will be back! Mark knows what he's doing and you will not believe the prices!!! I was in shock!!! You won't find anything even close in price for the quality hair your getting!!! So....if you got a bad haircut or just wanna know what it feels like to have long, beautiful, fabulous hair....this is the place! You will feel like a new, more glamorous version of yourself.....and this feeling is priceless! more
