when luscious first opened, I was in love with the idea of this place. and the name. I hoped for the best.\r
\r
however, I have eaten here about ten times and each time I have left feeling either regret, or neutrality, never delighted. and ""delighted"" is absolutely realistic in this neighborhood, from sumptuous Convivium just across the street, to the crabcakes and all the amazing clream cheeses at Bergen Bagel down on flatbush, and the sweet ladies serving and cooking at the corner diner just down the way on 5th. \r
\r
it is not too much to ask to have a truly pleasant staff. my absolute unverified understanding is that owners, a married couple, are behind the counter working all day as well as managing, and they are grumpy and smileless folks. this combined with the well-meaning but rather clueless younger staff = nervous energy abounds. \r
\r
the cupcakes are ridiculously fatty and rich, try chocolate room down the street for delicate, perfect and not going to give you a stomachache cupcakes.\r
\r
mac and cheese is either yummy or weirdly oversalted--it's completely hit or miss.\r
\r
the coffee's good, but the coffee is also good at other places nearby.\r
\r
in general, don't get your hopes up, and if you must, run in, and order to-go.
